First off I said it was packed with visitors. Lines for every tourist attraction. The ferry to Statue of Liberty tour was packed, huge lines. And this was March so it was cold. Empire State bldg, Times Square, museums.

But, now that you mention it, how people dress, especially the ladies. Saw a crowd of very nicely dressed ladies from Italy, they look different in a good way.

I can spot a yank just by listening, hearing protection is often necessary

Yeah, because Aussies and UK quiet as church mice. Never a frackus and especially with six pints in them never one to be loud, boisterous, obnoxious or pick fights 🙄🙄

A lot of the yanks don't like being recognized as yanks too. Some even put Canadian flags on their clothes/luggage.

The irony being, this is one way that Canadians can easily tell if someone is American. No Canadian ever does this. We have far more subtle ways of signalling to each other...

Add to that the $250 integrity charge for tourist visas, and I imagine tourists will soon be flocking to the US.

Just the "quality" tourists 😜

Non-resident I believe is the criteria, I would assume a US drivers license or ID would be the decider. If all you have is a passport, then obviously you would pay more.

The point being that long term 'residents' with a licence/ID would not have to pay - unlike in Thailand.

People in USA do not carry around their Passport (many dont have one) so a licence/ID is the obvious answer.

Likewise, anyone that looks American would still have to pay - unlike in Thailand.

To the OP @gargamon  The reason why we bitch about dual-pricing is that it is racist. Because here in Thailand they dont ask for ID - they base the charge on race and appearance.  People from Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar etc etc are not charged Tourist rates.  But any Western looking person (white or black falang) is charged Tourist rates.

Thailand should do what what they will probably do it USA- show a licence/ID to be exempted.  In Thailand if you have a Thai driving licence or ID then you should not have to pay Tourist rates - Tourists cannot get a driving licence.  Last time I was entering a national park they demanded I pay Tourist rates. When I previously showed my driving licence with my address on it, that used to be accepted - but they refused and demanded I pay the full charge (not the wife).  I turned around and drove away - but not before saying to them that my wife was an Australian.

Thank goodness I have my lifetime Military and Senior pass already. Just the person that Washington was afraid of, has the audacity to place his mug next to his.

Yes, but why does the US have a much higher percentage than other countries?

Progressive Liberals have infected the country, started in the late 90's, and has "progressively" gotten worse.

Just as an aside, one of my students is going to New Zealand for a study tour in spring. She noticed that the NZ government is adding a $100NZD charge to everyone entering the country, even those from places that have visa waivers. And accessing the New Zealand version of TDAC/ESTA is seventeen bucks, too.

Lots of places are starting to milk the tourists these days.

I grew up in the US, lived and or worked in at least 15 states and I have never been in as home that had a TV in every room.

If Thai national parks were actually any good I wouldn't be complaining but these things are TINY compared to US. Maybe a water fall or just a little clearing in the forest off the main road. The Thai price of 20/40 baht is honestly about right considering what you're getting.

Compare that the US where you can go camping and hiking for days in the national parks. Yes it's more expensive but you're actually buying access to some significant where you can have a real adventure.

I used to think America had problems with too many TVs (living room, bedroom, kitchen, den etc...) but that was until I came to Thailand. These people are just as glued to their screens if not more. It's a global problem and America only got this reputation because they had TV earlier than everyone else and more channels.

An extended exchange of quarrelling was removed. Please debate the subject politely, without blaming each other for coming from this or that country. Thank you.

You see them and guess, then once you hear them talking it pretty much confirms.

That's what I'm saying. It's NOT "just looking" because in order to confirm your guess you need to hear the person speaking.

Given there are 48 Asian countries, 50% correct is pretty good.

In the quiz there are only 3 answers possible. Despite having a 1 in 3 chance of getting the correct answer almost all people get lower than 50%. People are over confident in their ability to distinguish ethnicity/nationality.

How are they going to enforce it? Americans think that IDs are the instrument of the devil or just a fascist state's method of control 🤷‍♂️

If you are a foreigner just show up and declare that you are a sovereign citizen who doesn't carry any ID  and you want to visit 😃
