Video: Road rage with a golf club and a little kid in the car

A road rage incident in Chiang Mai has been viewed on Facebook more than two million times.

It shows a middle aged man getting out of his Fortuner after another driver tried to exit the Don Jan to Sankhamphaeng road to go to a store. The Fortuner driver appears angry at being hooted at.

The driver of the car with the dash cam said that the Fortuner driver was trying to enter the main road through the exit slip road.

He sounded his horn and the other driver stopped then came out of his vehicle with a golf club and took two swings at his car smashing a front side window spreading glass all over the dash.

A child begins crying but the driver maintains his composure, speaks politely and calls the cops.

The footage was posted on the page of Santiphap Viriyothai who said the incident happened at 1pm Sunday.

Thai Rath said that the police settled the matter after the participants agreed on recompense.

No mention was made of charges against the driver of the Fortuner.

An apparent typo in the Thai Rath report of the Facebook wording put the Fortuner driver's age as 5 - 60.

Not charged?

The sooner they move away from this compensation malarkey the better off they will be.

It is the root cause and basis of their utterly irresponsible behaviour which extends across most fields of activity in Thailand.

No need for the golf club of course but the fortuner had right of way here.

The driver of the car with the dash cam is lying because you can clearly see that the fortuner was NOT trying to enter the main road through the exit slip road, the exit slip road being the one the dash cam driver is on at the time of the incident.

Paying compensation is ok and is needed, but there should also be a compensation added for harassing and of course time in prison. The attacker should go to prison directly until the compensation is paid in full.

Then out on bail until the court hearing takes place with the prison sentence..

agreed; the resolution here effectively rewards bad behavior as it hand-waves away the aggression;

now he will be empowered to do it again

I agree with that.

Not just something out of the Code of Hammurabi with the police acting as "middlemen" and "facilitators" during the exchange of cash.

That's a walker, used for assisting in walking.  Regardless a short-tempered over righteous a-hole endangering the public.  Take his license away for a year and make him a sidewalk attendant at a school crosswalk for a year until he learns to calm down.

The fortuner was crossing 2 lanes at a time and coming from the  exit car park promenade , the other car had right of way !

One has to ask what kind of "mental state" of mind mind this guy has to allow a horn to "tee" him off.....four '''''''''''

The Fortuner pulled out on to the 2 lane slip road straight into the second lane, he wasn't really paying attending and a small 'pap' of the horn was quite reasonable.

The Foturner then stopped blocking the car, which again warranted a 'pap' of the horn.

The Fortuner driver was a to$$er... driving a little carelessly then following up is careless driving with aggression and road rage.

Exactly. He should have been arrested and charged with assault with an offensive weapon. A putter? Seriously, until these people are taken to court and punished nothing will change. But then this means more work for the BIB. Forget it!:saai:

...until he gets knifed or shot by the next guy he bullies. I hope to read about it. It just goes to show that money doesn't buy class.

"No mention was made of charges against the driver of the Fortuner."

that's the problem ,pay compensation, and the law turns a blind eye,

punishment needs to be given or nothing will change and next time

he may have a gun.

Happens quite often to me,a car or truck will nearly take the front

end off my vehicle,by pulling in front too quickly, toot the horn and

you get a dirty look,as though it's your fault, this little guy did exactley

that and we were stuck in traffic next to each other, and he's trying

to get a baseball bat out from under the seat, while making Bruce Lee

noises, but he took too long and traffic began to move.

Yes but in Thailand everything is settled with money.  If you have money you can pretty much do whatever you like and pay to get away with it.  Something for the injured party and something for the policeman.  Justice doesn't really have anything to do with it.  Sad I know but true.

For those uninitiated, Thais have SFR, or a “save face reflex” which is a neural pathway that bypasses reason and patience. They just can’t help themselves.
