4 cities Id be happy to skip

I would agree about Lampang. I spent five days there last year (had to, family commitment). That was about 4 days and 23 hours too long.

I am not too found of Chang.

For the uneducated and uncool, I'm referring to Chiang Mai, of course.

The city itself suxx.

But you get out into the countryside and it's nice, esp on a bicycle.

Phits be the worst. Really ugly. Sub standard food. Reminded me of Wollongong but no beach. Yet Sukhothai is fairly nice.

Really, from 7/11............

Pai

Pai can suck it.

Too many dreadlocks, too many unkempt beards, girls who won't wash their vaggez, armpit hair, too many new age cults and druggie weirdos.

Hate that place now.

The trees and mountains are nice though.

Trat used to be interesting, great jumping off point for Ko Chang, but Convid nein teen killed all the fun.

Reckon most Thai cities are pretty featureless, but the likes of PLok and Hat Yai are especially bland. All traffic lights with little soul. Don’t get why people knock Chiang Mai though. Probably mongerers with no class so can be ignored 😂. At least it has character with an old town and mountain. But CM’s surrounds is what makes it; great riding.

The guy yelling Thai bashing. Give it a rest. Thais could talk about how boring the cities might be in my country and I wouldn’t see it as bashing. There’s being objective and there’s being sh,itty. Grow up yeah.

Chumporn. Not only boring but quite ugly too, apart from the seaside. It does not feel like it has a soul. And the building are ugly too.

Need an optician? Try Top Charoen

Quite enjoy the ride up to Pai, only use the 1095 on the way back, go the longer way riding up there, no minibuses and tourists on scooters on that road, was there last week, be there again next month with the big bike group from Chiang Mai. Quite enjoy a night out there.

Another boring Thailand bashing topic.

No, just what people notice, Thai cities, towns, are just functional ,working towns with shops, a market, train and bus stations, that is about it, and not forgetting food shops and a few temples.

I would vote for Saraburi, with all of the above, and a multiplex cinema.

You go 50km up the road they is Lopburi, an old city summer home for a former king ,lot of old buildings about the place, even an old steam train in front of the station, interesting.

Bar Lopburi, Ayutthaya, Sukenthai, CM ,they are no real old cities in Thailand have seen one, you have seen them all.

I guess that has to do with the limits of your vivid imagination. but, we are all different. Some can see the differences, others can't. Consider yourself in the group who can't.

I can see the difference, not a vivid imagination, we are farangs not Thais, as I said for them a city is a functional working place, you must see that just walking down a high street.

We are used to our cities, and the way of life, it is a bit different here.

The world is full of indistinct rural/farm towns.....At least in Thailand they center it around and create some beautiful wats......A point of local pride to them, overlooked by others.....

In many ways, these anonymous little towns are the backbone of modern society......

My wife's family is from Suphan Buri, another typically indistinct place....Much like PLok......

It used to be the place to catch the midnight boat to Koh Tao back in the early 90's. I used to love waking up at 6am to watch the approach to the island. Then, the climb up the old wooden pier to get to the village.

The ride to and from Nan is delightful, every kilometer of the way. One of our favorite motorcycle routes for a three-day ride.

Oh, I do love this part of the ride, now that they've repaved it. Used to be dreadfully pot-holed.  It was worth it though, to ride that part of the country!

Sounds like you have never been to Chumporn.

For me the only city worth living in is Bangkok. Pattaya had buzz years ago when I was single. I can see it for single men - you just need to dodge the Indians and Russians. I used to leave high season and that helped. Other than that it's pretty much like living in Malaysia imo

Yes, I have. If not, I would not comment on the subject. I assume you mean Chomphon, right?

Hat yai wasn't boring back in the early 2000's. More like an all you can eat buffet. Just had to worry about the bombings once in a while.

Totally agree on that one. at least back then a bustling little city, full of energy, chaos, great and fantastic food, cheap massage parlors, plenty of nightlife (although mostly malaysia/chinese/karaoke themed). Alltogether great fun and nothing but fond memories. Sadly haven't been back there for a while.

I don’t know exactly where it is in Hat Yai ( I have never been), a former colleague of mine was working there but has been stuck in the hotel for a few days now, looking like he will have to be rescued by boat and taken to higher ground !!
