Will immigration be open on May 1?

Featured Replies

Hi,

They stamped my passport with under consideration stamp (second time) to come back again on May 1, but some Thai person told me don't go that date coz the office would be closed.

Any ideas?

If that's the case, why they write that date on my passport?

Thanks in advance.

Immigration closed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

And probably closed 6th, so 5th at risk too !

Because the times that you are allotted do not adjust for holidays. They are essentially recording the date of expiration of an extension of stay, or whatever. Holidays have no bearing on that date. It is up to the foreigner to account for this. You could argue that it would be nice of them to mention the overlap to you, but that is expecting a lot from an IO.

So as another poster has said...it is your job to realise when you must check in with immigration, this includes taking into account holidays or other special days. So this is entirely your mistake.

Having said that why not just go tomorrow (Thurs 30th). Then your problem is solved.

It's my mistake to put that date on my PP? ok..

Of course I will go tomorrow, that's why I am asking about it.

So I think the last 2 posts have answered your initial question. If it was me, I would just say thanks for the clarification (but that's just me).

Good luck tomorrow.

This is an irritating situation for you. You need to go tomorrow, but do not be surprised if they say it is too early and force you to return on the next date the office is open.

OP is absolutely fine to go to immigration on the NEXT working day after the stamped date, if the stamped date falls on a weekend or a public, religious or other holiday where immigration is closed.  In such a case, there is NO late fine.

OP FYI today (30th April 2020) I attended Chiang Rai Immigration for a similar reason to check that they would be open tomorrow (1st May 2020).   They WILL be open tomorrow for normal business, however, they have signs up stating they will be closed on the 4th and 6th May.   They also have signs saying they be open for business on the 5th May.   Good luck wherever it is you have to go.

Wrong as can be.

4, 6, 11 and that's it (as seen above).

Definitely no "long weekends" at times of Covid.

The OP didn't say for which Immigration

but no doubt that Pattaya Immigration will be close on 2nd and 3rd, as every Saturday & Sunday.

A bit surprised it will be open on Labour Day, but that's my only mistake.

Why would it be closed May 5th? May 11th is also a public holiday.

Fellow poster is at Phuket Immigration now, open and no queues.

Didn't want to insult you, sorry.

I was at the district town yesterday.

Same observation as last year: DLT (motor vehicle) open (although very empty), Amphoe (district office) open (and quite busy).

Post office closed. ToT office closed.

It's a "working class" holiday
