Father stalks and shoots his own daughter in north east Thailand

Sanook reported that a father - angry that his teenage daughter was living with her boyfriend - stalked and shot her with an air rifle. 

 

"Em", 18, told the media that while she was washing up last Wednesday at her boyfriend's house she heard the sound of a gun and something hit the doorframe and ricocheted into a cabinet. She found an airgun pellet on a washing machine. 

 

Then next day while she was out the back of the house in Chumphonburi, Surin, she felt a pain in her neck. There was blood and she initially thought she had been stung by an insect. 

 

A neighbor heard another shot at that time. 

 

Em ran into the house where her boyfriend's mother thought she had been shot.

 

Doctors at a hospital in Buriram confirmed that a pellet was embedded in her neck. They would not remove it as it was dangerously near an artery. They would wait until it moved nearer the surface of the skin. 

 

Meanwhile the father of the victim - Preecha, 50 - contacted Pol Capt Theerawat Khamnin of the Chumphonburi police to admit what he had done. He is now being held in custody after he was arrested. 

 

Em said she forgives him but wants the case to run its course. 

 

Sanook reported that the father was angry that his daughter defied him and went to live at the house of her boyfriend. 

 

On two previous occasions the police and the phu yai ban ( a village elder) had got involved after he threatened to kill her.

And nothing her parents can legally do.

The father needs to go to jail for causing actual bodily harm or attempted murder but more than likely neither despite saying he would kill her and almost hit an artery which may have cased her to bleed out

That's right 18 is the legal age of consent as it is in most countries around the world .

My dad shot me in the back with an air gun when I was in High School. He was shocked at how angry I got. He assumed it was a toy and was just playing a joke. The pellet went through my shirt and broke the skin. He did apologize after he had a good laugh. This was nowhere near the most insane thing my dad had done, even with a firearm. He's a great guy, but entirely no sense of caution. He's 84 now so he has slowed down a bit.

I thought parental consent was also required from 15years to 18years.

Who said they had sex? I thought people in Thailand wait until they get married to do such things.

The age of consent in Thailand is 15 regardless of gender or sexual orientation, as specified by article 279 of the Thai Criminal Code. The current legislation applies to all regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

However, parts of the Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act, which disallow any sexual contact with prostitutes under the age of 18, are widely interpreted by some local authorities to cover sexual acts classed as "obscenity for personal gratification". Also, from the Penal Code Amendment Actof 1997 Section 283bis, having sex with an adolescent under 18 is a compoundable offense even with the consent of that person. The parent or the adolescent may file charges against the other side if they later regret their own action. This ostensibly makes the Thai unfettered age of consent 18.

A high-profile example of this application of the law was a statutory rape charge filed against the lead singer of the Thai band Big Ass for allegedly having had sex with a (then) 16-year-old girl. The charge was filed by the girl after the singer refused to take responsibility for her baby. The singer has since been cleared of being the baby's father due to the results of a paternity test and he received 2 years suspended sentence

can see his excuse was that "he used an air rifle because no one can die from that!" ????  

Lord have mercy,what kind of medics are these,can't remove the pellet,close to artery,,glad they have better medics in the army.

I believe there is a difference between the age of consent and the age of majority. The former can be as low as 11 in some countries, but the latter will render it meaningless, as until the age of majority is reached, usually 18, a minor is not legally empowered to give her consent to anything. She would need to have her parent's permission. But I'm not a lawyer.

LOL, the first and only think that you think about , sex with a teenager .

 

Me thinks the Father was angry because he lost the Wedding Dowry.

The age of Majority in Thailand is 20 or so I have been told, No consent needed for sex 18+, bewildering sure is. 

So the father could demand the daughter stay at the house

Between 15 and 18 a person can give consent without parental approval, but the person can "change" his/her mind and "remove" the consent after the fact making the other person guilty of having sex with a minor. Even if both parties are 15-18 and one changes his/her mind - the other is guilty for having sex with a minor. So for all practical matters, 18 is the "real" age of consent.

AFAIK Thailand doesn't have a statutory rape law, but sex with a minor divided into sub-categories such as "with a minor between 15 and 18", "with a minor under 15" and "with a minor under 13", and of course the lower the age the bigger the penalty.
