Bangkok Bank ATM card renewal

Featured Replies

Does not surprise me from rubbish bank.

I withdrew via ATM Kasikorn mid January.

The machine prompted me to include card renewal for 300b.

I opted for Yes.

Strangely the card (expired) can still be used last withdrawal Feb 13.

Will attend branch to obtain new card when in Bangkok.

For me a card is useful. I don't use app.

Do you have to go to your "Home" Branch to renew your Kasikorn ATM Card [I know you do with BBL].

I also like to keep the ATM card (for KBank & BBL) as all of the ATMs near my Condo are Krungsri so they're handy when I need cash but don't want a 20 minute walk to get it.

Usually you can pay by QR code online, alternatively i use a credit card. Usually banks have a partner bank where you can use their ATM for a small fee, personally just plan better and it's never an i

Renewed mine in branch with BB last week. New card is Be1st and fee was 300 + 100 (no idea) Also card does initially not allow on line purchases. Asked for this to be changed ans was told not possible for 48 hrs but can be done via the app. I have a new phone and have had one hell of a job getting the app installed (selfie issues) 30 minutes in the bank smiling, blinking and turning my head with bank staff still got me nowhere. Continued to try at home and was succesful this morning. Looking forward to when my seasoning period is up and I can move!

If you use the Wise app , online purchases are not a problem

you van use the "physical card #" or the "Digital Card" #

Revolut is also awesome to use, I keep a THB balance and top it up when the exchange rate is favourable then spend it either online or using the card.

I pay £80 for 12 months "Premium" account (normally £8 per month) which has already paid for itself when using the card in Maldives & Malaysia. No fees (on their side) and an exchange rate as good as I can get from the banks so I even use it for payments as small as 15 MYR (£2.83).

I can also draw up to the equivalent of £400 with no fees (on their side) in a rolling 30 day period from anywhere, again the exchange rate is as good as if not better than you'd get from another Bank & I don't get stunk with the 2.99% that I get charged with my Barclays debit card (BBL & KBank charge 100THB + 2.5%).

Yesterday I renewed my Bangkok Bank ATM card at the Kumphawapi branch. The account was opened in Central Udon Thani.

You can renew in any Bangkok Bank branch.

No. And if you use their K-Plus app, you can even order the card from the app and don't need to go to any branch.

My Bangkok Bank ATM card expired end of January and today I went to the Bank for a new card.

I was told if I had renewed it before it expired it would have been a fee of ฿100 ,but as it had expired I had to pay a fee of ฿699.

I had to have a valid Non O visa to do this renewal .

I get an automatic ATM Annual Fee as shown on my bank statements of 300 baht every January, peanuts, not a bad price for a whole year of using the banking app, online banking, paying by scanner etc, cheap as chips.

Plus as I get a small amount of interest which is about 1300 baht a year, they are actually paying me to bank with them, no complaints at all with Bangkok Bank, it takes them two minutes to produce the 800k baht letter once a year to take to the immigration office.

I cannot fault the bank.

Why this app-aversion?

ATM card renewel and the annual fee are not thes same thing.

My annual fee is deducted in June or July. My card expired end of January. I will have to pay my annual fee as usualmin June or July.

So how do you get a new Kasikorn ATM card which you've ordered through the K+ app, then? After you've placed your order, will it then materialise before your very eyes with a great big WHOOOSH??

No you cannot. Some BBL branches refuse to provide basic services to foreigners and tell you to go to the branch where your account was opened. I'm speaking from personal experience but this type of behaviour has been widely documented on this site for many years.

Has anyone been able to make a cardless withdrawal using a ATM from a different bank?

4 hours ago, The Old Bull said:

OK I'll give it a try. I have a Bangkok Bank account and have tried three other ATM's with no luck.

BBL card can be used at Kasikorn, GSB, Krung Thai and SCB ATMs as well as their own. I've only ever used mine at Kasikorn and no issues.

The question was about cardless withdrawals, I know I can do BBL cashless withdrawals from KBank & visaversa but last time I tried I could only do cashless withdrawals from Krungsri from my (well technically my partner's, app is on my phone as she doesn't trust banking apps on the phone she takes out with her) Krungsri account.

I take it you don't need the 12 month Bank statement when you go to Immigration then?

There are many reported problems with Bangkok Bank including:-

  1. 7 days to produce a 12 month Bank statement that would be acceptible to Immigration.

  2. Freezing of monies in Bank Account or refusal to provide letter for immigration if it hasn't been in there for at least 4 months

  3. Freezing of monies in bank account pending additional proof of ID (without informing the customer)

  4. Closing of accounts for people who aren't on a long term visa (Including DTV holders).

I've personally only had experience of #3 and luckily enough only had to go to Jomtien 3 times (total cost 1,200 THB in Taxis), if it would have been my other account opened in Bangkok it would have been a lot more expensive.

Their service used to be great but seems to have gone down in recent years...

  1. Our closest branch told my GF they could only offer her .05% pa interest on an FD account despite putting 1Million, went to the Branch in Central and got (IIRC) 1.7%.

  2. When trying to move money from my (Jomtien homed) FD account to my (Bangkok homed) Savings account, they wanted 1,200 THB in chargest, central wanted 600 THB (but couldn't do it because it was then that we found out the account was frozen) as did Jomtien.

Not for me, I've opened a Kasikorn FD account, transferred another 400K for BBK and another 400K from the UK to top this up to 800K and will hopefully switch to this when I do my next extension but will keep the BBL account for day to day spends.

I think you are replying to a typo with one of your own😁

9 minutes ago, Unamerican said:

Because they are slow, cumbersome and awkward to use when compared to a bank card. Back in my home country (UK), all you need do to make a contactless payment of up to the equivalent of ฿4,200 is by holding your card against a scanner and listening out for a beep. Little need there for the relatively complex process of setting up your phone to fire an e-pot shot against that scourge of the 21st Century known as the QR Code!

Unfortunately, the Bank of Thailand, through their actions as regulators of the Thai banking sector, have clearly demonstrated a steadfast determination not to sanction the introduction of similarly straight-forward methods for making electronic payments here in Thailand, through (1) restricting the maximum amount of a contactless card payment to ฿1,500 and (2) their abject failure to include in the shed-load of diktats which they periodically issue to Thai banks one which specifically forbids the levying any fee or charge for the use of Thai bank cards (no fees or charges are levied by UK banks for their credit and debit cards).

I feel that the Bank of Thailand have much to answer for here. In particular, any claims on their part that they are solely motivated by an overwhelming desire to make the banking process here in LOS just as secure and convenient for local account holders as it humanly can be is IMHO clearly a load of hogwash BS.

Sorry, I meant cardless.

The banks listed are the options to select from when using cardless withdrawal from the BBL app.

Thanks, It's been a while since I've used a Krungsri ATM but if I can do BBL/KBank withdrawals from one then maybe I could ditch the ATM cards and save on the annual/renewal fees (should more than cover any additional 10 THB fees when withdrawing).

As soon as you use the new card for the first time the old one will stop working. At least that’s the way it is in Germany.

Agree with that, but if prepared in advance they (apps) are probably quicker when at the ATM and at least as quick at the till, but relying on others to be prepared is not a certainty as we all know.

Krugsri weren't on my list.

When was the last time you were fobbed off with this excuse?

For info, in the last 3 years or so, I have obtained a new bank book, a replacement card and updated my account info at BBL Udon for my account at BBL in Pattaya. I haven't visited the Pattaya branch for about 10 years.

I'm pretty sure your annual fee is for the debit card use. I have two savings accts. One has a debit card and an annual card fee. The other savings acct doesn't have a debit card and it doesn't have an annual fee.

I am the same with TTB, 2 accounts, one with and one without card. My card would just come through the post when due for renewal.

However last year the card never arrived so I went off to the bank. They said they had stopped issuing ATM cards and had introduced a new international card, which meant a new agreement. A bit of paperwork and good to go, card can be used worlwide.

Same here. Seem to remember my branch was shut down, they gave me another but not having been there can't remember where it is.

Just a heads-up: Bangkok Bank debit cards usually do not display the cardholder’s name. When used for online payments, this led to my reservation being cancelled after Agoda asked for a photo of my card, even though the payment had already been debited. However, it is possible to request a debit card with the cardholder’s name printed on it.
