So Chinese coming into the country pose NO threat? Is that what you are saying? There has been plenty of studies showing that face masks are not near as much help as starting away from people who may have the virus like Chinese tourists. So it is the government not the stupid and naive. Most of us love Thai people, but we don't like the Thai government when it says one thing, but does another.

What are you talking about? The only ones panicking are people in China and clueless healthy people thinking a mask protects you from getting infected. The mask is supposed to protect others, not the person wearing the mask.

I've lived in Thailand for five year and have only ever been treated like royalty. I've never experienced discrimination of any kind. I have also been living in Thailand for more than 6 years and in that time have fully supported my partner. I have paid for her expensive surgery for a sever back injury as well as proving for her continued education during the past few years. I think it is a common practice of Asian people to wear masks for different reasons - pollution, being sick, avoiding to get sick. We don't have the same in Farang countries. In some Farang countries it is in the meantime even against the law to cover your face. So compared to Farangs I see many Asian people with masks in shopping malls and when they are visiting tourists attractions. I think it is simply the mentality that they use masks more often - and if the reason might be only fashion.

So what you are saying, if I understand your slightly less than fluent English, is that his outburst should go viral and by so doing, show the whole world how racist and xenophobic Thailand is and as a consequence, the world will boycott Thailand and no foreigner should come anymore? Partnerships with China far exceed any European  based nations.   Thailand is set to become a State of China in the future IMO and all Thais to become Chinese Communist citizens.  There is an increasingly brewing xenophobic, racist feeling against the 'West' and an increasing alliance with China.  China is the new super power and globally it is overtaking nations everywhere by economic stealth. That is painfully obvious for anyone including 'Blind Freddy'. 

The Minister here IMO, albeit venting frustration, may be expressing the overall views of a Thai elite government who want westerners out altogether and the transition to begin for re-education.  Some people set to become very very rich, like many other governments around the world who have succumbed.

Westerners are pretty fair game now for the Thai authorities and this moron has amply shown this. What is bothersome about him is that this sort of issue must be bubbling like a half inch under the surface and only took one foreigner to say 'no, thanks' and he flew off the handle into some xenophobic rant. In any sane country he would have been sacked the same day. Can you imagine if a health minister in Europe or somewhere threatened to expel wops, chinks, nips, dagos because one had had the temerity to decline his offer?

I think he was trying to do a PR stunt and wanted Thai social media to start fawning over how wonderful he is giving up his time to hand out masks like the other citizens who have recently been commended for doing this (western woman and Chinese guy) but it went badly wrong because his arrogance got in the way when it went astray by the narrowest of margins. Secondly, they haven't been too hard on the Chinese turning up because they are scared stiff that the Chinese authorities will take revenge on all places that have banned their citizens and Thailand has gambled that if they don't do this then they will reap double or more back when the Chinese government says to all its sheep - after this blows over - to go to Thailand as a reward for the Thais acting as a province of China and doing as told. Cynical greed by the elite and happy to risk it all for tourist Yuan by doing as instructed.

 

Maybe Oberführer Anutin is flaunting his credentials for a promotion to head the Foreign Ministry or be immigration chief.

Thailand allowed thousands of Chinese potentially carrying the virus to enter since from the beginning of this outbreak.  Each carrier can spread it to others just like a flu virus. It can spread for the whole period it incubates inside you, symptomatic or asymptomatic.  It does not discriminate who you are! A virus doesn't care if you are Chinese or not! A virus is a ... VIRUS.  Think about what you wrote.  Think about how you normally contract a flu.  Same deal here except higher percentage mortality rate.
