Also,why would tourists come,when their Governments have probably issued do not travel notices to Thailand because of political unrest?

Self Inflicted,they could have let the Covid free tourists that were already in the country stay,and also let the retiree's that spend a lot of money in Supermarkets,restaurants,bars and golf courses back in as a priority,after having lived in Thailand for many years it does not surprise me that they dont,as Thailand works on reverse logic compared to normal Farang/European logic.

I think this is where TAT gets its figures of Chinese tourist spending power from. Combine the spend of Chinese business people who come here to buy condos with suitcases of cash and the spend of zero baht tourists and you have an average of high spend of Chinese tourists. TAT have always had a problem with differentiating between true tourists and others. They even include those transferring through a Thai airport as "tourists to Thailand".

Wish they'd make their minds up. They had tourists who stayed a long time and all they did was hound them. In their minds real tourists stayed a week or two, once a year. Anyone who stayed "for a long time" was accused of abusing tourist visas and often refused entry at airports and told they were no longer bona fide tourists and to get the appropriate visa.

And the next batch are also from China, does anybody actually understand why any country would entertain people fro the country where the Pandemic actually started. They've certainly, finally, found an easy excuse to weed out the undesirables... Force a $2000 hotel stay. Of which I'm sure they take a hefty cut. People cashing in on Covid like there's no tomorrow. Stay scared, stay tuned.

If its all about the money I would argue the VOA max 30 day visitors spend a lot more money and more scheduled flights pay more airport taxes etc. But they don't what that now apparently and thats where the questions start....

The average Chinese tourist stays, on average, one to two weeks in Thailand. Chinese staying up to 6 months, definitely not tourists.

 

So the headline couldn't have got it more wrong. "Thailand welcomes back tourists", not welcome and not tourists.

particularly for Chinese tourists as they still remember who brought Covid to Thailand in the first place. They are actually feared not welcomed.

Presumably the ones that have arrived wont be travelling as a group once quarantine is over as we all know that groups of five or more aren't allowed under the emergency rules. Or are those "rules" only applied selectively?

 Quality Tourist who stay a long time!  Not us farangs on long stay visas who rent houses and spend a considerable amount of money.

i spend 8 months a year In Thailand but probably won’t be able

to get back because I’m from USA.  I know most people are jealous that they’re not from USA but it is what it is.  I live in a county that has only 10 deaths.  Oh well I’ll just keep stacking up mucho bucks and then take advantage of good deals due to Thailand ruining people’s lives
