  • What a sad story.  None of the players come out of this with any honour or humanity, but that's the world we live in now.

  • Everybody attacking Thai Immigration for doing their job. The Japanese guy knew the rules when he entered the country....he was an illigal immigrant...the same kind that you all rail against when insi

Deportation and a 10 year ban! I wouldn't want to come back to a place where cheap betrayal has greater virtue than some level of compassion.

Yes, I understand the law - but for me there is the spirit of it or the strong-arm version.

curious to know if those nine generalisations (9 in one little post!) are based on your personal experience after living in Japan. Or are they just ordinary generalisations?

Speaking as someone who lives in Japan now, and has lived there for more than 20 years, your list needs a little work.  It's a nice place to make money (then spend in Thailand) but by no means is it the paradise you think.

At least everyone knows they enforce the rules no matter how heart breaking the story is. No wishy washy with these guys, no slack, no doubt

The land of smiles? If you marry one of ours and no matter how long you live here, if she dies f* off. And I dare say he paid for her medical and funeral expenses. Poor guy. Very sad.

The onboard diagnostics in the smart car - notebook, tablet and internet connection

Notebooks (i.e. laptops), tablets, internet connection and BMWs must be very rare in Thailand for this 'smart contraption' to become a national pride and joy and earn heroic mention every time it is utilised.

Here we go again: they need 8 officers to check and arrest and old quiet fart, where 2 officers should be the norm and sufficient. Imagine how productive this country could be if they learn to organize themself.

But they needed all those officers there to protect the smart BMW in case somebody tried to steal it.  Imagine the delicious kerfuffle if that happened.  555

They had been told by the informant that there was a person who looked like a foreigner who hardly ever went out of his house. They thought he might be a wanted criminal.

This is what the public thinks about foreigners? And they are encouraged to snitch to the authorities. Why on earth as a westerner would you want to live in Thailand? The xenophobia is overwhelming.

You must be a great person to be around.

The poor guy lost his wife and now probably lost everything he owned. And you think it's Ok and the right thing to do. Where's your compassion? Or maybe everything is black and white in your life.

Sure the guy was illegally staying in the country, was he harming anyone? I have no idea if he's wealthy or poor but the reality is that he was still contributing to Thai society. He still supported the grocery store and local economy which in turn is helping the Thai people. One less foreigner helping the country/community.

Just remember one thing Mr. Moral's, everytime a "criminal" like this is kicked out, several Thai people lose support directly and indirectly.

I don't support crime or illegality but look at the situation.

Thailand doesn't really want you the foreigners and it's obvious with all the demands and requirements getting more and more. They don't care if you have a wife and or kids. They don't care about breaking up a family. The rules say XYZ, you don't meet them? Though <deleted> for you and everyone involved.

I've rambled on enough.

I'm sorry for the Japanese "criminal". Hopefully he'll survive the ordeal.

Yep. I think most of on the forum are law abiding and respect the law of the land and the consideration we get in return is...what? Well, you said it...more rules/requirements to meet. If the 'good Samaritans' respect Thai law why don't they report those many m/c driving the wrong way etc. which in my view is worse than an overstay.

Unfortunately, I don't think the Japanese man's problems are over yet because for long overstay '...(You will then be held in the IDC ( Immigration Detention Center ) until you can arrange for a ticket on a direct flight back to your own country.  You will then have to pay a small fee to the immigration officers to take you to the airport.' Indignation to end.

I hope there will be some kind person waiting for him when he returns to Japan

I feel so sorry for this guy and the hollow shallow posters on here. Just think it is very possible if not probable that this man built or bought this house with his wife as their home (how many expats are in the same boat as him). The woman he loves dies leaving/abandoning him alone in a foreign country. His actions are more like a man consoled with grief with the last thing on his mind 90 day immigration and annual humiliation. Is it more likely that he was reported not by anyone of good character but by some greedy relitive of his wife smelling money. Thank god we left. Thailand is sick with a xenophobic cancer where terms like land of raw fish, alien depictions officially used and the word farang which should be so offensive to be referred to  as a white fleshed fruit. So very sad.

Tens of thousands of Thai are offered amnesty for working illegally in S. Korea so that they can repatriate due to the Coronavirus.  That's how a country which values human rights and human dignity operate.

In Thailand a foreigner married to a Thai wife becomes a criminal because there are no laws in place to protect a foreigner-Thai family.  Death does not dissolve a family in first world countries; death makes a widower a criminal in Thailand.  This county has neither heart, compassion, or even basic humanity toward those whom are not Thai.

Another poor soul who will be locked up in the immigration cell awaiting to be booted out the good news is he will go back to his homeland and support his local economy rather than spending it in a country that is not so friendly to foreigners. I suppose they need to find room for the reported 5,000 illegal Thai workers who are being shipped out of South Korea due to the virus.

Maybe it's time I start reporting the Thais I know illegally working in other countries to the immigration enforcement of those countries.

Some sad excuses for human beings in Thailand.

Predominately Thais.

The guy had a thai wife.

No harm to anyone.

But they have to dob him in.

Shame. Shame, Shame.

It would be good if apprentice Thai journalists use the right expressions because to write "good Samaritan" when it is about delation .. Not exactly the same thing :post-4641-1156693976:
"the neighbor figure in the parable is the man who shows mercy to the injured man — that is, the Samaritan."

Reminder: delation is the national sport in Thailand :annoyed:

You ask too much. I have worked with Thai journalists and not one of them would last a week in the job in the real world.

As it was in France 80 years ago... With a difference though, that the French were reporting the French to foreigners...

Is there a hacker in Thailand able to return this number ( 1178 ) to an unknown destination?

How was the BMW involved???? Couldn't; they have just sent a man round to his house and looked at his passports?

These are some of the dark hours in our history;
and it was in fact much worse because it was the French police who made zeal while the Gestapo did not ask for so much.
