New Passport transfer visa/extension of stay!

Featured Replies

I guess I will have a new passport when I arriving next time, so I believe I can stamp in as visa exempt, and transfer my extension of stay at my local immigration?

When I get a new passport, they will cut my old passport in the corner, and let me keep the essential part, or isn't that necessary since they got all the documentation at my immigration office? I do have a copy and pics of my visa and also my re enter permit.

How much do it cost?

No! Do not enter visa exempt. You enter on the new passport but you show your re-entry permit in the old one and you enter on that permit. Make sure they stamp you in properly!

As @Upnotover correctly stated, you show both passports when you stamp in. Passport control will stamp you in on the new one, making a note that you're extension and re-entry permit are in the old passport..

Then you take both pairs to the immigration office where you got the extension and get the stamps moved.

So make sure you bring you canceled passport when you fly back in along with the new one..

Enter with both pp. Old and New.

You may/should present both to airline at departure to Thailand.

Shows you do not need onward flight as you have a reentry permit

Thank you,

OP, you didn't mention immigration office..

There is no urgency to transfer visa info and stamps to new pp.

You could let it slide till you had business with immigration.

Be aware that apart from standard photocopies CW also now require bank book photocopies + update on day of stamp transfer

Im not sure I understand?

Im for now on embassy letter until I renew my extension of stay, which will be in November. I will renew my pp in april, and when I return, my wife have to bring the pp for me coming back to Thailand, and I guess they want to do the transfer asap?

What do you mean "wife will have to bring the pp for me coming back to Thailand"

Wife as nothing to do with anything.

Nor does fact you use embassy letter for extensions.

So let's be clear.

You are currently in Thailand and plan to renew your pp when back in home country?

Obviously obtain a reentry permit prior to exit from Thailand.

You are confused. Please explain

I will renew my pp in Norway, I do have multiple reentry permit with my extension of stay. I was confused about this part «Be aware that apart from standard photocopies CW also now require bank book photocopies + update on day of stamp transfer»

The TM 30 my wife do every time when I am coming back home, so I do not think I can postpone the transfer when back in to Thailand.

TM30 should have nothing to do with transfer of stamps.

You are returning to usual place of residence.

You transfer where the stamps were issued.

Which immigration office?

BTW, don't forget to update new pp details with your Thai bank

Thanks Im aware of the bank and new pp. My wife have to go personally everytime to the Immigration to update my return with my pp, thats how they want it, and since we are not a business, we can not do it online. Chaiyaphum

I just asked her now, and she is not sure it is necessary to bring the pp, but she do in case they want to know something. Anyway, Im leaving again once more before renewal of my extension of stay, so better to get it done before than later.

By all means do ASAP.

If for some reason not possible, you can travel with both passports old + new . No issue

and Thai SIM card provider (your registration with them will need to be amended on the basis of the last 4 digits of your new passport number, which in the case of AIS can be checked by dialling *161#).

Yes.

He is obtaining new pp out of Thailand. He will enter with both passports.

After entering Thailand he will attend immigration office where stamps were issued for transfer.

Yes no charge

Officially there isn't, but I do recall reports on here of the odd rogue office levying a small charge.

And probably with many other organisations and businesses that require a copy of your passport!

EG: all other bank accounts, various phone service providers, etc., etc.

Nah

Only do your bank(s).

Anything else only creates paperwork, copies, confusion, costs etc.

You will need a box of beer to get over all the hassles.🙃🙃

Your sim card you should update.

My driving licenses is up for upgrade in september, so convenient, and Pink card as well when it needs to be renewed if you got one.

@DrJack54

Im not sure I got answer on this one?

What do you mean by this? I might have hard for it, but I rather ask once to much, than one to little, and if I missed the explanation, sorry about that.

Does the Pink Card/ Yellow book have an expiry date? Cannot see any on mine.

I guess they need changing/updating if you move house.

Not on either of my AIS phones.

Pink card bottom line, you see when created and the end date. 10 years validity

Mine has start date and then Validity for Life. I hope they don't think I will last less than 10 years.

But of course, it has your current address so will need to be changed on moving home.

I registered and applied and got a TM30 over five years ago in my Mrs' name. Since then I have been to Dubai/UK every year as well as staying in proper hotels in Bkk and Pattaya with no questions asked at Extension time. In fact the IO lady printed a copy of the tatty old one, which was PAPERCLIPPED into my Passport!

Very true. I went through a real hassle last month at AIS because I had not updated. My local AIS would not accept a PP photocopy or photo on my phone. They had to scan the actual new document as well as scan my face again. (apologies for tangent, but it's a good point.)
