Leave the poor old geezer alone. He's got to be 80 plus now. The King should issue a pardon...put that coup behind themselves & move forward.

If you dont know his age why comment? He is 76.

I'm not a clairvoyant, but I don't believe we'll see him 12 months behind bars.

Vigil day 4

Keep the faith

Thaksin the great will be released soon on a

pardon, amnesty, house arrest, etc

We the supporters will take it as a win in any way shape or form.
Hang in there beloved leader!

Bu WAHHH. I cannot keep up with my brother's birthdays much less Thaksin's....The guy is pushing 80...I think I said that.

My point was that I wish the King would pardon him, much liked Ford pardoned Nixon.

Just put all the drama of the past in the rearview mirror.

Heaven knows they have TONS of corruption to face going forward.

whatever strings he can pull to to gain special treatment he will pull them.

house arrest to follow

I have to wonder why Thaksin returned to a jail term? Does he think that when he is out he will be able to go back to running the country from the back?

Or does he realize he doesn't have a lot of time to play with his grandchildren?

Yes he was already out of the country. It was his choice to return. He made a calculated bet. I’m sure as always it will payout well for him.

you must have a warp sense, as if spending anytime in prison will payout well !!!      the convicted felon should stay there  if its paying out well??   there are more charges coming

Probably a mute point for teflon Tony, He will likely be out on house arrest with an ankle tag within a week or so.

More to the point, As a convicted felon is he not allowed into politics any more?

Thank God for that. Trouble is, indirectly he will always be involved in politics. It's his drug. He wants power, Money to him is now meaningless.

We should have a formal poll.  Anyway, I give it less than 3 month before he's serving the rest of his sentence at home and not even required to wear an ankle monitor.

The most important thing is to keep him locked up until well after the upcoming election, so that he won't be able to meddle with the election and coalition talks.

Maximum 3 month's and then "a general pardon ".....not specially for him ..... but for general light punished  inmates .... "only " he could benefit also from it ...😉

SO Avoiding nasty comments from" Tony  haters "

Thaksin Shinawatra's prison sentence is raising eyebrows and discussions across the nation. As the Supreme Court recently handed him a one-year (12-month) sentence, speculation swirls around what this actually means in terms of time served. Akarakit Worarojcharoendet, known to the public as "Benz Racing," took to social media on 10th September to break down the Department of Corrections' guidelines, revealing that Thaksin might serve around nine months behind bars.

Thaksin entered the correctional system on 9th September, beginning his sentence at a medium classification, one of six levels within the prison system. The guidelines for prisoners, explained by Benz Racing, outline a progression system where good behaviour and participation in activities can lead to advancement through the ranks. After three months, inmates may progress from medium to "good," with additional promotions possible every four months—April, August, and December.

For sentences not exceeding three years, there are specified times for class promotion reviews. If the requirements are satisfied, Thaksin might ask for a move from "good" to "very good" by April 2026. However, a few potential scenarios might affect Thaksin's time in custody. Firstly, he might spend up to 8–9 months in jail, aligning with guidelines for inmates who serve two-thirds of their sentences before they can apply for parole.

In addition, the Department of Corrections outlines criteria for early release or home detention through Electronic Monitoring (EM), especially for older prisoners aged 70 and above or those with serious health conditions. Thaksin, aged 76, falls into this category and may apply for such privileges after serving six months, potentially leading to an early release by March 2026.

Other factors that might accelerate Thaksin's release include exemplary conduct, active participation in educational or vocational training, or earning commendations for exceptional service during his time in prison. If these conditions are satisfied, Thaksin might even qualify for electronic house arrest earlier than anticipated.

Key Takeaways

  • Thaksin Shinawatra could potentially serve only 8–9 months of his 12-month sentence.
  • Due to his age, he might qualify for early or special release after six months.
  • Behaviour and participation in prison activities could further reduce the time served.

Yeah I read the 'Benz Racing' comments and 'system of good boy levels' etc.

However, in my understanding none of that has even been mentioned before, so is it fact?

On the other hand seems to me that the supreme court decision is solidly 'one year in prison'.

He is 76. Whilst I don't buy into the whole " I just want to be with my Grandchildren" bit, I will accept that at that age he wants to be at home and not living in exile. His active political life is over.

If you look at it objectively, as he was faced with either spending the rest of his life in exile in Dubai or spending it at home, then perhaps serving 1 year ( probably significantly reduced by the existing rules) may have looked like a good deal. He will be comfortable enough, come on, no one really believes he is going to be sleeping on the floor with 30 others, with a bucket in the corner as a toilet. And of course there is the very real possibility of release to home arrest in the relatively near future.

With the removal of the (very real) threat of long term imprisonment when the Lese Majestie case was dismissed then he may well see a few months of relatively comfortable inconvenience as a reasonable price to pay for "wiping the slate clean". His enemies save face (never underestimate that) by having him in prison, but he will be out soon enough.

Of course various "political activists" with brutal haircuts (where do they get them, does the council parks and gardens do them?) will continue to press for life imprisonment because his name begins with a "T", but an end to the game is in sight; and I suspect he is tired of the game.

So how long will he serve? I would be rather surprised if he is still in jail by the New Year.

Nice scenario i will grant you that !! but would you take the chance !!   1 yrs with early release possible,  but the real chance of these  "political activists" ( and dont forget it was one of them which got him here in the first place )  doing it again is a too real possibility in fact  they are bringing more charges,   i think it was a bad gamble on his part, should have run when he had the chance, but  i dont think we will ever know !!

Give the Devil his due.

Thaksin's gov't put the 30-baht scheme into practice in 2002 and it has been functioning ever since.

I'm not questioning your background information, but Thaksin does deserve credit for implementing what has become a successful public healthcare scheme.
