Doctors say stroke-like symptoms after Sinovac shot, stress related

BANGKOK (NNT) - Thai health authorities say the reported stroke-like symptoms occurring after some people get Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine, are a stress-related response, assuring the community that the vaccine is safe to use.

 

Doctors from Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute and Siriraj Hospital today made an announcement on stroke-like side effects in some people after receiving their shots of COVID-19 vaccine.

 

Group of people exhibiting suspicious stroke-like symptoms had been reported in both Lampang and Rayong, all occurring shortly after the injection of Sinovac’s CoronaVac vaccine.

 

Dr Jurai Wongsawat from Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute, said today that preliminary investigations show the symptoms are a temporary stress related neurological condition, which is related to the vaccine recipients’ stress level, while classifying these events as one of the immunization stress-related responses (ISRR).

 

People showing ISRR after receiving Sinovac’s vaccine in Lampang and Rayong are reported to have experienced numbness, lowered motor functions, speaking difficulties, and facial weakness. Dr Jurai said these people were all treated with a medicine used to break down blood clots.

 

Dr Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit from Siriraj Hospital said today that while the reported adverse events occured acutely after the vaccination, the condition did not develop into a disease.

 

She said these neurological responses can be mitigated with conversation to help vaccine recipients create trust, while suggesting the vaccination station should be set up in a well ventilated area that is not too warm or humid, and the place should not be crowded, in order to lower a person’s anxiety.

 

Dr Kulkanya suggests that people experiencing tiredness, not having had enough rest, having certain worries, or currently having an illness, should have their vaccination appointment changed to a later date.

 

She said people with a history of adverse reactions from vaccinations, or having high anxiety, could receive the jabs while lying down.

 

Vaccine recipients should then be monitored for any reactions for 30 minutes after their jab. They should continue to monitor possible reactions, which commonly include fever and fatigue, which should improve in 1-2 days. However, anyone experiencing weakened limbs or blurry vision should seek medical attention immediately.

 

The doctors say it is necessary for people to get vaccinated against COVID-19, while recommending people with a history of stroke take antiplatelet or anticoagulant medications if getting Sinovac’s jabs.

There were no clots. Extensive medical tests, imaging etc found that these women did not have any clot (the initial medication for clots was given empirically, turns out not necessary).

 

No abnormalities at all were found on extensive testing and all women fully recovered within a very short time.

 

Hence the conclusion that it was an anxiety reaction. 6 of the 7 women  worked in the same province and likely know each other. These things can occur as a form of group hysteria.

 

The adenovirus based COVID vaccines (Astra Zeneca and J&J) do carry a very small risk of blood clots (about 1 in 500,000) but so far no indication that Sinovac does. Sinovac is a traditional vaccine made of inactivated virus.

Yea, people tend to get stressed when they get injected by God knows what, made in China, after catching we know what from that same China. It's an odd World. smells fishy......  sounds familiar.... heard similar explanation in China when they found people with one side of their face paralyzed and some had strokes in HK all under the same excuse ""stress related""

I'm totally lost when it comes to physiology and grateful for this advice.  I'm not due my jabs for a while but could you just confirm whether that is 2*320ml or2*620ml . Also is it Leo for AstraZeneca or is Chang more suitable?

I've never met anyone that wants to try a voluntary stroke, but if the health authorities say it's safe then I guess it must be.

Thank god I'm over 60... I can get my stroke using normal methods..

Yes, it's true they have injected some millions of their own population even before the trials were over, but it's a minor aspect.

 

Why so many people bash a vaccine with a 3% efficacy rate on dose one, I cannot understand.

This is of course utter nonsense, as we Scotch drinkers know all too well, only 10 year old Scottish Single Malt works against all known diseases, conditions, maladies, viruses and bacteria. For the harder to shift issues, a 20 year old does the trick; so does whisky of course.

The link contains about 2 pages of incidents dating back over 500 years.

 

Very rare - it's so rarely seen that I suspect it doesn't really exist outside the minds of a few over imaginative researchers.
