Who are The Thai Pakdee Party?

They are a joke, I don't believe they even have one MP. Just creating sensational noise, anything to get recognized.

  • What a moronic idea.

  • Yet more pushing for a digital panopticon  we should all hope this idiotic idea fails totally.

  • Inconveniencing 99% of the population and 100% of tourists because they can't (or won't) tackle corrupt government workers and politicians.

Brilliant idea. Get paid in cash. Lets say 40K. 40 notes becomes 400.

Another stupid idea in a long list of stupid ideas. Sounds to me more of a power grab and basically making the economy cashless, which will backfire massively, as Thailand simply won't simplify it all so that local Thais, tourists, and businesses aren't effected. Sooner or later, people the world over are going to realise that you do need cash as a backup/alternative.

As said by others above, India tried this and it was a farcical joke and lesson in ineptitude, plus most serious criminals don't bother much with cash now, it's all crypto... much safer for them. On top of that, making the notes all plastic does throw a bit of a spanner in the works for forgers as it's harder to conterfeit the cash.

The person in this article advocating for this is doing the bidding of the financial system and banks/governments so they can go all China style on everyone... all about control.

We "do need cash as a backup/alternative" when payment systems go down.  It has happened before and will happen again.

The targets of this will just move to a different currency or a high value commodity like gold

I understand what they are saying but it is not the way to go about it,  what I would do is set a date were notes expire - anyone trying to exchange money large amounts of money needs to explain were they got it, i am pretty sure there is a huge amount of cash that people are holding that they cannot explain were it came from but you don't preannounce you are doing it..........this will never happen because of landscaping  - too many gardens dug up with dirty money, but I must admit it would be very interesting to see

- pretty much 70% of thais deal in cash - they don't pay tax they even put it in bank accounts - who is checking where the money comes from ?  it could be checked but isn't, next they say they are going to tax foreign income  when they can't even tax their own citizens

1st of April is early.. Is this the level of educated people who are ruling the country or are these the people who manipulate the THB..In Thailand a lot of is being cash paid.. Even the 1000THB is too small they should have coupures of 5000 or even 10.000. Sometimea I am at the Makro and when it is very busy people are paying with 20 THB billets a bill of 7 or 8 k... long queues appear... and when I bought a new car a few years back I needed to pay it cash and I had a whole bag of money,,, suppose you have to pay it now in only 20 or 100 billets.. This country seems to get dumber and dumber by the day

50 and 25 Satang. Usually given as change at the likes of BigC, Tesco etc. and finish up in the local temple donation box.

I have two small bags of the stuff.

Donation box sounds like an idea.

And really they should be abolished.

2000 and 5000 Baht notes.

That would make sense and save cost in printing and distribution.

First they make it almost impossible to open a bank account.

Then they want to take cash away. IDIOTS

Indian Currency...Today

I love how they hide the six zeros (in remembrance of the original rupee?).

Learned recently that the super rich just count in "crore" which is 10 million.

Or would that just be the serial 😁

They're killing off those fat notes because 1 baht is about to trade even to a dollar. Wake the $$$ up sheeple!

What's the place I am living got to do with it?  I have loads of them, all small change Bht 1 and under go into a big piggy bank. I think my Mrs tried to get rid of some at the bank last year, but was refused.

Lets see here a 250 baht meal from McDonald's would cost 250 dollars instead of  around 8 dollars like now....

Buy 4 lady drinks in a GoGo bar and your out 1000 dollars instead of 30 dollars like now....

Heck it in a few weeks your life savings would be gone..And all farang would be homeless and would be sleeping on the beach begging for food...

This cant be correct, as this forum keeps saying bitcoin is preferred by criminals not cash

More bad than good would come from basically eliminating cash.

Why, Im an old  guy and have used cash all my life and will continue do until I die.

The baht is divided into quarters - 25 satang is 1/4 a baht. Ridiculous coin, no need for them any more.

Example, currently the milk I buy is 99.75 baht. I hand the teller a 100 baht note and say keep the satang.

Maybe it must be paid now with 20 THB billets.... hehehehehehe... and they they miscalculate  and have to count the whole bunch again.. You need a few days before you can have your car heheheheh

Yes, that would be very FUNNY!

ATMs can go as tourists won't want to pay 250 baht to withdraw 2 or 3000 baht (20 or 30 notes max)

I've never seen a "setang coin" ever.

25 & 50 Satang coins are still handed out by most big supermarkets and 7-Elevens, etc. You might have noticed that supermarkets mark prices in Satang, eg 99.75, 99.50, so obviously they need to stock the coins for people who pay cash.
