They are both not foreigners ?

I replied to precisely what you wrote.

Just in case you don't understand, both are foreigners; one is a farang one  is not - that means there is a difference - one is white one is not.

to the title ...

... in a word, 'embarrassing'.   Just returned from a few hours at Hua Hin, and just as I thought to myself, 'damn, not one farang on a scooter wearing a helmet', then one passed in front of me wearing 🤬:cheesy:

With that, yea, embarrassing, especially the way the Thai-bashers ... the haters, talk about the locals, helmets and not wearing them.   Per capita, and farangs win that stupidity contest hands down.

Also locally, and when O&A at tourist areas.

I was a little shocked and upset  to hear of Pattaya socialite Barry Kenyon being killed by a alleged farang on a motorbike whilst waiting on a pedestrian island to cross a road in Jomtien

I must say I noticed last time in Pattaya   a "free for all " from young farangs going berserk on motorbikes particularly in Jomtien where they would go bat out of hell with no helmets on

No police around,no one cares it ends up in deaths , innocent people

And I have no idea if it's the same type of policing in other parts of tourist areas eg Phuket

But I can assure you more people will lose their lives as SELFISH tourist farangs think their is no law

I was going to say ok I agree let's not make it like Australia, but Australia is just as bad where they allow people to ride fast push bikes on pedestrian footpaths !!!!!

The police particularly the tourist police need to clamp down,it appears they have lowered their obligations

More deaths caused by farangs this high season no doubt as the young ones affected by alcohol will speed madly

And it's m farangs from EVERY country doing this ...

Watch as they speed in Jomtien, loud motorbikes ,"look at me ,look at me !!!

An opinion, where are the facts and numbers of of "farangs" killing people?

Well  84.....I think I would stop for a man that age and show respect

How can you know the age of someone wanting to cross the road?

I stop for all of them, after checking rear mirror especially for motorbikes on the left, and putting on hazards.

If I deem it not safe, I will beep my horn to warn the crosser.

Unlikely, but post a link so we can see it

It was widely reported he was on/had reached the central median.

Strange that, reaches the central median and somehow gets hit by out of control motorbike, more to that story most likely

Unfortunately news reporting here can be very inconsistent with the facts. The first report I read said he was standing on the central reservation, the next one I read said he hadn't reached it and was still on the road. I think the latter is more plausible.

Either way it's a timely reminder, as if any resident pedestrian needed it, to exercise extreme caution and maintain maximum vigilence crossing any road here whether it's on a designated crossing or not. Don't expect the situation to ever improve, the authorities don't care.

next time you wish to educate me check your facts and compare the nomber of motor bike riders who die on the road in Australia,UK,France Germany Spain Ireland or any other european countrys.

Also I thought the bike rider was a Bangladeshi, which is not actually falang.

He wasn't using a crossing.  His being a long time expat should have known better.

Being a long time expat he would have known using a crosswalk would make no difference at all and at his age maybe couldnt walk that far

That's nonsense about "using a crossing making no difference at all" and there has not been any suggestion whatsoever that he was mobility impaired.   What do you mean by "that far", how far way from safer crossing was he?

If its nonsense try today, go to a marked crosswalk and step out straight away or wait for them to stop do they, cross not at a marked crosswalk and you know you have to wait for breaks in traffic

That and the fact that the little green man light at crossings does not seem to reflect the absence of traffic passing there. The Thrappaya and Threppasit junction does  have road crossing markings and pedestrian lights but I am inclined to believe Barry was North,  closer to the bus station/Foodmart entrance. Correct me please if I am wrong.

There's some young farang goof doing wheelies on an electric dirt bike riding around Pattaya. Not just popping wheelies but riding long distances with the front knobby high up in the air.

Hopefully he either has an accident not involving others, or the police persuade him not to be doing this.

Yeah, they know how to ride. Did the same when I was young . What's the point of your comment?

So visited for 3 days pattaya South and Jomtien beach area .Motorbikes for rent all over the place. Now I know the law regarding licences and I did a little survey.I asked at 5 shops about renting a bike and was told only required passport by 4 . When I asked about licence was told if you have driving licence in your own country that's ok. Bunch of liars. Chances of being stopped and fined are 90% in Pattaya and if no Thai or international licence it's a 2000 baht fine .So why do the police allow these shops to do business. ? Because they make money from fines. A nice earner cartel for both sides .

If you have a foreign licence, that is in English, it is acceptable. If not must have an IDP, which is basically an English translation of your foreign licence.  This only applies to a tourist.

I think after three months you need to get a Thai licence to remain legal, but not too many genuine tourists stay for three months.

Used my Aussie licence without a problem in both Pattaya and Phuket when on holiday.

Now have two Thai licences, car and motorbike.

In tourist areas, they require IDP so?

Your own licence from home country is not acceptable.certainmy in places I have been. Was caught in Rayong onetime . But I get how each police in each province is a law unto themselves

Only if the licence is not in English.

I was thinking of the young Brit goof who killed the Thai lady whilst doing the same thing.

No helmet, so if he went over backwards someone would have to hose his brains off the pavement and into the gutter.  Rats gotta eat too.

Everyone knows how to ride - until they don't.  Sadly it's usually some innocent person who pays the price for it.

Yes, not my biggest concern, some innocent pedestrian moreso.
