How do you think that the water gets to the tank...it's mains supplied.

Certainly could have been from a well on the property .

Not necessarily mains.

I bought a water tester and compared the tap water to that coming out of our quite expensive pure filter system. The tap water was slightly better rated!

I keep meaning to do that.

Our village water is a thin mud slurry which we clean up, filter and soften.......is it potable though?

SWMBO buys bottled water in bulk but it isn't cheep.

This morning I woke up in my Airbnb small apartment and going out I never had enough water for my coffee ..I need my coffee

So I took the water from the kitchen tap and booked it in the jug

I had my coffee .

Now I'm thinking I shouldn't leave the Condo in case I get sick.

Has anyone got any stomach disease from drinking the water here ?

I only had one cup of hot coffee

I'm feeling a little sick come to think of it , I think the water may have parasites in it , I think they are now swimming around in my belly

Has anyone else drank the tap water ,I did boil it ,is there any scientists on here who can answer please !!

Looks like I may have to head to the medical centre for  a blood test

What symptoms could I have ?

Im sure you'll think of something to add drama to your sad existence.

You booked it. Boiling kills all parasites but not heavy metals.

Or dissolved solids. Kidney stones are no fun.

Enjoy GG.

A water-related, slightly off-topic story 🙂

When I first moved to work in Yangon, I lived in an old tenement building in Latha Township.  The shower was just a rusty old pipe from where dirty, smelly cold water trickled out.  I hated having showers!

One day, after a particularly foul shower, I asked my Burmese neighbour where the shower water came from.  "It comes from the river at the end of our road" was his reply.

Great!  I have been showering in dirty river water.....

Then I had another thought.  "And where does my toilet pee and poop empty into?" I asked.  "Why, it all empties into the river at the end of our road" was his reply!!!

You moved out of the hotel that had the maid  tuck you in at night service ?

I've always used bottled water for coffee. At our place, we have one of those four-cylinder stupidly expensive filter systems that works alongside the tap water in a separate stream. I tried using the filtered water in the kettle for tea but it gave me an upset stomach. So that was that. Wife still uses it, but now I pour it out of the kettle and refill with bottled water when I want some tea. I'd never drink the tap water here (Bangkok), despite the assurances. And the filtered water we use only for cooking vegetables, otherwise. I've brushed my teeth with tap water on occasion, but usually it's bottled water.

I doubt you'd be sick though if you boiled it before using it for coffee. Might give your gut a bit of a rumble like it did to mine. Maybe it just takes persistence to get used to taking the filtered water. It's what many Thais drink (from the refillable machine on the sois that filters the mains).

I've had norovirus from contaminated food in Bangkok. That was very rough. But got over it in a few days.

Even Bangkok - the capital - doesn't have a Sanitary Sewer system like most developed countries. AFAIK, most places have a septic tank, though you wouldn't know it by the smell of some storm sewers. I wonder how many cities in this part of Asia have Sanitary Sewer systems. Anyone know? I guess Singapore?

Hey Georgie~! Did you 5h1t your pants yet? No comment long time. Did the water do you over?

Why you did not have the idea to cook that water before 5 minutes you made it into the coffee machine ?

Apparently the water from the treatment plants is good quality.......the degradation/contamination occurs during its journey through the pipework to your tap.

Doesn't it come from the lake in an open stream?

I remember years ago the company that supplied plastic bottled water to the cheaper hotels in Pattaya was filmed filling them by hand from a tap in the back yard....555

Try using a water filter in your shower and see how fast they are done hehe. Gives you a good idea.

I am sure most get scared to even shower if they got lab results. Most skin issues are a result of it too.

Never had a problem, brush my teeth with tap water and don't have skin issues, after decades.

u full o shiit

The biggest worry with unfiltered tap water in Thailand is the possibility of toxic substances such as heavy metals, pesticides, and industrial waste, not the possibility of bacteria and parasites.  I think those are the main reasons it's not recommended to drink it.  Out of an abundance of caution I don't brush my teeth with it either, although that is probably ok.

In July papa bought one of those

charcoal-filter-equipped pitchers.

~  2-liter I guess.

Fill w/ tap water & stow in fridge.

Decant into one of those stainless steel

tumblers for consumption.

I notice scale build up on the inside of the SS.

Indicating minerals in the water.

We need minerals.

Minerals are removed under reverse-osmosis,

as in bottled water.

Water bottles leach PBA

into the water.

PBA acts as a hormone,

similar to estrogen.

Man-boobs anyone.?

Even for me morning tea it's only bottled water. Why play with your health even if you have the usual  comments "I drink from tap and ok".

Yes we need specific minerals to be healthy, but in the correct quantities - not too little and not too much.

As for other minerals, anyone fancy mercury or lead minerals in their drinking water?

underwhelming.

I do it all the time in hotels I make sure the water is boiled well before I use it though . Never had any issues and you shouldnt either if you boiled it it killed any bacteria

Especially in a hotel I don't like to use the tap water even for  making coffee. They have a large storage system that could have any critter drowned or swimming in there. Prefer to make use of the free bottles, and go get a large bottle from a 7-11.

No. You're wildly overreacting.

I drank tap water in Bangkok for over a year without incident.

Drinking tap water used to be common before the current trend of everyone carrying bottled water with them and for use at home.

Further, you boiled the water in your tea kettle, so, what's your worry. I didn't even do that.

There could be more minerals in the tap water than from filtered water. The water as it comes from the processing plant is entirely clean and safe, although there apparently is some concern about leaks in the distribution lines that bring it under the street into your home.

Your gut bacteria will diversify and strengthen from exposure you've had from local foods, drinks and even water.

You had a single exposure, get over it. Staying home and not opening the door? Come on. Don't weaken yourself physically and mentally by such hysteria.

Currently my building has a coin filtration machine at 1 baht per liter, so I do that.

But occasional tap water isn't any issue.

Acclimate.

We have been using boiled tap water to make coffee in the office for many years.

A few months a friend came and he drank a cup of coffee and three days later he passed away.

The water is safe if boiled for a few minutes, but sometimes it can be sandy or rusty after repairing the pipes. Just let the water run for a few minutes.

Having said that I always use filtered water at home and always drink bottled water when I am out.

Btw, don't worry, my friend died of a pre-conditioned heart disease, not the water.

You boiled the Water, so whats your Problem:clap2:
