Police arrested 25 foreigners and 3 Thais on suspicion of breaching COVID-19 restrictions after raiding a private birthday party in Pattaya on Sunday.

Around 50 officers from Banglamung police station raided two adjacent villas in Soi Boonsampan 11/1, Nong Prue, at around 11.50pm following complaints from neighbours about loud music and noise coming from the property.

Police said a total of 28 people were in the villas, 11 men and 17 women, including 13 Filipinos, 6 Russians, 3 Thais, 2 French and British, Canadian, Albanian and Cambodian nationals.

Sophon reported the gathering was being held for the birthday of a Filippino English teacher.

Those attending told police they did not believe they were doing anything wrong as the party was a private event.

All were arrested and taken to Nong Prue police station where they were charged with violating the most recent order under the Communicable Disease Act  which prohibits gatherings due to COVID-19.

The news comes as Thai police last week said they would be stepping up enforcement of COVID-19-related public health orders, taking particular aim at private parties and social gatherings.

Police forces in so-called ‘red zones’ said they would crackdown on gatherings in order to curb further spread of the virus.

  • Gatherings for 30 people were allowed IMO. Do they arrest all thai people too if they are in a restaurant  or pub /bar?? Or is it only if there are foreigners involved?

While they may have acted foolishly, did they break a law ????   Where is that law ?? It would be good to see a link which highlights the limits / regulation for Chonburi.

  • So there was a bigger gathering of over 50 Police Officers!  Surely if a gathering of 28 is illegal, over 50 must also be illegal!

and this is were is all gets rather murky with

Police officers in Pattaya now in quarantine and fellow officers now out mixing with the public knowing they have been in contact with people infected or have been in buildings where virus has been spreading, they are now breaking their own rules

Anyone now feel comfortable having close contact with cops in pattaya - I certainly don't

No they were at a private house, not the YMCA????

I read somewhere that private events of less than 50 people are permissible.

Also, didn’t the ‘Covid-19’ restrictions officially start today? (Monday).

It would be safer for all if the RTP were all quarantined.

You have to believe it was that loud karaoke machine they blew the lid off of this crew of reveling miscreants. Yet another sad tale of foreigners deliberately flouting  pandemic procedures and endangering the happy people here in This Land Of Smiles.

28 is a lot of people. Is there a limit number? Like less than 15 or 10?

The Russians were exposed to Chernobyl, nothing can harm them. Da da da, aha aha aha.

Pubs bars are closed.

Parties involve drinking and prolonged probably maskless close contact between mixed groups.

Extremely high risk.

Restaurants are moderate risk when indoors and arguably should also be closed.

Will those arrested be deported?

going strictly by the rules that is exactly what should happen

people are being arrested for knowingly mixing with the public after being in close contact with people who have been infected or in a location were where the virus has been present - that is exactly what the police are doing in Pattaya

In Bangkok (Red area) there is a limit on gatherings of ‘friend / family’ of 20 people.

I did read previous that there were higher limits in other areas, however, finding clear and concise information motion is difficult, especially when the local mayor of governors have been given authority to set their own regulations.

Regardless, a gathering of +/- 30 people is a little silly and careless given the current situation, but I can’t help but wonder if the ‘outrage’ is due to these being foreigners.

The key question remains, did they break any laws or local regulations?

Additionally: Why are some foreigner’s so quick to wish for the deportation of other foreigners???

Back off dude.

I asked a question.

I never said I wished that.

OK?

It's a fair question that you asked  if they actually did violate a law.

People shouldn't be arrested if they didn't.

On the question of foreigners being irresponsible during this pandemic, it's worth noting that's its human nature to scapegoat others during times of crisis. That happens even when the others are totally innocent. But please don't freaking ask for it!

Fair enough, I see it as a common theme when a foreigner does something wrong, there is always a poster or posters calling for their deportation. You didn’t call for their deportation, but still......  why even mention it ?

Any link to the Emergency Degree regulations for Pattaya ??? I can’t find anything, a list of regulations etc... the information for Bangkok is fairly clear, but not for Pattaya.

Neighbours called because of loud music and noise 11.50pm so yes.

Common sense would tell anyone with half a brain that gatherings of any kind at this time are dangerous! The perps were charged..............wear it!

What law ??

Is there a decibel limit ?... is there a time after which music outside is considered disturbing the peace ?

And, since when did the police care about anyone having a party in a private house ?

-------------

I have no sympathy for people who are going to have a loud party and disturb neighbours. I certainly have no sympathy for a group of 28 people gathering during an epidemic and serious 3rd wave outbreak.

BUT....  what laws have been broken ???? All I can read is they were arrested for breaking the laws under emergency decree - what are they???  because the Emergency decree has been in place for over a year, the laws have been modified - So what are those regulations for Chonburi - right now??? where is the list of those regulations ??

People will want to know: IF a family remain in a ‘bubble’ with another family, can they have that family over for a BBQ ??? etc...    is that breaking the law ?

This might help.

While the limit for 'events' appears to be 50, I guess that this, at a stretch, may fall under the general 'entertainment' ban. Who knows?
