Click "like" on ads and get free money - Foreigners and Thais fall victim in massive online swindle

Dozens of victims of an online investment swindle went to Pattaya police yesterday to register complaints.

 

There were both foreigners and Thais who fell for the scam.

 

They believed that all they had to do was send money, play a few games and click like on ads then they would get 6% on their investment. 

 

You could put down just 500 baht for starters - but the more you invested the more profit could be made, the fraudsters on the foreign based site claimed.

 

Sirawan, 36 was one victim who spoke to Naew Na. After friends introduced her to the site in November she invested 1,000 baht and got her interest and was able to withdraw the money.

 

So she ramped up the ante and put in 5,000 baht but soon it emerged she could only remove part of her stake.

 

Then by February 3rd came a request for 10,000 baht and a promise for even more riches. 

 

By February 8th the website had disappeared and so had her and her friends' money.

 

Laksaman, 33, said he invested 20,000 baht in January and after getting 3,000 baht interest went for a 100,000 baht then 400,000 baht stake. 

 

By 9th of February he had lost everything too.

 

Thai admins were assigned to each 500 investors and 28 groups were operating on Line. 

 

There are thought to be 10,000 victims all over Thailand. 

 

In Pattaya there are 200 victims and 70 have so far reported to police.

 

Losses total in the hundreds of millions of baht nationwide. 

 

Pol Lt-Col Phitak Nernsaeng took the complaints yesterday as the investigation began. 

 

Elsewhere in the Thai media it was reported that 100 victims of the scam went to the police on Koh Samui yesterday.

 

They reported that the fraudsters were claiming to be part of the Huanxun E-Commerce Co Ltd group of stores.

 

Based in Hong Kong it was claimed there were links to popular platforms like Lazada, Shoppee and Amazon. 

 

Victims reported similar modus operandi and losses in which people clicked on ads in a kind of "wheel of fortune" that ultimately left them penniless. 

 

Money disappeared from investors last week after initial gains were paid sucking the gullible in to invest more. 

 

The media published what appeared to be a screenshot of something that said "Shopping Mall - a way to get unlimited riches".

Foreigners and Thais fall victim, Fools the lot of them.

Some people are so gullible, it would'nt be too hard to snare the greedy, would it? ???? Come in spinner's, boy, have I got a deal for you!

It's sad that there are people nasty enough to rip innocent people off of their hard earned cash, but even sadder that people can be so stupid as to fall for something that is so very obviously fraudulent.

The instant you see "just send money" you KNOW it's a scam.

That some are so desperate or greedy for "easy money" and become so gullable in their quest for the easy money is astonishing and very sad.

 

Another Ponzi scheme variant.

Most human beings are greedy. That's why scams work.

This is so crazy. Every day we hear of such rip offs so you would think that people would wise up and stop falling for them.

It is hard to find sympathy for people who have lost money through being greedy and dumb.

i have been running a similar scam for decades. 

 

after you have sex with me 100 times we will get married. 

 

one of the reasons i had to leave the US. 

How many times have we read about people getting scammed

The usual you can make easy  money and people fall for it

The worst thing is people don't learn  when reading stories like this regularly 

It will happen again its peoples nature to try and make easy money

Especially here in Thailand at this time when a lot of people don't have jobs

No chance getting that money back, it's gone out of the country

Another lot getting scammed, it's really too easy to take money off

people,just offer them returns which cannot possibly be feasible,

There is no free money! That people haven´t learned that yet, is good commercial for the high stupidity semms to be on.

Why go to the police?! Solving a problem involves first admitting you HAVE a problem, and your problem(s) are greed and stupidity. Don’t drag the cops in on your personal problems. Don’t take them away from more pressing issues... like who to shake down next.

Why, oh why, do these gullible fools keep falling for these scams.

Is it Greed ? lack of Education ? or just simply the need to have some kind of thrill in their lives.

If the latter is the case, go Bungy Jump.

Its time internet providers put in more security on people to prove who they are. 

 

Its sad that anyone can run a scam and be that anonymous.

 

I in no way blame the victims for being naive or gullible.
