2nd thoughts about coming to Thailand..

Featured Replies

I have started my Non Imm OA visa process. I have prepared most of my paperwork, purchased my flight, Dr. note, bank info, applications, background check, vaccine, and even paid for 1 year worth of health and covid Insurance. My flight arrives July 2nd. I am considering not going now. I was willing to quarantine for 7 days but not 14. Am I overreacting?

If you don't like it you can just stay home, depends 100% on you ????

Are you overreacting?  I'd say no.  The current situation is a mess that is evolving day by day with no end in sight or feasible plan at the moment.

I wouldn't want to go right now at least.

It boils down to how much will you lose from your outlay already, against the extra cost of doing 14 days quarantine. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

The Covid situation is worsening in Thailand and perhaps improving in your home Country, meaning many restrictions and businesses closed here, which you should also consider.

Two weeks quarantine is not a big deal - I’ll have to qualify that, its not a big deal for a lot of people, but it can be a big deal for some.

So, only you can decide if you are ok with 15 nights in a room on your own, unable to leave - I’ve been fine with it each and every time.

Actually 1 week time to myself is great !! - two weeks is perhaps a little too long, but still fine.

So, its all about how you think you can handle two weeks in a room and if you are ok with that.

Its a very personal decision.

You are overreacting. Stop reading the news and worrying, go to Thailand.

Still a fraction of cases compared to US, Europe.

Just had my 2nd vaccine and was very reluctantly preparing and researching the absurd COE and addons for the "clean" and vaccinated 7days told my Mrs and boy that I will be home very soon from my 15 month exile only to find out today that's been increased to 14 days instead of being abolished as it should be.

lucky for me it was before money was parted with and now wont be back anytime soon with this shower of <deleted> in charge   ????

Not at all concerned about COVID. I have already had it and will be vaccinated before I arrive. I am concerned about 15 nights and paying for the 15 nights.

Best to forget Thailand this year unless you don't mind things closed, they are struggling to control this surge, may get completely out of hand with the very low vaccinations

Reading you are applying for the hideous Non Immigrant O-A,  only THAT would have made me stay home instead...  Sure you cannot change that <deleted>-VISA application, and apply for another variant of VISA???

Where are you now and how safe is it there? Despite the headlines and a lot of the rubbish you read on TVF, Thailand is still one of the safer places to be right now. Especially if you can move away from the urban areas.

14 days solitary in a hotel is, IMO no big deal at all. If you have a computer or similar there is tons of stuff to keep you amused and entertained. Exercise is no problem either. there are plenty of home routines you can follow.

Here's a tip for you. Look up Wim Hof. His simple breathing routines are just amazing for keeping one calm and relaxed during stressful periods.

Go for it. Good luck.

Best stay home mate.

Sounds like Thailand isn't really for you.

What you're missing:

1.  Everyone nervous, wearing masks, no smiles

2.  Quiet.  Dead quiet.  Boring, not good quiet.

3.  Hot, hotter, and death hot

4.  No "energy" in the cities anymore.

you will spend hundreds of thousands of baht for what?

wait until November and then decide.

Looks like a delayed Covid onset in Thailand to me. That means bigger waves are on the way before it peaks, like other countries. I would have waited.

Are the flights refundable? If not, your going buddy. Already paid out too much.

It might be 7 days again in July. That is over 2 months away. A lot can change by then.

I think you are overreacting.

Your flight arrives on July 2nd?

That is two entire months away. By then, all the Western countries will have their vaccine passport schemes up-and-running. The EU formally announced theirs yesterday.

Over the next few weeks, all the other major Western countries should announce their versions. That will be the cue for almost all countries, globally, to announce that quarantine will be dropped entirely for VVV's (Verifiably Vaccinated Visitors).

This is already happening in some countries - such as Ireland accepting Israeli green certificates - and the EU is already in talks with the US to agree the standards necessary for reciprocal acceptance. The UK is being snubbed by the EU but will no doubt end up with a scheme based on the same standards, and probably slightly ahead of the EU's schedule, just to rub it in ????

All the smaller countries, including Thailand, will row in behind those standards, both as a way to revive their tourism industries and as a way to encourage their own citizens to go ahead and get vaccinated despite all the horror stories.

The EU scheme will be trialed during May, with the online verification gateway launching in June. The roll out in each EU country will be left to the individual governments. After the EU's inexplicable delay in ordering vaccines, I would guess that each government will act as quickly as they can on the certificates, under tremendous pressure from citizens hoping to have a summer vacation.

If you are in the UK, I'm guessing you will already be fully-innoculated and eligible to receive a vaccine passport before the end of June.

I would also guess that Thailand will drop the quarantine for VVV's from the start of the second half of the year: July 1st.

I expect Thailand to continue offering the quarantine option, for visitors who are not yet fully-innoculated, until the end of the year, but to then end the scheme and switch to VVV-only from the start of 2022. They may be beaten to it, however, by most major airlines refusing to carry unvaccinated adult passengers.

if you received your coe before 1st of may you will only have to do 7/10 days quarantine

Its depends on why you want to come back.

Having done the 14 days already, its not as bad as you might think. I found it quite easy with books and Netflix, etc. I came back because I had been living here for many years already and had the house/car/etc and I am glad I did come back.

Just an educated guess, but I think they will reduce quarantine once the majority of at least the most vulnerable (elderly, chronically ill, high risk occupation etc) Thai population is immunized and not before that.

Which will not be in July, but could be later in this year.

As to whether to still come in July, as others said depends on why you are coming and also how easily you can change your plans. If planning to newly retire here, would make more sense to plan on coming late in the year. Your visa will be valid for 12 months and can cancel insurance with refund.

Not only might you then either completely avoid quarantine or have a shorter quarantine but life in Thailand will be more normal.

Just what I was wondering, HuskerDo.

For many there are reasons not to be here, but they're still here only to complain to be here ????????????

Wasn't it 14 days when you started the process?

I think there is a lot more to this decision than you are letting on...

make a list of pros and cons if that helps... I sense cold feet in general.

Only one thing in the pros column........everything else you can get anywhere.

So instead of 51 weeks of enjoyment, you'll only have 50 now. Yeah, I'd call it quits and stay home.

I have heard tell that some of them even have names...

sure, always 3 letters, Nit, Noy, Lek..

list them by names, how many kids they have, where they are from...  cross reference by birthdays, hairstyles - up to you...

The interview process will bring your encounters to 15 minutes rather than 5... it will be fun.
