Songkran is Irritating

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

This is going to be a rant. I’ve lived here for a while and every year this country just stops. Frankly I find it irritating and stupid.

My car broke down over the weekend. Evidently I have to wait at least a week to do anything about it and considering the BMW dealer here is slow as heck, I probably won’t be able to drive it for at least a month!

I have had issues receiving a package and it’s stuck in customs at the airport. The office there won’t be open until next week.

I just find the whole thing ridiculous. I wouldn’t be surprised if the police and hospitals closed too.

This is one of those days that make me want to find another country to live in.

I think he means "Songkran" the traditional Thai New Year. He seems to be beside himself with frustration and may even be looking for a new home. Good luck finding a livable place...

  • Try Italy during August (Ferragosto), or the Philippines during Holy Week (even the Manila MRT is shut).

So if businesses 'back home' stops from Christmas to new years, it's not irritating?

I for one don't mind Songkran. I only wish when there is water throwing that they won't put ice in the bucket when they throw it, as I have too many dents in my motorcycle helmet.

Wow, so your home country doesn’t observe Easter holidays and Xmas/NY holidays. Amazing.

What country are you from?

With respect, I appreciate your frustrations but you are in Thailand and it is their culture and way of life. I'm afraid you must grin and bear it until the country re-opens!

Big Bwana here don't like It when the natives get lazy. Back in the day they would be flogged...

J&T Express delivered a package this morning.

And we had our rubbish collected as usual. And 3BB stopped by to deal with a problem that was reported at the weekend. That surprised me, actually.

Or France or Holland.
