Anybody else don't care about COVID and ignores it?

Is there anybody left who is not having a complete mental breakdown because of corona? Who is like me going about his normal everyday life?

 

Without making any changes at all? Anybody left?

Feel good, but not sure I am, so I don't want to be a risk for other people.

No - we're sheltering.....

I ride my bike for exercise when the air readings are semi-ok & the temp has dropped in the evenings.....

There's one house with a sala close to the road....The last few days it's had a group (10-12) of Thais eating together fairly loud with cars, motorcys parked around (not neighbors) - last night passing by there was a gal there walking around with her blouse wide open down the front & a nicely packed & very well endowed red bra in full display..... Possibly swapping......I'm guessing they're going about their lives without any social distancing too.....

Hmmm....it's impossible to just live a "normal everyday life."  Many of the things that I normally do is just not available due to closure.  I have no fear of the COVID and I'm definitely not having a mental breakdown.  But my quality of life is suffering for sure.  And it sounds like this will go on until at least the end of April.  I may become an alcoholic by the time this thing runs its course.

It was heartening to note that, whilst there wasn't an egg in sight, our local Tesco had over-stocked the booze aisle.

 

Meanwhile, the only major change we have (I'm not a great one for out and about socialising) is that DIY activities are curtailed. I can still get steel, concrete etc. but things like Conwood tend only to be in stock at the big places and they're shut, at least in greater BKK.

That's the craziness of it.  Even if you want to do work around the house to kill some time, you're severely limited because you can't purchase what you need.  I can buy all the food and booze I want, just not much of anything else.  So correction: I may be a fatty alcoholic when this is all over.  55555

 

Note that my brother in the USA is having the same problem with the lockdown in California, so it's not just a Thailand thing.

No real changes in my day to day as such, my local Cafe for coffee and lunch etc now does take -out so no biggie really, its just the lack of facilities now due to closures if I need to go into town.

I have plenty of wood in stock if I want to play in the workshop.???? bought some pallets to rip apart and reclaim the timber on too.

I'm in big village/small city in North-east Thailand.

 

Changes: about 10% of people are wearing a mask. Tesco checks your temperature. 7/11 employees are wearing masks&gloves. That's it!

 

All shops are open. All business are open. Everything is open. People are going about their normal everyday life. Streets are full. It's only when I check ThaiVisa people are barricading themselves in the houses, raiding food stores and preparing for the end of the world. ????????????

Lucky you.  Chiang Mai is in partial lockdown, so almost everything closed.  I hear BKK, KK, and various other cities are the same.

I'm just taking precautions, shopping almost normally. Can still play golf, can't have a swim. Being an introvert, not particularly concerned about staying in my condo. Plenty of music, reading, TV series and films at my fingertips.

I guess the only way I could have a complete mental breakdown would be by taking on board the opinions of some TV posters.

where I go 90 % are wearing a mask, some shops have a sign outside reading: No Mask - No Entry.

Almost normal where I live in a large village north of Chiang Mai, so that means there's plenty of food in the market. Nobody wears a mask. But the restaurants are doing takeaway. we still go out for long walks and motorbike rides.

 

Wife and I were feeling gloomy about the general situation in Thailand and the world and then last week we decided to treat this period (another month or so probably) as a 'holiday at home'. That change of attitude lifted our spirits. Instead of feeling locked away or that our freedoms had been curtailed, we now think of every new day as another holiday. Amazing really. We immediately started behaving differently, doing new things and smiling again.

 

It helps to live in a house with a big garden and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Maybe not as easy to make the mental leap if you live in a condo in a city. But try it anyway.

There's about one hundred small villages in my Ampaa and about 5 cops so I don't expect much successful enforcement of the shutdown here.Plus there's lot's of space so everyone's not living on top of each other like in the cities,which will mean less transmission.

Going about your everyday life as normal is a danger to others. Try not to think only about yourself.

 

Perhaps go to the US for spring break with all the other kids that dont care, until it happens to them.

 

Im in kuala lumpur, total lockdown. Even if you go out for a jog you can be locked up and fined. I dont like it but the alternative is worse.

 

The risk i get it may be low or may be high, i dont know because testing is not done on everyone to have a complete picture. But i dont want to roll the dice to know whether i survive it or not if i get it.

 

So I hope people do take precautions.

It'd be interesting to know what "going about your normal life" entails.   Are you going out to work or socialising as normal or is your "normal life" one of a hermit who normally has little social contact and would not be affected by the current circumstances?

I am more or less but solitude it what I like anyway, one change at mo is because of C19 my mrs insists she get things I would normally get myself.

There's a military course in Chiang Rai, so far it has stayed open. Perhaps the Governor plays there. I rarely see anybody, hit off at 6.30 am.

Im hangong out at home working as always, feeding the koi for morning coffee, cooking, eating, riding the bike for an hour a day, not much different, except cant swim or wakeboard a few times a week as usual. 

 

They closed the wake parks monday, but I already miss it like crazy.

 

Id be there now if they were open. Sangria is todays substitute.

No change here, I'll be heading out to get some food and supplies in a bit. 

 

I carry a mask in case the mask nazis stop you from entering a store, or if the air is too heavy. Do extra morning exercise to strengthen the immune system.

 

But I also live in a large house with a pool and garden, so I go for swims, play with the pets and kids and listen to the wife play piano. I organise my collection of books on my tablet, download a few more on my favourite site.

 

Otherwise, I try to catch up more with news about coronavirus to have an idea when this totally predictable pandemic which our governments failed to prepare for could be over.

When we moved here a little over 4 years ago in the village in the north-east and built our single level castle, I knew that I needed the house to be as well insulated as possible to keep it cool because we all know how hot it gets here. The builder at the time and my wife said, no need, fortunately for me coming from a country that has 4 seasons and at times in summer can have a peak in the high 40's and I have experienced the 40 pluses here in Thailand, so I paid no attention to either the builder or my wife as I beat my chest to accomplish what I wanted as I was being to be in the house basically 24 hours a day as a retiree. When all was completed, e.g. sisalation, insulation, whirly birds, vented eaves, shade clothes, extended roof areas to shade brick rendered walls, entering the house feels as if an air conditioner is on, being in this environment feels normal until you make the mistake and step outside, W-T-F just hit me.

 

The above said I am glad of my additional outlay, whereby I can sleep at night without breaking a sweat, albeit it on the very hottest of nights, I might run an A/C for 30 minutes then allow the fan to take over for the rest of the night.

 

Has anything changed since the Coronavirus, sure, the wife and I don't go out for lunch at times during the week as we used to, the large shopping centres are a distant memory, of late with the bar closures has kept me in 3 nights a week and I do miss the usual repeat BS, backstabbing gossip as usual, although I do enjoy some of the lads and their stories, and I am taking this as an opportunity to come off the beer, even though I am a small drinker, 9-12 small beers a week, so it's a Vodka and freshly squeezed mandarine at night (one), ok maybe two while I watch some NetFlix to keep my lips moist while adding some vitamin C into the immune system.

 

The mornings are now, as a first this week, time spent sitting on the front porch with the wife, having a couple of cups of short blacks, eating some fruits and watching the greenery that surrounds us while the terrible 4 are still asleep, as we watch the motorbikes ride by, single, two ups, some with babies in the arms of the piilian raised in the air trying to break free from the grip, ah yes, taking in the sights from our front porch.

 

I have to say the kids (4) in all have been enjoying staying in, using the pool, and all the technological devices they can get their hands on, but not before their house chores, yes the time restraints have been lifted as we cannot go anywhere, fortunately we have a complete gym with cardio machine, idle bike, and free and fixed weight machine which get I use every couple of days, the wife now using all and telling me she feels really good with my reply being, der, I have been telling you to swap the hammock under the mango tree for the gym, but you just roll your eyes and go back into your coma.

 

We have discussed our forward thinking with regard to holding the kids back when school commences unless there is a vaccine readily available and we are aware that, it could take a year to 18 months, and if that is the case, well so be it, we do not want it as I have a pre-existing condition albeit it I do feel fit, but I do not want to be challenged, so will do what it takes to avoid it, but if I do get it, well, will have to address it there and then.

 

In the meantime we just have to sit out the storm, as the sun will break through the clouds once again and everything will go back to norm, with or without some of us, life goes on.
