IMHO Pattaya wont pick up until (perhaps) Q4 this year or sometime next year.

No more than the rest of us you don’t know. Pattaya and Thailand will “pick up” when tourists are allowed in without quarantine and many conditions .

They must also be allowed to travel from their own country without having to quarantine on their return. It is now worse than ever before in so far as many countries will not allow you to leave and go on holiday and fines are being handed out for even attempting to leave the country .

Is all that going to be finished by Qtr4 ... I hope so . I miss Thailand badly.

  • I am glad you said "When" the tourists come.   Firstly they have to get some sort of visa and all the other travel documents required. Next they need to find an airline that is flying betwee

At home, yes, for sure.

You can shout and swing from your Mia noi’s chandelier as much as you like but Pattaya is officially dead. Nid noi life from residing ferangs in Soi Bukkake and LM but quite dead...live with it.

I am waiting for the 3 day Chinese New Year holiday this weekend

Where we will read the hotels restaurants and bars were over flowing with customers from Bangkok who are out for a good time having alcohol

Available as no bars ect open in Bangkok

It was only yesterday that you reported that Thailand had recieved fewer tourists in the past 6 months than ONE SINGLE DAY pre covid fake news crip.

Add to this the fact that most of the regular would-be tourists have been unemployed for a year (bosses too) so it will take another full year after reentering the work force before even thinking about taking a vacation.

Maybe the rich, retired "expatayians" will keep 10-12 bars afloat for another year.

A fair few of we regulars are retired, so that doesn't apply - sadly most of what @billd766 said does apply

Do you know them as May 1 and May 2?

Isn't May 1 a public holiday - so to speak?

Or May B 'but that last bit of your request will cost 500 extra.'

I was on 2nd road earlier this week, believe me when I say Pattaya IS dead, it's like a ghost town I would estimate 3 in every 4 premises were closed, all massage were shut open air bars had thick layer of dust on the floors and surfaces, many of these will not be open again for months or years rather than days or weeks. ????????

Sign on tahitian queen this morning. thurs. 11.02.21.

Open on Friday, 12.02.21. Just for Chinese new Year? Dont know.

Pattaya not dead yet.

I get messages from my cousin who lives in Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, and he

says that some places are open and there are crowds on Fridays to Sundays from

the out of towners, and locals who still love the weekend, outings, but during the week

it is mostly dead. In Hua Hin my 2 friends say that it is depressing to see all the places

that have closed, and the malls that are barely hanging on.  The touristy spots are

mostly closed as they just do not attract most Thais, so no business no future.

Maybe in 2022 there will be more people who can safely travel again, but not now.

and having to do a 2 week quarantine at both ends of a trip is enough, that most people

will not be travelling to a foreign country, unless they are going to spend 2 months or more

in those foreign countries.  This would be a good time for Thailand to get rid of the 90 day

rules and get their visa requirements modernised and easier for the people who need a

visa.

One bar does not make Pattaya alive and kicking again.

It can still offer up a good time, but it is what you make of it.

Had a night out only last night... miss Kink GGB, and some of the beer bars seemed less populated than pre Lockdown 2. I decided to give Walking St a miss as there is a ruddy great hole I could fall into. LKM quite busy, but 11pm closing is too early.

Who reports that there is a lot of action in Soi Buakhao, LK Metro, Tree Town and Made in Thailand is simply lying. I live in Central Pattaya. Most bars if not closed are empty. The sex and booze tourist obviously don't want to enjoy quarantine or don't have the money for it. I think it is a great idea to get finally rid of them - the bars and these "tourists" . Pattaya has no future if it wants to continue to play the role of the perhaps biggest open air brothel in the world. It is embarrassing for normal or luxury tourists to say they go there for holidays. Or what would you think if I tell you that I will spend my holidays in the red light district St. Pauli in Hamburg? And compared to the red light areas in Pattaya this is a very small area...

@Oldie why do you live in pattaya as it sounds like you dont even like the place? bizarre

I have been living here for almost 30 years. Pattaya always had bars but there were not so many like now. In the area where I live there was nothing for very many years. Only during the last years more and more bars opened up here in Central Pattaya - Soi Buakhao, LK Metro, Tree Town and other areas in the city center. And YES I don't like this brothel atmosphere. I plan to move away and leave this place to sex tourists. This is no place for people like me anymore.

Years ago I was thinking it might get better because there was a female tourism minister that wanted to stop this sex business. But it just got MUCH worse and the new tourism minister even wants to extend the opening times of such businesses - if I remember correctly at least until 4 in the morning. This is not my world... I would never have sex with a prostitute or hang around in bars every night. It is time to move - I know.

the problem is the question of volume,

if the city was still medium sized, with the same bars as 2005/2006, then it could recover easily

but number of bars has exploded, the city has quadrupled in size since 2005, it's impossible to sustain a recovery with so much "weight" and "gravity" in play. The bigger they are, the bigger the fall.

I thought the Russian bosses had already packed and left........
