Security for Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has been stepped up after an incident on Monday morning when his motorcade, travelling from his home to Government House, was chased by a private car, the driver of which occasionally sounded its horn, in an apparent show of discontent.

Government House sources said that Special Branch police have been ordered to find the driver of the aquamarine-coloured Honda Accord, who chased the Prime Minister’s convoy as it was travelling on the expressway towards the Yommaraj exit.

The sources said that the driver did not just repeatedly sound the car’s horn, but also tried to get close to the Prime Minister’s chauffeur-driven car while flashing its headlights.

I think the General must be getting nervous with the present state of affairs. A reaction is likely in the near future

I was hoping this might have turned into a Bullit style car chase around the expressways of Bangkok with the 'cade crashing into Gov' house at the end .. but the aquamarine Honda soon put paid to that ..

When you take the job of a PM of 70 million people, one should prepare to deal with some are are bound to show their displeasure and discontent in every which way, and as long as thailand is a democracy, those unhappy will continue to show it...

He is treated like any other head of State. Do you believe any of those in a position of power drive themselves to and from, and do not have security teams providing an escort wherever they go. If you do you live on another planet. A long time ago it might have been needed but with people who try and do stupid things to these people well tgats why they are escorted. Now, with saying that, not everyone working for the government needs an escort, only those who are in a position to do the work necessary to assist the people.

Yeah, the Honda Accord is a dangerous weapon. Jail everyone with one!

It's actually rather encouraging that a private citizen felt able to show his (or maybe her) discontent in this way. For all our criticisms, at the end of the day it's a very soft regime, as regimes go, though I guess Mr. Wanchalerm might think different, but I assume that was down to some rogue elements and not officially sanctioned.

I think a certain very senior member of the military is rubbing his hands in anticipation of being set loose and having his own shot at the title.

This sounds very serious. Maybe time for a Mercedes upgrade for his motorcade.

Sounds to me that his security detail failed if, as the OP suggests the persuing car got clise to the PM.

Just surprised (if that is the case) that they have made this fuss broadcasting the fact.

Any decent security team would have had the Honda driver out and taken away in no time...but TiT.

You could be right. The problem is that he is not a head of state.

Maybe a jealous boyfriend of they BK48 group by chance?  BK48 is backing the student's bid for free speech, so they are no longer on his side.

Not wise to advertise this non-event.

So let’s see…here we have the brave, valiant, noble, warrior….

With hundreds of thousands of soldiers, billions upon billions worth of weaponry, hundreds of 24/7 close protection bodyguards, an absurdly expensive armored limo, etc etc….

Sitting in a puddle, crying with fear and running in panicked terror for his life…

Because someone driving a Honda is….”occasionally sounding his horn” at him.

A true soldier....and a fearless leader.

Maybe he'll award himself another medal.

H'ed be a shiver looking for a backbone.

The PM's motorcade probably buzzed the Honda from behind while he was speeding along in the outside lane and pushed him out of the way. Honda driver, feeling king of the road, was well <deleted> off and gave chase to try to overtake them, not realising who the occupant was.

First one to fall will be Lukashenko followed by Prayut, after that Duerte or fat boy Kim Jung-un, probably fat boy as the country is broke and eating pet dogs!

Fatty's country is broke ever since but as long as he always finds some NGO or terrorist run country to help him out, this **** just stays there. Or it's just politics to not take him out. Who wants to deal with millions of N-Koreans ? Germany is still paying for their Eastern "brothers"

this vexes me. who on earth would want to cause harm to our great leader ?

I did not see anything in that article indicating they were trying to harm anyone - just bother them and express anger or dissatisfaction.

A bit of an anti-climax but other news is saying that the Accord driver was simply p-off that the convoy cut him off.
