OK - Then WHAT News Source Can Everyone Trust?

Featured Replies

I am sick and tired of people throwing poop when they see a news source like Fox (biggest liars) or MSNBC (close 2nd for being liars).

Can anyone name a trusted news source that garners credibility from a majority of sensible people?

Also common sense goes a long way, something this forum really lacks as well

GB News refreshing but shouty🤔

I find that the one needs to watch "critically" - be aware of the sources political orientation and apply that awareness to the content.

Political bias is inevitable across all sources, even in the publicly funded broadcast ones which have a "charter requirement" to be unbiased such as, in the UK, the BBC and Channel 4.

As far a US media is concerned perhaps the bias is more obvious and built in to the channel, the ownership and funding model lends itself to that. That said, I find both Jen Paksi and Nicole Wallace on MSNBC, despite their obvious placing on the political spectrum, both produce incisive and thoughtful commentary. Lying, unless you define that as saying something with which you disagree, is rather reserved for the subjects of their discussions.

Im sure that Fox boasts similar content, reflecting their political perspective.

When reading/watching have to hand a saucer of salt, from which to take the occasional pinch! It is though, up to the consumer.

Here's my MO. Read an article in the news or watch a news channel, find the same topic from several different sources of an opposing political standpoint, then go and find the actual transcript of what was said or watch the speech, or watch the recorded video.

And here's a novel idea - then decide independently what you think was most probably closest to what actually happened.

All news sources push their own propagandised agenda and promote their version of the truth. Podcasts are way more informative than the news ever was, but still you have to be aware of the politicisation and bias.

When you see significant rioting and violence on a podcast, and fail to find mention of it in any major newspaper (not even on page 42), you know you're being manipulated. :coffee1:

AN. Everything is fake news  so you can deduct the truth.

Its not even about what they cover most of the time thats so egregious. Its about all the crap they COVERED UP during the Biden admin. Failing to report news is worse than the fake news so common today

There's bias in both Fox and MSM. Thing is MSM is mainly left biased and is 90%+ of the total news coverage. It also seems to represent 100% of international articles on this forum.

This we already know. I'm looking for a source we can all agree is generally unbiased. Otherwise it's all just blather, a waste of time.

Most expats have a vested interest in US politics, because it directly impacts their lives, currency values, stock markets, world economies etc. Living off investments, share trading, crypto, exchange rates etc, can all change in a heartbeat every time Trump says/does something stupid. That's why we argue about US politics, it directly effects us.

What I learned is that both fake news and real news exist in all the major outlets.

The fake news tends to be the one that is repeated over and over, and they are shouting it out with a loudspeaker.

The real news tends to be more quiet, discreet, maybe hidden in the back pages. So you need to search hard for it.

Since you obviously know about it and frequently refer to it, it can hardly have been said to have been covered up now can it?

I recommend a news aggregator like Feedly. I get news from 50 sources globally, from Breitbart to Yahoo, and can read the same stories from different sources.

I also recommend fact checking sites like Snopes, factcheck.org, AP Factcheck and Reuters Factcheck.

News Nation goes out of their way to be as unbiased as possible.

Are the UK media keeping their citizens informed about the current invasion? If leftists are in power there could be civil war going on and you wouldnt be hearing about it in the news

No, and if they do make such a claim then they’ve been suckered.

You literally know nothing about the UK other than what your right-wing, nut-job 'news' is wanting you to believe. You literally are the poster child for right-wing propoganda and really shouldn't comment on the UK when you have such little informed information.

I think the problem with a lot of people is they struggle between actual news (based on facts) and opinion. Fox doesn't even call itself news any more but rather an 'entertainment media' but you wouldn't have guessed that from the more rabid posters here on AN who think it's the word of God.

Personally I like The Economist for it's in-depth analysis of current events. It is usually very factual and honest but also clearly delineates between news and opinion. Otherwise I still read the BBC most mornings for a summary of the world-wide and UK news.

I don't believe theirs a single news source that doesn't put a spin on things.
