STV: Not a single Chinese person actually applied for a special visa - TAT supplied "list of names"

So there never was any flight cancellation, because there never were any passengers...which explains, by the way, why no refund was offered to the (virtual) visitors.

One wonder why foreigners would accept to jump through so many (expensive) hoops in order to go in holiday, especially the Chinese who don't lack places to visit within their own country.

The TAT has to understand that a door, border in this case, is either opened or closed, but it can't be both at the same time...

It's also very revealing that if you go through all the hoops and expense, then the Thai Govt cancel, you won't get your money back!  Who is going to waste their money and time like that?

Your plan is even more nonsensical than that of TAT.

You want to give free visas, and pay large sums, to the world's wretched and destitute to live in Thailand as an answer to the dearth of a viable tourist industry. The idea is to bring money in, not give it to beggars.

The world's wretched and destitute? ???? I didn't know that Somalian pirates, Liberian lepers and Bangladeshi beggars are amongst us in the guise of tourists.

It must be hot today under the solar topi, sahib. ????

Probably...cheaper to bus their "Potemkin" tourists to Pattaya from TAT's Bangkok office than fly them to Phuket.

"Pattyemkin" tourism. Next up crowds of inflatable tourists on the beaches. (With authentic radar signatures)

39M tourists (2019...not so long time ago) disagree with you...and as an aside, every tourist I've spoken to during their stays has said they were having a wonderful time and would definitely come back.

It's a great success. They have managed to keep the borders closed for tourists while appearing to do something. Face gained - domestically. In the real world this farce is comedy gold.

Indeed, of all the things they've done this year this is by far the most successful.

The goal being to discourage and deter people from coming, this is proof of the ultimate success, I never in my wildest dreams imagined that they could achieve zero applications. Promotions all around.

As I posted on Thursday:

"I doubt that anyone was screwed over.

I suspect the flight and luxury detention cells were made available, and they expected to have them fully booked by the great day of the arrival.

But nobody booked."

I can't really say that this latest twist surprises me. Too many lies, too many times!

Just show how arrogant and conceited these people are,to think the whole world is waiting to come to Thailand on holiday and will do anything to get there.

A telling reveal of the appetite of travellers who may wish to come to Thailand. Was it the onerous paperwork, Covid-19 tests or the quarantine that put people off? Here lies a lesson for the Thai authorities if they think that huge numbers of "tourists" can't wait to return to Thailand. Better for the Thai authorities to first allow all long term visa (non-immigrant or extension) holders to return under easy terms. Tourism for fun is not going to happen for at least another year.

Maybe someone lost face as the alleged passenger's were supposed to be CP group executive's.

I agree with you let us stranded ones back with better conditions

If an entry fee was Paid to cover all including tourists when they start back, then this fund could be brokered by their own Insurance companies and cover hospital fees for accident and C19.

The country would be better for it.

NZ has one called ACC.

I would not mind paying 200 dollars on entry and if your long Stay you could pay again when you renew your visa. This would create a huge pool of funds that could improve Thailand's hospitals and benefit Thai people.

Instead of this money grabbing lolly scramble by the insurance industry that is likely blackmail and overpriced rip off and will drive tourists away.

LOL so they really didn’t have any people scheduled to come it was just a bunch of names on a list of maybes or people that were interested ridiculous Crazy TIT

Why would these cashed up tourists of yours require large cash payouts from Thailand?

Thanks for the informed personality assessment and words of advice about my personal life. I am curious as to how you judge my activities today as that was my first post of the day.

Actual humour from funny people is usually recognisable as such even for someone of my limited abilities.

Wow. I rest my case your honor. Defense has just proved my point.

Thai governmental confusion as always....

The people that MUST come back will and the real tourists will go someplace else: Vietnam, Cambodia, Bali, Siri Lanka.... etc

curious asks...where are all the bus loads of Chinese people coming from, are they repatriated Thai people on their way to 14 days quarentine in Pattaya?

Seeing as there is no Tourism or return of long term visa holders .perhaps a long holiday for the TAT .?

But would they come back with the stringent rules now in place. I really have to question your read on those tourists. Are they wishing to return back into the insane asylum of quarantine and excess fees and then from a half to several millions deposited into an account just to stay here again for a short time. I believe you are wrong on those accounts.

So maybe we should send 120 Thai tourist [heavenly discounted] to China just to reminded them to get on the plane. Civid-19 sometimes make people forget.

The thing is, because of their skin color, you can't tell if a Thai has a red face or not, but i'm sure that there are more than a few and some even with eggs on their faces...

They don't mind. You can't lose face if its hidden behind eggs ????????????

There will be no interest from China, until the economy has collapsed completely. After all, business is business.

In the meantime, thousands of medical scientists including Noble prize winners have determined that lockdowns are useless and cost more lives than the virus.

Even the WHO is distancing itself fromn the lockdowns.

The rules for returning expats are mostly enough to forget returning.

The ones wanting to come back have family or a condo/house over here.

Most annoying is the health insurance, this is only there to make the insurance companies happy, the insurance is quite useless.

Some one stated that this giyu had a Thai smirk that should not be trusted when first came on the scene.

HE WAS absolutely correct!!!!

Of course none signed up.  No normal tourist tourist is going to do a 14 day quarantine.  Madness to be wasting time on these ridiculous, useless schemes.  Maybe they are just pretend schemes to show pretend work being done.  Look!  Here's another very complicated scheme we have come up with!  A LOT of work for us, I tell you!  Phew!  We are really working!

I've gone as a tourist many places but none of the trips lasted 14 days.  Most of the trips were 7 to 12 days and some were only 4 or 5 days.  When my 4 sisters came to visit me here in Thailand a couple years ago from America they were here for 12 days.  I wanted them to stay longer but that was the maximum time they could be gone.  If they visited now their entire trip would be in quarantine.

However, some long stays, which are not tourists, would put up with a 14 day quarantine because they plan to be here for months, not days.  Start with getting them back right now with free 1 or 2 year visas--and, without all the ridiculous hoops to jump over.  Make it very simple and maybe you might actually get some people applying.

Although I note the acronym SNAFU originated within the US military during WWII, Wikipedia uses a picture of Thailand as its reference. ????

TAT will have to encourage a few (maybe many) more temples to be built, to attract quality, high net worth tourists.   Free temple buffets and curbside tp dispensers will seal the deal for the coveted tourists they seek.  ????

... sounds logical, won't work here!

Also they will want to keep up the squeeze until all kind of longstayers - a good part of them a captive audience anyway - will have either paid up or said 'no thanks' ...

here we were thinking 1200 tourists per month was a measly amount, but in reality they can't even find 10% of that number wanting to visit...
