Thailand has been ranked the 54th happiest country in the world, according to the World Happiness Report  2021.

The report was released on Friday by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, a global initiative launched by the United Nations in 2012.

It uses data from the Gallup World Poll to measure the happiness level in 149 countries around the world, based on six main factors: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity and level of corruption.

Thailand ranked in 54th place overall, the same ranking as the previous year, was praised for its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regionally, only Singapore (32) had a better ranking than Thailand, with the Land of Smiles head of the Philippines (61), Vietnam (79) Malaysia (81), Indonesia (82), Laos (100), Cambodia (114) and Myanmar (126).

Finland has been ranked as the happiest country in the world for the fourth consecutive year. The Nordic nation is followed by Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Norway.

People in war-torn Afghanistan are the most unhappy with their lives, followed by Zimbabwe (148), Rwanda (147), Botswana (146) and Lesotho (145).

The United States ranks at 19th place for happiness, while New Zealand (9), Australia (11), Germany (13, Canada (14) and the United Kingdom (17) also featured in the top 20.

Overall, the index showed little change in happiness levels compared to last years' report, which was based on information from before the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the UK in the top 20 and Thailand at 54, I should probably move back to the UK.

And now lets make a survey how many TV members would move to any of those countries even if they could live there forever without any visa hassle.

Seems to be a trend. The countries that rate highly in health care, environmental practices, being happy. Who'd a thunk it?

Is the last ranked country in a happiness list actually the saddest?

Should there be a cut off point in such a list because countries below that point can't be accurately described as happy?

Well, the survey wasn't about the happiest drunk whoreists.

Well, they didn't take into account all the 'happy ending' many got in this country, if they did, Thailand would be No. 1...

Yet, they have a huge problem with alcohol abuse and people with depressions during the winter time, makes no sense if you are the happiest country in the world.

1 80% have next to nothing - richest families have the rest.

2 You get 500 a month when you are 80.

3 1000 die on the roads monthly + 14000 annually from haze.

4 Generosity?

5 Level of corruption!

Go to the UK you could be in almost any nation in the world... most Brits moved out.

What a waste of money at the United Nations - 51 pages of report; seriously, are these guys for real?

Well... Thailand is second in SEA. There is that.

Also.. in order to be truly happy in these top ranked countries... you need to be extremely wealthy or extremely poor.
