My friend told me better not come to thailand this year as the COVID-19 made

it much more dangerous, more crime, robberies and assaults that goes unreported.

What do you think?

No tourist visas being issued. Not visa exempt entries. Only specific groups of foreigners let in and these with huge hoops, delays and then 14 days quarantine on arrival.

Me and my buddies have had no issues, just stay aware & dress for the occasion, get the occasional strange look, but who cares

Underreporting in these social media days is only very, very limited possible.

Crime always increases as poverty and unemployment rises. Fortunately Thailand is fairly safe in terms of muggings and street crime so as long as you behave yourself you are generally OK, but I think it makes sense to remain vigilant as people become more desperate, especially in tourist areas.

With gold costing 30,000 per Baht, I wouldn't be strutting around like Medallion Man for a while.

until fully opened in december, the world cannot stay closed forever.

Very true, especially in the English media, Thai media reports more of what is actually happening.

But nobody trusts the MSM to tell us the truth anymore do they? ????

If your thinking of visiting tourist places, be prepared to find a hell of a lot of shops and bars to be closed down.

I saw some photos of Phuket the other day, like a ghost town, quite depressing, lots of shops boarded up, stripped etc etc.

If it were me and I was looking for a quiet time to relax in the hotel, go to the beach and walk through Jungceylon which is very empty according to the photos, then it would suit me down to the ground, providing I could find some of my old favorite restaurants to eat and get my happy ending, I mean massages.

Be prepared for a very different place when you return so early in October, if they allow tourists back in, which I doubt, maybe Xmas or early 2021.

The "experts" are full of beans.

Mass tourism isn't coming back to Thailand anytime soon.

Thailand is not and has never been dangerous in a life-threatening way as for example some African and South American nations. Sure, you may die in a car accident, but you are a lot more likely to get mugged on the streets of London or Paris than Bangkok.

I believe that petty crimes (such as theft) will increase if this continues for a long time. Is that dangerous? That's for you to decide.

Personally I have not seen any signs of it getting more dangerous so far. Who knows what the future brings.

The most dangerous things in Thailand are the roads,

keep off them and you will be OK,

I live in a small and safe village where everyone seems to know each other. Recently one of my wife's friends got burgled during the daytime, cash and jewellery was taken, and my wife goes around the house now locking the windows at night so it appears that something is going on.

I think it will get a lot worse in the coming months but as others have said assaults/muggings are still very rare, but opportunistic theft is something to be aware of.

I'm no expert, but even I can see the chances on any international travel this year is unlikely.

There you go, so the op's 'friend' was right! Stay behind that curtain op, it's like the wild west here now, I'm not leaving the house unless I really have to!

Just think of 'all' that money you're saving, Brit me old china..

I am sure a lot depends on the area. I live in the tourist area of Sukhumvit. It is a lot quieter than usual but I don't think there is more crime here - at least I am not aware of it.

One reason might be that people without money will move away from expensive tourist areas.

I guess the situation in Pattaya will be different...

We get on well and with their wives. Looks good if they have a party and a farang is there.

Haven't really heard anything much. It will likely get worse as economic situation goes from bad to worse and the protests get bigger.

I don't think Thailand is anymore dangerous crime wise than before COVID.  We have traveled about in Thailand the last two months and haven't noticed any increased danger.  Walked from Asoke BTS to Nana Son 4 on Wednesday eve and very quiet.  No T shirts sales but lots of toy and kamagra street-side vendors.  The most danger we face is driving the back to our house 2 hours up country which hasn't changed a bit.

I'm sure you are correct, but I doubt crime figures would back you up in terms of assaults etc on farangs. There aren't enough farangs here to molest.
