6 million British tourists may travel to Thailand in 2021: Survey

A survey carried out by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) London office has suggested that up to 6 million British tourists want to travel to Thailand in 2021.

The survey, which had 4,127 respondents, also suggested that Thailand will remain a popular choice for foreign tourists in the future, due to the low numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.

Some 75 percent of the respondents said they planned to travel abroad in the near future and that they would be happy to be vaccinated against COVID-19 if it meant they could travel abroad and visit a country without restrictions.

41 percent of respondents said they disagreed with any form of quarantine at the destination country, while 52 percent said they would be happy to spend up to 5 days in quarantine.

For those aged 50 and above, they said that countries with a low number of COVID-19 cases would be among their consideration when choosing a country to visit, Thai Rath reported.

Based on this on the survey results, Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, TAT deputy governor for Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas said that 9  percent of the British public, or approximately 6 million people, are considering travelling to Thailand in 2021.

Another TAT survey focussing on the Nordic countries, found that 99 percent were worried about getting infected after having made travel arrangements.

62 percent of those surveyed said they want to spend the European winter months in 2021 and 2022 in Thailand, providing there are no restrictions such as quarantine in place.

As for where in Thailand they want to visit, the destinations of choice were: Phuket, Krabi and Khao Lak, Koh Samui, Koh Pha-ngan, Koh Tao, Bangkok and Hua Hin.

However, 68 percent said they would cancel their travel plans if the 14 day quarantine was still mandatory. 26 percent of respondents said they would still travel, regardless of quarantine, and 13 percent said they wanted quarantine to be reduced to 10 days.

Another survey carried out in France revealed that Bangkok (25%) was the third most searched for destination, behind only Dubai (49%) and Marrakesh (27%).

Mr Siripakorn again reiterated the importance of  Thailand having a plan in place no later  than June regarding the so-called ‘vaccine passports’.

This would then enable Thailand to be in the position of being able to welcome foreign tourists by October.

Hahaha - That would indicate that 3095 people planned to travel abroad (no mention of Thailand). How the hell do they arrive at a figure of 6 million Brits holidaying in Thailand this year? Please can I have some of what these clowns have been smoking?

You and a guest will fly to beautiful Thailand for two sun kissed weeks, enjoying the views, the sun (from your balcony), and tropical breezes (if you open your window), all while never having to leave the comfort of your hotel room.

All this can be yours if the price is right.

The TAT spews this garbage daily.  I suppose they are under orders from the PM and it would go very bad for the if them if no <deleted> stories appeared for like 48 hours.  I suppose if the burnt ashes of all the dead in the UK were sent to Thailand they could actually meet the target.

But there were only 4127 responses to the survey ? how did they cum up with 6 million should only be 4127 if the all said yes !

That is not how surveys work.

Hmm, I the articles I have seen? That non-essential travel is illegal in the UK under threat of heavy fines, quarantine is required on return, also hill walkers publicly shamed by Police drone footage for walking their dogs in wide open spaces with total social distancing, etc.

Guess it is all fake news and 6 million Britons will visit by Xmas!

Have you ever heard of the TAT Magic Calculator? The greatest of all Thai inventions.

If there is one thing you can rely ion the TAT is to give everyone a jolly good laugh. my sides are splitting:cheesy::cheesy:.

Obvious these people do not know what is happening in the UK and also the state of the baht to the pound. It has been many a year since 6 million Brits visited Thailand for a holiday, if ever.  So why would that many people come now!

The TAT are delusional and quite frankly bull sitters

Totally lying and should be considered deformation.

So where did the 6 million figure come from. I know Thai mathematics.

So how about having the Thai population vaccinated then.

Besides the comedy factor in the article I feel sorry for Thailand having these people running the tourism industry and a large part of the economy. Other countries would throw them in Gaol for lying, repeatedly.

Jesus Christ on a Bicycle.

Thats about 8% - 9% of the entire population.

Even giving out Free Beer would not get this many British Tourists.

And IF 6 million came, with Thailand's population of say 60 million, one in 10 people would be Brits. <deleted>!

As I understand the full question in the survey was ‘Would you like to travel to Thailand this year and be given 40,000 baht spending money for free and 2 nights all in expenses paid at a soapy massage?

Indeed the result returned an estimated 6,000,000 Brits wanting to take up the offer.

There were further questions added including:

‘Would you be willing to receive a Chinese Covid-19 vaccination whilst in Thailand at your own expense’...and the numbers dropped to 5,000,000

‘Would you be willing to spend 14 days in quarantine in Thailand at the start of your holiday’….left 300,000

‘Would you be willing to spend 10 days in quarantine on your return to the UK’...down to 12,000

‘Do you know you only get 42 baht to the pound?’ 6,000

‘Would you go if you knew no Thai will serve you, sit on your lap or speak to you because they are scared to death they will contact C-19 from you?’ 3,200

‘Would you want to go knowing the government could and will close the bars and restaurants as soon as another 8 Thais catch covid?’

Luckily there are still 88 Brits brave enough to want to come.

I have four mates from the UK and another half-a-dozen from the US that have plans to come here between July and December. After deferring their annual Thailand vacation in 2019 and then having the pandemic scuttle their 2020 plans, they've saved a lot these past twelve to twenty-four months so will be flush with beer tokens and purple fun tickets when they get here.

PS: None of them work in the circus.

I have also read that some of the cheapest ASQ options don't have a window.
