Pattaya has experienced a significant boost in tourism, with officials reporting that over 18 million tourists visited the city between January and August this year. Mayor Poramet Ngampichet revealed that 11.38 million of these visitors were domestic travellers, marking a substantial year-on-year increase of 11.79%. This rise in numbers is credited to enhanced safety measures and a series of major events, reinforcing Pattaya’s reputation as a desirable destination.

The sharp increase in tourism follows efforts by local leaders to present Pattaya as a safe and appealing city. Authorities have focused on improving infrastructure and safety protocols to gain traveler confidence. Although the return of international tourists, particularly from China, is yet to reach pre-pandemic figures, there's optimism for the remaining months of the year due to a packed schedule of high-profile events.

Major events slated for the coming months include the Pattaya International Fireworks Festival, the Pattaya Jazz Festival, and extravagant New Year celebrations. Additionally, cultural and culinary festivals will highlight regional Thai cuisine, further enticing visitors. These events are expected to draw both local and international crowds, enhancing the city’s tourism prospects.

To further reassure tourists, Pattaya has implemented advanced safety measures, including AI-linked CCTV systems and real-time local police monitoring. The city also introduced the Pattaya Connect mobile app, providing real-time traffic updates and local news, designed to keep both residents and tourists informed.

Despite ongoing issues with flooding during heavy rain, Mayor Poramet assured that these occurrences are manageable and are quickly resolved, typically within two hours. He emphasized that such challenges do not hinder the overall visitor experience, and the city remains committed to addressing infrastructure concerns efficiently.

As Pattaya gears up for its busiest time of the year, expectations for continued growth in tourism are high. The city aims to sustain momentum into 2026, with enhanced safety and a robust lineup of events serving as key drivers of success.

Key Takeaways

  • Tourist numbers in Pattaya have risen significantly due to safety efforts and events.
  • The city has launched advanced safety and communication systems to reassure visitors.
  • Upcoming festivals and events are set to attract more domestic and international tourists.

Does that mean visible police?  Two hours driving round town on Tuesday revealed a total of none.

The festivals attract domestic tourism for a weekend or so.

Hardly any overseas tourist plan their stay for these festivals.

More fights going on there than a muay Thai gym !! 🙄🙈

Yes, true.

But I expect it still puts some money in the coffers.

We might be doing better than Bangkok, where buildings crumble into dust or tumble into the subway system.

The "rise" in Patts tourism numbers was domestic - note the OP lack of coparison to last year's numbers, except for an 11 pc hike in local visitors. Overall, incoming is down and won't return.

I've been in TH 30 years and this year is the first when numerous old friends elsewhere around the world have more than once enquired after my safety. Cambo, sinkholes, earthquake etc, none of them slightly dangerous; but now BKK and TH are "on the radar" for what passes for news organisations these days, and potential visitors notice these things.

How about forming a Bacon Sandwich Club to fend them off?

and i would guess many bkk  and other out of town thais drive down for the day  or evening and then drive back home.

Oh come on it is about safety?  What a laugh it is about massage, Walking street and Soi 6.  I walked Soi 6 yesterday at 8pm.  Must be 400 to 500 hundred girls working just on that Soi ready for happy time and so many man walking.

A good buisness to set up Flog Burkhas and head Scarfs as there is a possibility of an influx of Muslims.

So very true henryford, and some Russian women even jumping out of windows to their death while stoned.

Safety what a load of rubbish. It's the same being watch your back late at night.  RTP go to bed or home by 3pm. As  for." Events", what Events is this headline referring to?

British and US visitor numbers are up for 2025 and both will likely reach or come close to the record numbers for 2019.   Pattaya, along with Phuket and Bangkok, has been on Mastercard's top 20 visited cities in the world list.  Pattaya has been attracting at least 15 million visitors a year, domestic and foreign, for some time now.  This year Pattaya is easily surpassing that 15 million mark if it is already at 18 million.

Lots of Bangkokians have Pattaya getaway condos, with a number of projects, such at Lumpini's Wong Amat, Naklua, Park Beach, and Seaview,  Sansiri's The Base and Baan Plai Haad, and SC Asset's Centric Sea, among others, originally marketing to Bangkokians.  Bangkokians also own condos at a number of older projects scattered around town, especially in Wong Amat.

What's it like these days? I haven't been in 5 or 6 years, so it must have changed a lot. Last time I was there it felt like it was full on Indian nightclubs and stuff, quite a change from before!

Don't hotels have to report who stays in them? That's one way to keep track I think.

My usual route is down Kao Talo where it can take four or five red lights before you even get on Suk.  Tai was supposed to be much easier after illegally parked cars/bikes were removed, but that, like the helmet enforcement, seems to have died the death of all such measures.  The stretch from Suk to 3rd Road is slow as drivers attempt U-turns without being able to reach full lock thus requiring lots of back & forths.  Negotiating past Soi Bukao entrance is slow as tuk-tuks presume they have right of way and selfishly block all traffic till they emerge.  2nd Road is slow even since the completion of the 3 year road works.  There are two pedestrian crossings designed to allow snails to inch their way over which creates a log-jam.  Coming back, since the erection of the new, multi-million baht, pointless signage was finished, Beach road narrows to 2 lanes causing another jam if the lights are on red at 2nd Road.

So the short answer to your question is; nothing has changed; still no police presence; roads are peopled by selfish morons who cannot drive.
