BANGKOK: Northeastern people are unhappy while central region people are very happy since the military junta seized power from civilian government two years ago.

This was the finding of a private university released to the media today.

According to the poll conducted by Rangsit University from a total of 3,500 people in all regions of the country during May 9 to 15, people living in the Northeast have the least happiness during the two years period after the military take-over.

They gave an average score of 5.84 out of 10 when they were asked to rate their happiness following the military coup in May 2014

But for people living in the central region, they were very happy when asked about his happy they were after the military junta came in power.

They gave an average score of 7.39 out of 10 about happiness.

For people who said “not bad” when asked whether they are happy, the average score given was 6.65.

On returning happiness to the people campaign, most people polled said the Prime Minister’s Office was successful in the campaign, scoring 8.25, followed by the Ministry of Defense 8.13, and Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives 8.02.

I live in the NE and the only difference I can see between the pre and post military takeover is the crackdown on gambling such as hi-low and Bok. Otherwise nothing has changed. I would like to see the reasons why the people are not happy.

Having their democratic right to choose a leader and a government being taken away maybe?, just a wild guess

Yawn.

Think back 1 step: democracy / democratic leaders ?

Their UDD / red leaders: elected democratically ?

3,500 people from the whole country what a joke

By the results it looks like 90% of them were from Korat!

...which would be twice as many as in any NIDA-dingdonghappyhappy- poll....

While the UDD was/is a profoundly hierarchical undemocratic organization it did theoretically support democracy. Many of the Issan people feel that they have lost their voice, or rather a voice that purportedly represented them, in the government.

The Junta needs to bite the bullet: it's time to hold elections and abide by the results.

I'm not surprised you don't see any difference in the state of "happiness" but then again you don't have a dog in the fight so fair enough, the other thing is possible wife and kids, but most Thai's don't talk to much of politics.

here's a few reasons they might be a little unhappy.

Their kids being taken away for "AA" and often family's are not informed prior to the "Invitation" that can not be refused.

Their mothers their father's brothers sisters being taken for "AA" for expressing their point of view or calling for investigations into corruption.

Being charged and taken too gaol for having a red bowl for crying out loud, think that is upsetting a few people maybe?

How about civilians being tried in military courts? clicking like on your FB is now a crime if the junta don't like the comment.

I've lived south of BKK and yes the majority of the people there are democrats which the military back,

Now it's also true that many many central and southern Thai's have a superiority complex regarding themselves and the north but even greater distain for people from north east (Issan) one reason being language, dialect and their history, heritage, culture that being Lao in origin.

I guess the other major issue would be that they chose a leader and he was removed, then Mark was given the top job and elections they chose again and once again plotting to remove a government of the peoples choice.

So Pimay1, how would you feel if in your home country legally elected government keeps being thrown out via military coups? and family and friends being taken away for "AA" because they having different opinions

Reckon your "happiness " might be a little low as well.

They didn't have to be, they weren't up for election. Do you see the difference?

They're not happy because Obama is in the White House, HRC will occupy it for the next eight years and they're not allowed to own assault rifles or Uzies - that's why!

Dismal how the level of discussion has deteriorated

Central Thailand has done very well with military rule. The most lucrative bases and purchasing activity is located in the central region.

I live in a village in Central Thailand. The income of the people here has been decimated this last year. If I filled this post with what the vast majority think of the Govt I'd be up for AA myself.

Obviously your reading and comprehension skills need a lot of work.

"Northeastern people are unhappy while central region people are very happy since the military junta seized power from civilian government two years ago."

There goes the government's campaign to wrest the title of "The Happiest Place on Earth" from Disneyworld.

I live in what was once an overtly red area but all the flags, posters, cardboard cutouts of YL etc disappeared within days of the coup.

My neighbours don't speak much of politics and what's going on but it's obviously there bubbling away under the surface and the question is what will it take for the spark to set it all off ?

I live in Korat and teach at a large government university! The people I interface with our very happy with the PM and most

do not want an election anytime soon. They want the government to continue looking for and fighting corruption. They give

the PM and his government a thumbs up! It seems to me, the only people wanting elections are the politicians who want to

continue their corruption and buying their elections. Amazing Thailand.

Interesting..

I live in the northeast and people here really do not seem to care much one way or the other.

Live for the common person has not changed much at all since the change in government.

People are too busy with their daily lives, feeding the family, worrying about the weather and working on their farms to pay much attention

Life goes on, and it's really pretty much the same.

"I live in Korat and teach at a large government university! "

You can tell a lot about someone by examining the things he or she believes are important or worthy of emphasis.

The use of the exclamation mark in the above comment was interesting.

Agree, The people who were fired-up redshirts are still fired-up redshirts. The people who were apathetic and only interested in whether they have whisky to drink tonight are still only interested in that. And getting money is always of interest of course.
