Opportunity in the US? Think you'll make it big here? lmao this is the biggest line of sh*t fed to people all around the world.   The only opportunity that exists here is if you come with a ton of cash to invest into a business ($1 mil+) , otherwise your opportunities are the same as poor people anywhere else in the world, except you'll spend the majority of your paycheck on extremely bloated rental costs and overpriced goods, food, healthcare, insurance, and if you have get to a car accident or have a medical issue without insurance, you are f***** six ways from Sunday.  Leaving this dump as soon as I'm able, don't come here.

The only thing you'll make big in the USA is your waistline eating all the Cr*p junk food that proliferates their diet.

It's a country in a big mess where the WASP's get rich and the minorities are trapped in the Ghetto's.

Worst of all it's headed by a twerp with the arrogance of the Captain of the Titanic regards Coronavirus.

I know, and in fact, have friends & family that started with a shoe string budget & now have large business, even constructing their own building/complexes.....

We hop in/hop out RVing when there....We don't see embittered, down trodden people there.....

I've thought about buying a piece of land as an RV home base - but then there's the upkeep/repairs, insurance, security, taxes, etc. to worry about + being tied down.....

Well class mobility in the US isn't the best and it isn't the worst either. But most Americans still seem to buy the myth that the USA is number 1 in that regard. It may have been in the past when peasant immigrants could get a big free land grant. But now it has among the most severe levels of inequality in the world. There is a massive underclass and levels of incarceration that you would expect in an authoritarianism dictatorship. Also the lack of a national health care system is a national shame. Oh well!

How much does a self employed plumber, electrician or roofer earn?

Its not longer about which country you live in but what skill set you have.

Don’t be too upset…a lot of people expect success to be handed to them and never figure out how to work for it.

Your experience does not seem to square with the millions of legal and illegal immigrants looking for opportunities unavailable in their home countries.

You come to America looking for a handout?  Hard work, perseverance and a good work ethic are still in vogue in the US...

Simple. One man's meat is another man's poison. So, if you don't like a place move, someone else will take your place. Nature will not leave any blank places...

I think the OP's message really is....

"Stay outa my country, I like it just the way it is"

Opening your own business can be challenging lots of regulations, but there are plenty of opportunities beyond that to make a great life.   It can be very competitive so if one lacks education, is non energetic and has poor communication skills getting a good job can be difficult.

They can make a lot.  Plumbers and electricians are considered skilled labor and some are unionized. They mostly need required training and experience and $100,000 a year is attainable.  Roofers can make a good living especially if they are connected to a home warranty company.  $50 an hour is not that unusual for these services.

Amen to that. I’m looking to get my elite visa in a couple years and stay here as long as I can working from home. The USA is a <deleted>ty, rotten place, and I say this as an American who served in the coast guard for years. The state of the USA is embarrassing, with rampant obesity, opioid abuse thanks to big pharma mega corporations raking in money and profiting from the death of thousands of overdose and addiction victims, extreme wealth inequality and wage slavery.... I could go on, but I won’t.

I live like a king here and get treated well by the Thais. In my experience, some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, there’s no reason for me to go back to Burgerland.

I used to think the US was the place to be, but since visiting dozens of times for vacation and work I’m now of the view that it’s only good for tourism. Who wants to work all year and feel guilty if you take the 10 days vacation you get from your employer, who can can you anytime they like. Nope, I agree with the OP, you can keep it.

My folks and family came to America from Denmark in 1950. So much has changed since then. I still believe as did my father that the USA is the greatest. I've traveled the world but haven't traveled the USA since my teens.

I believe if you're lazy, you'll fail regardless of where you live.

With such negativity from the OP,  Maybe that's not such a bad idea

Your folks and family made a huge mistake.  I hope you could get a Danish passport so you could get away from here.

You don't get it do? Me, I believe the US is still truly the greatest. Sure it has faults but it's still awesome.

The so called and touted freedom is also freedom to fail. That is never advertised. ????

Please tell that to the millions wanting in the US, I wonder why they want in so badly hmmmm?
