This has really good reviews.

An American actor in Tokyo struggling to find purpose lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese "rental family" agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers.

He rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the beauty of human connection.

Just watched this with Denzel Washington, one of his better movies.

An action movie with a good story, and without the unrealistic <deleted> you see in his later movies.

He brings his A-game for Spike. It is a real NYC movie. But a real cop would have fenced the gem ;^)

There seems to be a problem these days where sometimes (that's sometimes) the movie is lousy but the performance is good. I liked Roman Israel Esq, his modern-day character is trying to come off like a late 1960s activist, and I remember those days; rest of it unimpressive IMO.

Two other blah movies with impressive performances are Meryl Streep in "Ricky and the Flash" and Sandra Bullock in "All About Steve" -- both of these movies seem to run out steam about 2/3 of the way through.

211, 1883, 1923, Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, Jurassic World-Rebirth, Nobody 2, Megan 2.0, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, Accountant 2, Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers, Alien-Romulus, Wicker Man, Twilight Zone shows, Copland.

I was just thinking to myself as I watched Sisu 2 last night - it's great to have a better choice of Thai subtitles these days. Although not a great deal of dialogue, I was glad the missus doesnt have to pester me to find out what was going on. I enjoyed it, as entertaining as the first, thanks to whoever mentioned it last year. She loves Selling Sunset and all the selling.. spinoffs (if you haven't seen it, just don't) so its great that Netflix has subs and she understands all the politics.

Im finding Fallout series 2 a little boring - There's a some new 24 hour in police custody - last week about the escrochat hack. Two more unrelated specials to follow this week. Currently watching Thousand Blows first series and a sci-fi from 2018, The First https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7412482

The first episode was good as they reset all the characters.

Sometimes even with Thai subs my wife will be mostly absorbed in her phone..until an 'interesting bit ' crops up and then expects me to explain the whole back story that she was not paying attention to for the last half hour.... I tell her that if she had watched the film instead of the mobile phone she would know what was going on and then it's ear bashing time

followed by silent treatment and loud yawning before proclaiming its boring and I'm going to sleep 😂

My wife is fine with the phone, but its the first 5-10-15 mins, she might have not understood its a decent movie yet - so she decides to do something else, maybe checking her phone, going to the toilet, etc .. It wasn't until the second act of Sisu, did she realize its the kind of movie that she likes and then started watching it properly.

The classic was during one our favourites here, Gomorrah .. after 50 hours of it, she sits down during the final episode, watches like 15 mins of it and asks "who is that? why did he do that for?" - I could have screamed.

Nobody 2 and The Accountant 2 were mentioned here and as i realised i hadn’t seen either i decided to give them both a go.

Nobody 2

I liked this, Hutch ( Bob Odenkirk ) is weary and desperate to “ take a break “ with his family.

Obviously he inadvertently runs into some baddies and has to save the day but it is all done with tongue in cheek over the top action.

Odenkirk is a much loved actor and this carries over in his portrayal of Hutch.

The Accountant 2

Christians (Ben Affleck ) character was detailed in the original so no surprises with his behaviour.

Same old story, the Accountant uses his special skills to combat the opposition.

But now, some 8 years later, he has developed some strange accent which wasn’t heard before and he now smiles, jokes and even excels at line dancing. Certainly his lines have increased 100 fold in this movie.

Saving grace for me was the return of his brother, played by Jon Bernthal, to help with the chaos and add his own destructive behaviour to the movie.

We already know the main characters attributes, Family Man/Lethal Assassin and Accountant/Lethal Assassin, so no surprises there, the rest is just gratuitous violence and excessive killing from automatic weapons.

But they are both good attempts at sequels and are saved by the lead actors Odenkirk, Affleck and Bernthal, I would give them 6.5/10.

Dennis Hopper: Uneasy Rider

I suspect the very first scene in Easy Rider is a hint as to how that movie was financed: the guy influenced the movie business by telling the mavens "no."

(fun fact: that guy in the limo testing the sample is Phil Spectre)

Have just watched this and it is difficult to pin Denis Hopper down..........a dopehead, a coke head, an alcoholic and later reformed , an actor, a prophet of sorts, crazy and an ADHD sufferer and a nutter, amongst other things, but despite all of this, he was very watchable (in most of his movies anyway). In all, a very complex/complicated character..........thanks for the heads up on this.

I watched the first 2 ep of star trek starfleet academy......so you don't have to.

Has anyone seen Catch Me a Killer? It is a dramatisation series of the true life story of Micki Pistorius. She was South Africa's first serial killer profiler and was instrumental in catching some of South Africa's most heinous murderers in the 1990's.

I have heard very good reports of the series. I can access it in the UK on U (freeview) but as I am very shortly returning to Thailand was wondering if it was available via any other streaming platforms.

I believe she is the aunt of Oscar Pistorius.

I decided to try Disney's "Togo" and was very pleasantly surprised. "Based on a true story" about a heroic musher in Alaska and his lead dog Togo braving the elements to bring medicine dying children, I thought it was great, if a bit corny.

I only tried it because it stars William DaFoe, and I'll watch anything he's in.

Not to be a dick but its actually Willem not William. But ya hes a good watch.

Lots of shows are available on amazon - but not in this region, so you might need a VPN to access them, along with an amazon subscription. Some services recognise a VPN, for example C4 and they block certain things, I can download and decrypt on my computer, but after installing the app and VPN on my appleTV doesnt let me access C4 shows. Amazon may be like this, idk. Your show is on britbox, so if you have a britbox account, you might be able to stream with a VPN.

Most expats would use one of the clandestine streaming services, (which I would advise not to use, but many use them quite happily), downloading torrent content, or some folks use dedbrid, which I can honestly say I have never looked at, it uses torrent distribution to stream content, actually quite clever but I would rather have something in my home rather than wonder why the stream is slow or buffering (im not even sure it does that)

Don't know if it's the same series, but a show by the same name is available on PB.

With the wife, I like to watch western movies dubbed in Thai and I use the English subs.

Also, some good Thai movies with decent English subs

I only watched one episode of this multicultural, blue haired fat people nonsense.

Doubt I'll watch more of hedge Knight either, I don't want to see men pooping all that much, the 4-5 slutty hookers need to be naked next episode or that's it for me.

Thanks for your reply. I have both Firestick and VPN whilst in Thailand. I also have Amazon subscription when needed.

I have all the UK terrestrial TV apps on my firestick and have no problem accessing them other than ITVX. That always seems to be blocked. No problem whatsoever accessing C4.

For some reason I have to turn the VPN OFF to access Amazon Prime TV whilst in Thailand which I find strange. I also have Apps like Plex and Pluto etc on my Firestick and across all these it provides me with enough viewing.

Thanks again.

I thought The Accountant was a good movie, so I had no hesitation in downloading The Accountant 2, but was very disappointed in it because it was almost as if Affleck was just going through the motions, and IMO he really didn't seem that interested in it, other than it was probably just a moneymaker for him!!

The only movie I have ever rated Ben Affleck in was The Town from 2010. Heist movie with a very good cast. I think overall he is pretty wooden although he was passable in Gone Girl. That movie definitely could have been 45 minutes shorter though.

Indeed, he was also in Jay & Silent Bob, and Exective producer of City On The Hill

Brendan Gleason is pretty fantastic in every movie he appears in. Particularly like his interactions with Colin Farrell in 'In Bruges' and 'The Banshees of Inisherin'. Very good friends in real life so probably makes acting together so much easier.

I agree with the wooden thing, suspected all along that him and his buddy Matt's real talent is on the casting couch. I saw "Pearl Harbor" when it came out, better off with "From Here to Eternity" (the movie that sold billions of tubes of friction ointment shock1 ). Couldn't help noticing that they tried to make Ben look like the lead actress, and vice versa. I suspected the director was going for some kind of Freudian thing about narcissism, or was it gender-bending.
