Foreign Drunk Driver accused of poor parking at Pattaya Market

car-11.jpg

PATTAYA: -- On Tuesday Morning, Traffic Police were called to the Soi Buakhao Market in South Pattaya by a Traffic Police Volunteer who witnessed a drunken man, thought to be a foreign national, park his car in the middle of the market, blocking the road.

Khun Itapon, the Police Volunteer, challenged the man, who was described as a foreign national with a middle-eastern appearance, to move his car as it was causing an obstruction. He ignored the Volunteer and walked into the market.

Traffic Police arrived and searched for the man, who left his car unlocked. He could not be found and papers inside the car suggested it was owned by Khun Donyar who is based in Sriracha District.

It's got to be very bad parking to get charged with that over here.

Two comments removed for unnecessary slurs against Thai drivers. The topic is about a foreigner. Thank you.

The headline is correct but as for blocking the road, that is nonsense

That's funny considering that blocking roads , parking illegally , stoping in the middle of the road is a normal daily occurrence .

Is this a big deal because he was a foreigner ?

Please look at the picture. That is hardly a normal parking position for a car,

Hillarious, duess he is a long term xpat.

Probably because it was market day otherwise would not have been noticed smile.png

Who says he is a resident?

Clamp it, or better tow it.

What is the issue!

While his parking is pathetic, he is blocking one lane, not the whole roadway, the other lane has traffic moving in it. He IS parked facing oncoming traffic but I have seen much worse blocking of soi Buakaow, often by local drivers and baht buses double-parking. I also suspect that the fact he is a foreigner is what got the attention!

Pretty much normal parking by the Kingdom's standards, what's the big deal?

Ummmm ...... what got the attention was that he totally ignored the Traffic police volunteer and so reinforcements were called.

The driver could have been anyone and with the likely same result but happened to be described as a foreigner.

is the drunk part for sensationalism? Was he tested? Maybe he has a medical issue? Can't even find the dude?

Should not even be reported in the press this story and wouldn't have been had it been a thai...

We'll look at it as a funny side. Think about a great night this man had. Jumping in the car , properly not able to walk, driving home and park there. Get outside look at the car. Yea it's park okay, let's go sleep.:)

Serious, was that the only car they could find parked that way? I thought this is standard parking in LOS ...

Sorry, I have seen worse parking, on a daily basis. Just try to drive by the market in Udon. Ninety percent of the cars stopping there park "in or close to the middle of the road". Traffic is obstructed as well. Same near sidewalk vendors at dinnertime. I am serious. This is actually funny....

Drunken driving should be the crime listed here, not drunken parking. Take him in to jail and have the police move the car. I've spent the past 5 years trying to get around badly parked cars, cars parked too far from the curb, blocking other vehicles, parked in two spaces etc. I hope this is a much wider crackdown! lol

I saw that car there yesterday and the cops had put a sign on south patt road saying that only bikes were allowed to turn into soi bacau because of that car, lol.

It was parked where the baht buses normally park during market days.

It gonna cost for the driver to get off that one, 50k baht will likely do it and the cops will forget about it (since nobody was hurt).

Well just another day here in Pattts, all is normal.

Next.

Maybe he wasn't worried about what the police said, but he should have been a bit more worried about the possible reaction of the unpredictable Songthaew drivers for parking in that locationgiggle.gif

On market day all parking is banned along that stretch of road and even so there is a constant tail-back of traffic to/from the corner with South Road, where they also restrict the left and right turns to prevent traffic build-up.

Any idiot who parks like that in that place on market day should have his vehicle towed and crushed, preferably with him in it.

Doesn't look like soi Buakhao market to me.

This was not blocking the road so either a photo of a different vehicle or the vehicle was moved prior to this picture.

If you know soi bukhaow then you would know that parking like that will back up traffic from N.Pattaya to S. pattaya, and he is parked at the beginning of soi bukhaow & S. Pattaya road.

If he had just thought to leave his 4-way flashers flashing - then it would have been viewed as just a 'Normal' parking arrangement..................................

Read the report, it was towed.

Is this a big deal because he was a foreigner ?

Sure looks that way! But he probably deserved it.

Can't blame him, there are no parking lines to align the wheels to.

Strange.....in the West we put "cones" out to warn of an "hazard"

Here they stand a guy in an orange shirt
