BANGKOK (NNT) - The number of COVID-19 vaccine shots available for the general public is still limited. The first group to receive the vaccine includes medical personnel, people working in risk areas, the elderly and people with underlying diseases. Members of the public will begin to receive the vaccine in June.

 

Dr. Amorn Leelarasamee, President of the Medical Association of Thailand, as a member of the Subcommittee on Management of COVID-19 Vaccination in Bangkok, has announced that the vaccination priorities in Bangkok place importance on medical personnel or persons performing duties related to COVID-19. Then, people in risk areas, the elderly and people with an underlying disease will be considered.

 

People who want to receive the vaccine may have to ask a medical facility that has their medical records when they can get the vaccine. Dr. Woraya Leungorn, Director of the General Communicable Diseases Division, said this week that there is currently a limited volume of vaccine available, so vaccinations must start with groups most at risk. As for the general public, they may have to wait for the next phase. She confirmed however, that everyone will definitely be vaccinated.

 

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has confirmed that the government now plans to comprehensively provide vaccines to Thai people. The government will pay for the vaccine. It has also recommended the use of an application for the registration of vaccination requests, and for appointments at an injection site for greater convenience. There may also be schoolchildren or students who have to go to study abroad and need to be vaccinated first. Those who don’t have a smartphone should contact the nearest hospital, a subdistrict hospital or a village health volunteer to register for the vaccine.

I would be holding off those flight booking to Phuket.

Once the AZ vaccine is in full production / roll out they will have more vaccine supplies than all the other COVAX countries.

 

It's just taking a little longer to get started.

 

First they will catch up, then they will surpass - so long as the roll out is handled well.

I don't know how they will proceed but my advise would be to wait and see

They will have plenty of stock, because all other countries will happily send them their supplies which they abandon.

 

Even the UK is now considering not to use the AZ vaccine for under thirties.

I've read a lot about blood clots affecting some barely countable number of people, apparently blood thinners can sort this out and it's not sudden, it appears to slowly build up beginning with a headache. Treatment with blood thinners is effective they say.

 

How many people do blood thinners kill through internal bleeding? Therein lies a dilemma.....

 

If you believe that any vaccine out there for anything kills nobody then you have a lot of learning to do.

I would have thought that was up to the hospitals to sort for themselves. And they're going to be way down the queue that the drug companies are selling to for a long time yet.

Not quite.

 

Siam Bioscience is just a manufacturer of the AZ vaccine that happens to be located in Thailand - Thailand will have to order and reserve just like any other country, and Thailand has been allocated only 26million of the SB vaccines - enough for 13million people.

 

So, whilst that 26million will help, they will still be well short of the vaccines necessary.

 

Then the big question is "will SB actually meet the June timeframe?" and manage to manufacturer the 10million (or 18million) per month they have quoted. No one has seen the production line and no questions have been asked....for obvious reasons...

 

Only time will tell, but the SB bet is as big a bet Thailand cold make - All in baby.

They have never manufactured a vaccine in the past.

And almost every manufacturer took longer to start mass production, and most are still well behind the curve.

 

So, unless SB are already well advanced in terms of manufacturing commercial quantities now, the chances of them hitting the June timeframe and 10million per month are very, very low.

 

If we see some large Sinovac, AZ or J&J vaccines in the next month, that would be a bad sign for SB.

Yeah 30 cases of a rare clot amongst 80 million administered. 
More chance of getting a clot without the vaccine but keep the scare mongering going.

No way JiminPattaya is going to be walking in and getting vaccinated at a private hospital before the government has seen to it that the vast majority of the Thai population have had it. Where do you expect private hospitals to get supplies from when governments all over the world are booking supplies months in advance?

I refer to the Thai press...how many photos or videos of SB factory, production line or manufactured vaccines have you seen? How many interviews or updates have you seen?

 

AZ approving a factory doesn't mean they are on schedule or they will hit the self imposed targets...

 

If you have anything worthwhile to add, please do...but you don't.

Is this the total number of Vaccines that have been administered since Mid Feb when the first Batch of Sinovac landed in Swampy.

Why are all the other Doses that have been received of both Sinovac and the AZ Vaccine not being pumped into arms with some kind of urgency.

Are they just sitting on them or something. Are they playing for a Covax handout, have they gone bad

True indeed and just never risk driving to a hospital to get the jab,  the risk is greater you will be an accident statistic rather than a covid one.

Ok . Even though I try to support Thailand I see nothing in this article about mass vaccination or numbers or even how they intend to deliver these mass vaccinations or even  anything connected to numbers of doses, number of people or timeline in regards to any of the above.

 It says June thats about the only filling in this nothing burger.

   It's either terrible reporting or just a load of shizz I read it twice just to be sure but nothing in the headline is explained by anything in the article.

But according to the majority on this forum both sinovac and astra are <deleted> and that same majority would never choose to have that injected into them. So who cares if they selling it? Best way to get rid of it no? Or is this yet again the old thai visa double standard?
