A message from former PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra posted on her social media just now, a few hours after Anutin Charnvirakul succeeded her. Here is the translated text:

--- Throughout the history of the Pheu Thai Party, we have faced all kinds of situations, from times of joy to periods where we had to endure hardships together. However, one thing we have never abandoned is our hope for a better future, opportunities, and a better life for the people. From today forward, we will dedicate ourselves to our role as the opposition, scrutinizing the government's work and ensuring the parliamentary system moves forward along the path of democracy. We are not responsible for what will happen with this new government, but we will be responsible to the people with the unwavering determination and spirit of the Pheu Thai Party. Thank you for your support and encouragement. We know how much strength and patience it has taken to walk this journey with the Pheu Thai Party until today. We will get through this together and will return with hearts dedicated to the people.

  • I don't think this will be as toxic for farangs as it appears. His fanaticism during Covid was rethought and he decided he had misspoke. He had the right idea on the cannabis issue and I think he dese

Why is she posting anyway, after her disgraceful display that accelerated the Cambodian situation.

Sadly she wasn't on the flight to Dubai.

Will it matter. I believe after 4 months he has promised an election and will be busy fending off attempts to create a more people friendly Constitution.

What is his position on that these days?  I know he was in favor of recreational MJ at one point, but he seems to have flip flopped on that.

Apart from trying to get his senators off the hook, I believe Anuthin will try to ride the nationalist sentiment following the clashes with Cambodia.

PT are in the doghouse regarding this, and PP are disliked by some middle of the road Thais for some comments that were seen as anti- military, so Bhumjaithai really have an opportunity to gain seats in an election if held soon.

Still, if PP and PT can demonstrate corruption by Bhumjaithai, the party could suffer losses in a few months.

Sadly I don't think her father will ever give up politics, he seems to prefer it to playing with his grandchildren. So his daughter, who seems to enjoy  politics herself, will remain on the scene.

It's all very well being stinking rich but these folks want power and acclaim too, that's the drugs. Reminds me of someone across the Atlantic!

After they have all the money in the world, they need something else to live for and get them out of bed in the morning.  Power is the next thing on the list for many of them.

No, he is not, and he can´t be as both tourists and expats contribute to the money they call tourism and belongs to the tourist sector.

Possible crackdown on things that are not in order and after the current laws. Almost everyone does that. However, there will always be some options left as they bring in to much money to the top.

I think this peaceful transition of power will be good for Thailand. Anutin appointment will avoid a power vacuum and allow the parliament to function and hopefully passed the budget which will start on 1st October and others stimulus packages before the election to boost the economy. He now has the majority in Parliamen and should help him get through most bills. The days of street protests and coups could perhaps be over.

I agree with everything except the days of coups and protest should be over. That will never happen in Thailand as there are always large faction who disagree, and one way of showing that connected to social norms and culture here are violent protests. When they get to violent and aggressive the military has to step in.

Nevertheless high on his agenda is a law forcing all foreigners to wear face masks in public places, he wants to protect the Thai folks from disease.

That was a very stupid comment. Take a coffee and re-think.

Yeah, never anything good here, right? Not according to you anyway, as you positioned yourself as a serial complainer.

I'd expect a pontificator like you have a stict sodium-less diet.

Should the dirty smelly farangs be worried about visa cancellations and/or deportation?

Why derailing? Look at your stupid comment instead.

So where does he stand on revising tax legislation, particularly inclusion of remitted income in PIT?

You see? I wasn't derailing anything. Neither was I commenting adequately on your drivel, so abundant that I won't suggest you reread it.

Exactly worst possible choice. The greatest foreigner hater Thai politics ever had, as we saw in the pandemic.

Exactly! You made the choice not to comment, as you hopefully understand how silly it sounded. If you don´t, there will sadly be no help.

Oh no, not another Chinese Thai PM.
They are never good for farang.

He did have a point, I saw mostly white guys not wearing masks, even refused them being handed out by govt ministers.

Farang generally don’t shower as often as locals.

You ridicule yourself underlining your ability to grasp an obvious hyperbole. Unless you play a Teutonic dork role, as your nickname would indicate.

Ok, so now it´s a hyperbole. If so, why did you wait 3 comments to clarify that? Ok, if we going to pick on the nicknames. Might you second name be Hugin or Munin? 😂

Now go put a mask on, so Anutin won´t arrest you. 😂 Who knows, maybe it makes you quiet too. In that case it´s a win win.

Just joking - I consider him a good pick.  Wife likes him.  And he's not a Shin.

He’s just another member of the elite class originally part of Thaksins Govt/Party (prior to his 5 year ban) and aligned with the infamous Newin.

Weed users would be happy though I guess 🙂

Please explain this word salad ... I am a mere Boomer Skippy and I don't know what you're talking about?

Oh what a shame, I was hoping we'd have another Coup.....🤣

Anutin’s win is a significant setback for the Shinawatra family, renowned for its enduring influence in Thai politics, reported Reuters.

While I don't like Anutin or his mannerisms towards certain groups of people, I am glad the Shinawtra's are out of the picture, hopefully for good.

Thaksin may as well stay in Dubai with his sister, and Paetongtarn may join them anytime she wishes to see them.

Lets see if Anutin with the backing of the opposition party can make some progress for the people and not the elites.

And you do not understand, it is not the cannabis itself that’s the problem, but hopefully we can go back to before covid area where cigarettes started to disappear from the public eye and disturbance.

The problem with Thai politics isn’t the Shins and it won’t be solved by Anutin 🙂
