BANGKOK (NNT) - Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has confirmed that travellers from Bangkok and other risk areas heading to their home provinces for Songkran will not have to go into quarantine. Only people who had been infected with the virus, or were considered at high risk, would be quarantined.

He said the situation had not yet reached a point where people travelling from red zones would face mandatory testing before departure or 14-day quarantine on arrival in their home provinces.

The minister said although provinces had been divided into zones, designated by colors according to the infection rates, none would be locked down.

However, he warned against socializing or drinking in crowded areas over the holiday period since Covid-19 is still spreading, adding that people must make lifestyle adjustments to prevent the virus from spreading, including staying at home with their family and avoiding crowds.

The public health minister asked that people remain alert and careful, and not be too fun-loving because it was clearly evident the virus spread among groups of people visiting entertainment venues.

In the UK highest source of spreading I believe, visiting families/friends in their homes or private parties and workplace.

Mr. Anutin tell that to the Provincial governors who have already stated if you come from a red zone you will go into quarantine, like your hometown of Buriram for example.  Incompetent tool.

So Anutin says people from high risk areas do not have to quarantine, gawd help us, what a complete buffoon.

There are now 7 provinces (Khon Kaen, Bueng Kan, Buriram, Sakon Nakhon, Surin, Nakhon Ratchasima and Prachuap Khiri Khan) that have ordered 14 day quarantine for those people arriving from the “red zones” during the Songkran

I do hope he remembers saying this once Songkran is over and the numbers rise, unless of course they stop testing .......................LOL

Well done to them, as we border 3 of these provinces lets get Udon Thani on this list ASAP.

hopefully "wallet size" isn't a deciding factor in the risk calculation.

It's all too late.....as soon as it was mentioned a couple of days ago that there "might be" restrictions on travel.......whoosh!! everybody gone already!

Wouldnt surprise me if government waited till Saturday and put a ban on travel....stable door/horse/bolted!!!!

There are currently no Red zones.  Bangkok has been reclassified as an Orange zone. A meeting of the Covid committee later today should "clarify" things.  I think the government are unhappy with Governors making unilateral decisions affecting citizens from outside their provinces.

Declaring zones red, then shortly later changing them back to orange does not exactly inspire confidence in either the regime, the CCSA or the color-coding system. Now, no one will trust it.

Dont really understand these idiots its as if they actually want the country riddled with covid unbelievable!

As for now changing the colours they have lost all credibility for themselves and the system

Fools!

Makes no difference what colour the travellers from Bangkok or other nearby areas as they will have to self quarantining in Udon Thani

Anyone who now contracts Covid from an infected person from the Red Zones, can NOW SUE Mr Anutin for allowing this....what a muppet !!

There'll never be a Thai strain as they are only good at copying not innovating.

Which one applies?

Same for Buriram province where the governor announced that all travelers from the 5 red risk zones would need to quarantine for 14 days.
Whose decision takes precedence?  Anutin or the provincial governors?
This should be interesting.  Left-hand doesn't know what the right-hand is doing.

Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) has already back-pedalled and said it was a misunderstanding and have now clarified. Only high-risk people who visited places where there were confirmed Covid cases should do the 14-day quarantine

Precisely why they want to get rid of RED & replace it with orange. If we don't see this as a Code Red emergency, it's too late.

Fine to designate working-class Samut Sakhon red but, oooh, the capital...

Because it would be impossible to administer. How do you test and/or quarantine millions?

They'll run into problems with the millions of working class travellers who have already booked their annual trips home if they try and stop them now.

well Surat Thani is being hit with new cases of covid after an event was held in a big hotel this week, it was caused by an out of province person naturally yet these idiots still want people to travel etc over songkran with no restrictions. This really shows how pathetic those running the country are by putting money ahead of safety, then they will blame everyone else when the next big wave hits instead of accepting they are the ones that have caused it through their total stupidity

Even if it was enforced I don’t know how they’d cope with the thousands of people travelling into each province

Then you’d also get people people lying where they’ve come from or do a detour

A man who knows literally nothing and knows it very well.
