Why can't Thailand be like Singapore

Featured Replies

Come September 1st, Singapore will allow certain tourists from countries Like Brunei and New Zeland to enter its borders without any restrictions.Only need a Covid-swap at the airport and that's it.

Other countries like China,Malaysia can enter and observe a 7day SHN instead of 14days.That's something the Junta here should take note of and follow suit.

Well that will be Singapore out of the financial doldrums, with the arrival of the big spending kiwi contingent ????????

Because Thai people have been told to fear the virus at all costs.  Look at the madness that unfolded from a single case in Rayong, mass cancellations and local shutdowns.

This is an effective measure employed by the government to ensure that the emergency decree can continue being enforced for their own benefit as needed.

Well, I think we know by now, the extreme lack of sensible policies we are seeing are NOT about common sense, the application of reason, and compassion for the people in need. And more about blind cowardice, timidity, fear, a lack of vision, and a pathological desire to hold onto power. Don't expect much creative juice from this army.

I have hidden the duplicate topic which was started by the same member a few minutes after this topic was started.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Well, Singapore wants all tourists to wear a tagging device.

Singapore to make travellers wear electronic tags to enforce quarantine

Thailand just started considering tourists to install an app on their phone, and the forum went straight in fire and flame.

So you want Thailand to be same as Singapore?

What do you mean with SHN?

What benefits does the government derive from the measures instituted under the emergency decree?

I am aware only of an enormous loss of tax revenue.

The ability to quell any dissent from the student populations and protests as they please.

That's like asking "Why can't a turd taste like cheesecake?" ????

Or why they don't make turd flavored cheesecakes.

It's all in your attitude...  Every place has its pros and cons.  You can focus on the good, or on the turds.  I've found that one makes for better peace of mind- no matter where I am.

What exactly is the complaint here? Aside from Brunei and New Zealand, what is so different? If anything , Thailand is more generous on the entry of foreigners who have a residency visa.

Big deal, Singapore will allow New Zealand and Brunei nationals to enter.

Did the OP consider that these people will still be subject to new Zealand and Brunei rules when they  go home? The OP ignores reality with his complaint;

1. Size & Population;  Singapore- 5.6 million in 724 sq. km and Thailand is 66 million in 513,000 sq. km.  It is a lot easier to keep track of a few people in a city state than it is in a  big country like Thailand.

2. Visitor Demographics; Singapore  is a destination for the wealthy. The people who visit are typically well educated have  health insurance and/or the means to care for themselves if they  become ill or injured. They are most likely to  very compliant and take extra precautions.   This is different than Thailand. Many of the  complaining foreigners who want in, are  not of the same quality as those who go to Singapore. Based upon the posts and threads one sees in TVF, many of the farangs pushing to enter Thailand are less likely to support the disease prevention policies such as mask wearing.

Thailand's  policy reflects the precautions needed for the type of people who would seek entry.

A lot of connecting flights go to Singapore.  You need connecting flights before you can get to Thailand.  To put a new spin on an old saying, It's checkers not chess.  NZ is a direct flight to Singapore so that's probably one of the reasons they are allowing it.  It would not make sense to allow people from a country that can't get a connecting flight to Singapore anyways.

Because it is run by utter numpties and never had the benefit and wisdom that colonialism would bring. Thailand will let people in eventuality when they realise how much they are losing out/that this is never going away/that having hundreds of thousands on the streets demanding change is not a good thing.

To maintain protection for the rich upper echelon of Thai society and keep their snouts firmly embedded in the trough!

The last place I would want Thailand to be like is Singapore.

The places in Thailand most severely effected are tourist areas such as Pattaya and Phuket etc...people visit these places predominately to party...mix that in with the hoards of Chinese crammed in buses and restaurants....is it really a good idea to allow tourists back in at present...lifting the present restrictions, the virus would spread like wildfire, the archaic health system would collapse..then the population/students would be demonstrating the Government has not handled the situation correctly....We all know, self isolating, social distancing dosnt work unless strictly overseen....I personally don't want to go back to curfews and business closures just so the point of allowing tourists back can be proven it isn't a good idea at present.

No clue why the OP declined to offer any news links...

Nor why anyone from New Zealand would elave to go to Singapore when they would face challenges returning home?

I guess if the OP wants Thailand to accept tourists (both of them?) from these two countries, then OK.

Eight ASEAN countries remain closed, maybe 8.5 if you factor in this Singapore thing?

For travellers from Brunei Darussalam and New Zealand

For travellers entering Singapore and who have remained in either Brunei Darussalam or New Zealand in the last consecutive 14 days prior to their entry:

Apply for an Air Travel Pass (ATP) between 7 and 30 days before their intended date of entry into Singapore
Are not required to serve a Stay-Home Notice (SHN)
Undergo a COVID-19 test upon arrival, and continue their activities in Singapore if the test is negative
Should they require medical treatment for COVID-19, they will be responsible for their medical bills

Seems strange that Thailand was NOT included in the new 7-day catgeory:

For travellers from other low-risk countries

For travellers from other low-risk countries, such as Australia (excluding Victoria State), Macao, Mainland China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Malaysia:

The SHN duration will be shortened from 14 days to 7 days.
Travellers will be allowed to serve their SHN at their place of residence, and undergo a COVID-19 test at the end of their SHN.
All other incoming travellers will continue to serve their 14-day SHN at dedicated SHN facilities, and undergo a COVID-19 test before the end of the SHN.

Singapore to allow general travel to Brunei, New Zealand from Sept

General travel to Brunei and New Zealand will be allowed from Sept 1, but travellers should not simply hop on a plane to these destinations, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said yesterday.

"Please check what are the requirements of the destination countries and make sure you comply with the requirements before you fly over," Mr Gan said during a virtual press conference.

Well to be honest Thailand did want tourists to go to the prisons. So is wearing a ankle monitor like being on house arrest and treated like your on parole, well of course it is. I for one have no need or want to be treated like a criminal.
