Would that mean any BMW built or assembled outside of Dingolfing (Bravaria) not fit for the BMW name? BMW’s are also assembled in the UK, Austria, China, USA etc etc etc....    The ‘loc

Where was it assembled, LOS or Germany or........

Is it a 2020 model..

In the UK, model years can start the year before....My Volvo did...

If it was assembled in Germany it would have taken a few months to get delivered by sea.

Wait for a 2020 then if it's that important unless you can get a good price deal on the motor.

Remember in UK use to get good new car deals before August 1st with most people thinking the important's of a number plate. ????

So less than 3 weeks to have it ready?

Obviously a model from the inventory.

No way being shipped or and unlikely made to order.

Now you have to find out how old it actually is (in months)?

Has there been a new model release/upgrade compared to the car that has been supplied?

What parts would deteriorate in such a (short) time frame at an unused car?

This refers to ordering a new BMW in Germany where each little detail of the car is individually put together from a large catalog of options.

When I bought my car (no BMW) in 2011 there was a choice of four main variants and a couple of colors.

And that was it.

What exactly did you order?

In May in 2018 I bought a new European motorcycle. It was manufactured in 2017 and the 2018 model had basically no changes. So no problem. And the dealer told me before I paid.

You should know what exactly you ordered. Something like "a new M3" is no sufficient answer.

Yes, my 1988 760 Volvo Estate was registered in I think October 1987, but it was the 1988 model, now the 1988 model went totally computerised and some body stuff was a bit different, my 1987 registered was 100% a 1988 model......Loved that car....????

In Thailand, the year of the car is based on the date of manufacture; this is how it will appear in your Green book.  If you want to buy a car that will be registered as a 2020, it must be manufactured in 2020.  You could decline this car and opt for another if you're not in a hurry as there might be a waiting list.

the car come from Germany and is assembled in Thailand i understand that, but if the manufacture in thailand order the new car parts in Decembre, they can sell the new year car in March, any way the dealer give me  big discount and i take the new 2019 BMW ,

but i really like to get a 2020 car, a 6 month new car all ready loose valus.

Most people buying BMW and Benz built in Thailand don't even know that they are buying lower quality cars...

Only buy imported from Germany.

Happy to be corrected but it was understanding they are CKD builds but to qualify for local tax breaks there has to a percentage of local content (40% comes to mind).

For some vehicles that I know are CKD (not BMW) its stuff like interior/exterior plastics/interior trim/fuel tanks/brakelines/ etc etc etc...

They feel just the same to sit in on the side of the road broken down lol

Acetia make most of the Robots. Dont suppose a Robot cares if hes in Germany or Thailand. Herman the German does the same as Old Nop. Looks forward to going Home.

Problem is the local content quality is Thai standard. Its not a full BMW but a TMW.

Reputations last a long time.

A Thai friend bought his Merc ML, I asked why Merc, his answer that it was stronger and better than a Japanese car because the steel flexes more on the bodywork of the Japanese car, ergo the Merc is safer.

Perhaps he was right, but his preconceptions were flawed and based on dated opinions.

Is there really any difference in where a car is manufactured these days? I'm not so sure.

------

On the topic of MY of the car based on the vin. Its a common misconception that MY stands for Manufactured Year, it stands for Model Year. Cars are also dated with build date.

Thus, if the Op has requested a car from 2020 it may not be possible as the model year is MY19 and thats all there is available until the next ‘face lift’.

This could be a case of requesting something without understanding the specify and then getting hung up on a detail.

That said - if the Op wants a 2020 car, he has to specify Build Year, in which case he may well have to wait a while longer.

This Aussie site explains this: https://www.motorama.com.au/blog/buyer-advice/what-is-the-difference-between-build-date-compliance-date-and-model-year/

The ‘local content quality’ is just a Thai bash - A UK, US, China, Thai made model of the same car would be indistinguishable*

*Thats an assumption - we’d need to line up the same model from different factories (different countries) and drive them for a few years to actually see if there is any difference.
