Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is adapting well to life in prison and might soon find himself in an educational role, teaching English to fellow inmates. Currently completing a five-day quarantine, Thaksin has embraced a simple morning routine of enjoying two boiled eggs and coffee, as reported by Pol. Lt. Col. Shane Kanjanapach, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Corrections.

Thaksin's mental state remains stable, with no requests for special treatment, showcasing his readiness to integrate into the prison environment. Once his quarantine concludes, he will be assessed by a committee to evaluate his skills. This assessment could see him participate in a programme aimed at utilising inmates' abilities to benefit the prison community.

Given Thaksin’s proficiency in languages, he is a strong candidate for teaching English, aligning with the prison's focus on rehabilitation. Such programmes are designed to make imprisonment a constructive period, where inmates can acquire valuable skills, fostering an atmosphere of learning and growth.

Winyat Chartmontree, Thaksin’s lawyer, confirmed intentions to meet his client soon, following the quarantine phase. Visits have been on hold, but Chartmontree plans to see Thaksin on Monday, 15 September. After quarantine, the prison will allow visits from up to ten family members, helping Thaksin maintain vital personal connections.

The possibility of Thaksin teaching English highlights a shift from his previous political life to a more community-driven role. It reflects the prison system's dedication to reform, offering prisoners valuable educational opportunities.

Such initiatives not only aid inmates in developing new skills but also help in their future reintegration into society. Thaksin’s potential involvement in education could serve as a model for similar programmes, emphasising the transformative power of learning.

As Thaksin embraces this new chapter, his journey will be closely observed, with interest in how his participation might influence both his own path and the wider prison community. In an often challenging environment, these programmes offer a hopeful avenue toward personal and communal development.

But I'm hoping he doesn't get a teacher's salary and I'm hoping there's no over the top accolades for his 'work'.

Yeah after being given a license to establish a telecoms company (from a very nasty / scaly army general who tried (with 2 other scaly generals) to take over the country. Plus at that time it was the law of the land that all telecommunications had to be controlled / operated by the state.

Plus when an offer to buy his telecoms companies (which has operated as monopolies for many  years was received he / his lawyers quick smart changed several laws so that he could sell and avoid taxation.

The result 'a billionaire'. (Not really a self-made billionaire.)

Do you mean released early because he (untrained) conducted some English lessons?

They just need to find some excuse, and they have already used the medical angle.  Don't think they can pull that one off again but TiT, so you never know.

" they have already used the medical angle.  Don't think they can pull that one off again but TiT, so you never know."

And they got caught, and typical of thaksin's game, others got entrapped in his game (doctors) and have been punished.

Same with the loans he organized with some force for the Myanmar gov't to borrow very big money from several Thai banks, so that the Myanmar gov't could purchase a lot of expensive equipment from thaksin's companies.

They got caught, thaksin was charged as were the senior execs of the Thai banks.

The Thai bank seniors went to jail and served long sentences, thaksin wriggled out of it.

English?

How about teaching them Business Studies.

When he's finished there, can he come to AN forum?

We've got a few members that could do with improving their English speaking skills.

Do you mean how to morph from a policeman to a billionaire in three easy steps?

1.  Get "given" a monopolised 20+ year contract from some contacts in the government at the time

2. Pretend you will BTO everything as agreed

3. Become PM and shaft everyone by selling it to a crew in Singapore

I think that is how it mostly went down, happy to be corrected.

Am really confused how they can make a story about what Thaksin will be doing in prison when Thaksin is in quarantine until Monday and noone has spoken to him or seen him since his detainment. Speculation at best.

What is worrying is the criminals learning English only to be released to begin their life of crime against foreigners haha... Most criminals released from prison commit more crimes in their futures rather than lead a crime free life after their release.

Two boiled eggs... I bet they came ready peeled with a pinch of salt.

Wouldn't want him over-doing-it in his condition.

I see you envy him, don't you?

Being rich and live in a prison?

What is it?

I have met a few Thais who were taught English by a Thai Teacher. It can be real hard going to understand them sometimes.

He had already escaped to Dubailand. Why didn't he stay there?

Why come back knowing he would go to jail?

A slight odour to all of this, possibly a stench!
