  • My experience with the local people is that they mostly live hand to mouth. Any cash seems it must be spent.

The main place I'd see them is Pattaya beach and they are no longer there, no speedboats early morning, no big queues, it has a nice quieter feel now

sure it's 'quieter' in some parts, but to give you an idea check some of the webcams. I-rovers webcams suggest it's business (busy-ness) as usual in lk metro. still lots of people enjoying the 'pattaya ambience'. can't comment on other towns/ cities except, darkside is same as usual, bang sare / Sattahip/ ban chang/ rayong all seem normal.

The European / Western tourists outnumber the Asian tourists for now. Russians are the biggest grouping, many families. It is reasonably busy and the weather is pleasant too.

It so quiet in Pattata...why you can hear douche water hit the sidewalk when thrown out the window...????

You would not think it much different around the Buakhao area, especially around lunchtime when the traffic seems to get a bit silly. Yes we can sure see the difference on The Beach.

I doubt other Expats are missing them, more likely glad to see the back of them. The reality though is many people are losing all their business and income, and jobs. The overall effect is going to be very negative.

more and more people are cancelling their trips so Buakhao will get quieter, maybe the low of the low seasons, I hope people have a buffer of cash to survive, same in all parts of the world

They do yes, I'm talking about business owners who were struggling anyway plus people working back home who are loosing their jobs

Yes.  There would be hoards of them every morning.   I'm looking out at Pattaya Beach looking north and I see only 3 speedboats docked on the beach where there used to be dozens.  It does have a nice quieter feel now.  The malls still seem to have a good amount of busyness without being so over-crowded.  Driving on the streets not under construction is a lot easier--Dolphin Circle is a breeze.

Ah, how wonderful it must be.  Kinda makes me want to move back there to live.........

The tourists can stay away. I feel nothing for the crying thais. They killed my business in 2011.

I had a staff of 217. Let them grovel, maybe they, the thai folk, can get a government to care for the normal people, or tough TATs...

The biggest change is around Walking Street. It used to be packed most nights with Chinese tours. Now plenty of room for the rest of us. Fewer big coaches as well which is great. Pattaya as it used to be.

No <deleted> buses. Or heaps less. Yippeeeeeeee!!!!

so you mean you can see me walking into Devil's Den?

This was Dongtan Beach last night at 7pm. Normally it would be busy, especially with Russians and Thais. The nearby 7 11s had no Chinese, a local new Chinese restaurant that opened near the beach late last year has now closed. It's like low season has come early.

Just cruised the entire beach road of Jomtien.

Actually a fair share of people at the beach.  All white skin no shame with their speedos/bikinis and big guts. ????

Did not see one Chinese group or any Asians really, except Thai workers.

Saw ya crawling out!

I'm not normally a beach person but that really appeals to me.....I wonder if it will be as pleasant in Aug when I move out!

All of the huge, double decker busses are gone!!  They used to clog up the road from south Pattaya to Jomtien.  It used to be a line of busses parked on THapprya Rd. all the way to Jomtien.  Empty now.

Its like we have suddenly been wisked back to pre-Chinese days.

Walking Street without tour groups is a desolate street.
No tour bus's that transport them make me aware of how many there used to be on the streets.

No tour buses on beach road, no chinese at the beach or in the malls. Very nice. Not many tourists of any country.

A local Temple near us  used to have at least 10/15 tour buses parked every day and hordes of Chinese tourists ,have not seen a bus for weeks ,no Chinese ,all the local stalls have gone.

feel sorry for the stallholders , but apart from that great ,no buses everywhere.

I go for a walk most evenings on the road along Dongtan beach at 7pm, there is never anyone on the beach.

Wow! What happened? That sounds pretty serious.

The influx of Chinese sent you to the wall?
