A violent altercation occurred near Pattaya’s Walking Street on the evening of 8 October 2025, when an American tourist was allegedly attacked by a Thai motorcyclist. The incident left the visitor unconscious on the street and prompted a police investigation into the suspect’s identity.

The victim, identified as Mr. Quincy Nguyen Tran, 50, was on holiday in Pattaya with his family. After dining at a restaurant on Pattaya South Beach Road, the group was walking back to their accommodation. As they approached a Middle Eastern restaurant on Soi 16, just off Walking Street, a Thai man riding a motorcycle reportedly swerved too close and collided with Mr. Tran from behind.

In an attempt to record the incident for insurance and possible damages, Mr. Tran began filming and requested law enforcement assistance. The motorcyclist allegedly reacted aggressively, slapping the phone from Mr. Tran’s hand before punching him, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious. The suspect then fled the scene on his motorcycle before officers could arrive.

After treatment the matter was officially reported to Pattaya City Police Station at 03:35, on 9 October 2025. Lieutenant Pakkorn Prakobnan, who received the complaint, confirmed that police are now reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas to identify and locate the assailant. Authorities have not yet released a description of the suspect or his motorcycle.

Investigators are expected to analyse surveillance footage and locate and interview witnesses. Once the suspect is identified, he will face charges of assault and property damage. Mr. Tran is said to be recovering from his injuries, and his family has cooperated fully with police inquiries.

Getting well hammered!

The related stories have French and Japanese victims.  This one sounds Vietnamese?

And what became of the phone?  Maybe can ID the attacker or license plate from the pre-assault vid.

For a bar expert you seem to be clueless. The name of the street in Pattaya is Walking Street.

He has a hard time comprehending the written word, and of course the prejudice against Americans was bound to come out. The driver swerved and ran into the tourist, then he records evidence and gets punched, which is assault along with hitting with a motor vehicle and running from the incident. We rarely hear the follow up on these incidents but it would be jail and a fine anywhere else.

The headline said he is American.

And the first thing he wanted to do was sue the Thai further indicates American.

They can’t help themselves over there, it is always about the money which he was never going to get in Thailand.

He should have just apologized for walking on the road.

From what I have read there seems to be an assumed consensus that the motorcyclist was Thai.

Why?

Funny how in over 18 years of living here I only come across the occasional minor squabble, whereas when I lived in a small town in the UK, it was like being in the wild west. With the exception of Tokyo, I feel much safer in Pattaya than most places I've lived.

The clues are in the wording...

Actually an American with a Vietnamese name. You know, people who were born in or became citizens of America, from all other countries.

Tell @angryguy that. I'm not the sort of person who has issues with names and nationalities and the like.

Seems most altercations occur in the early hours.  Stay off the streets of Pattaya between 0000 and 0400 and you'll avoid most of the problems.
