Naew Na reported the news that provincial police chief Pol Maj-Gen Wanchai Tharanatham ordered the transfer to an inactive post of Hua Hin police chief Pol Col Phaitoon Phromkhian.

This they said was after he allowed places in Hua Hin to open after hours specifically the Maya Pub that was the epicenter of the outbreak of Covid in Prachuap Khiri Khan after a concert there on March 30th.

The media notes that Wanchai had only just got back to his desk after being transferred to an inactive post over allowing a so-called Wua Lan event to take place.

Wua Lan is a kind of rodeo event and at this one a local official had been murdered.

Does anyone know what "inactive post" actually means?........Do they sit at a desk doing nothing on full pay?

It means they can't collect bribes, so 90% of their pay gone.

Thankfully he's qualified for the position!

They have no formal responsibilities, they can have work to do

That is going to hurt......

In active in the RTP culture is "temporarily being deprived of kick backs and/or bribes".

But off duty "hit man" I guess is still optional ?

He’s only done what every others Chief if Police does, in this cases it’s simply not stopping events... someone shot at the first event, not really his fault it would seem.

Allowing the Maya party to go ahead, was there any law in place at the time stopping such events?

Seems he has been made a scapegoat for the government not setting clear guidelines in place.

Maybe he did it so well they wanted him back ?

He had not quite filled his personal retirement plan yet.

They never have, always a space for more

They just delegate the collection to a lower ranker... until they get re-instated.

Obviously they need to fire him then maybe he will understand his punishment ........

They probably "work" at being inactive at home.

In the UK IIRC it was called gardening leave.

A tad too much self interest to let peoples health get in the way.
