The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will proceed with its plans to attract foreign tourists to the resort island of Phuket, without compulsory quarantine, starting July 1st this year, with flight promotions as an incentive.

The plan offers the first quarantine-free option for international arrivals in Thailand since the pandemic started last year, to help the crippled tourism industry.

The TAT aims to attract 129,000 visitors to Thailand in the third quarter of this year, through the “Phuket Sandbox” project, where fully vaccinated tourists, who have tested negative for COVID-19, can visit Phuket for a minimum period of seven days, before travelling to other provinces with airports, TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said today (Thursday).

Currently in Phuket you're not even allowed to have a friend over to your house, if you do they have threatened to look at your visa.   1st July? About 6 weeks away...............lol

That might be what he is saying today, but we all know that something very different is likely to be uttered within a day or so, and then again two days after that. Consistency in position is not something Thailand seems noted for.

The Thai Government hasn't even updated  their new numbers to Worldometers yet , have to wonder if they will try to get away with not doing it so the country doesn't look so bad to potential tourists .

fortunately, it's not the decision for the TAT to make. Ontario (CDN) stopped the AZ vax yesterday, finding 1 in 60,000 people experiencing the blot clot issues. That's a far cry from the one in a million chance we heard from the makers. Since this country is banking on local production of this in a few months who knows what vaxes and how many may be available down the road. This **** is far from over..

They have been saying this since a few months already, so far very consistent.

The island in itself is most certainly alive and kicking and stunningly beautiful, albeit with a few current severe restrictions as you say ????

Very true. I'd take a bet that it doesn't happen though!

I have a few questions:

1. What are they smoking over there?

2. Can I have some?

3. Why 129,000 visitors, and not 129,736?

4. How do they move from "kicking out of the country foreigners who don't wear a mask while peeing in the jungle" to "welcoming foreigners with no strings attached (save for the money spending thing)" in just 45 days?

5. What are the requirements in order to be recruited by the TAT...besides the smoking thing (see question 1)?

Could care less about tourists but allows myself and thousands of expats a back door to slip in.

Consistently delusional.

For interprovincial air travel, the TAT plans to cover the fares for one-way tickets, priced at no more than 2,000 Baht

Wait and see. I seriously doubt the expats posting here have a better knowledge of the happenings than the Thai making the decisions.

<Sirens - Flashing lights - Yelling - Commotion>
Then get busted my the Royal Thai Police and unceremoniously dragged to the police station with a bevy of Thai reporters and cameramen recording every sordid tidbit for Thai TV, radio, press, and social media, then fined 68,000 THB for illegal gathering, 20,000 THB for illegal drinking, 6,000 THB for drinking without wearing a mask, and 40,000 THB for illegally having fun, and then promptly hauled to Immigration Detention and deported the next day.  ????

...See?  We promised you a memorable time, did we not?
Goodbye farang, and thanks for all the money!

TAT may well be proceeding with their plans but to the best of my knowledge, they are not in charge of what is actually allowed. Note, plans - they can plan all they want, how many of their other 'plans' have actually come to fruition recently? One maybe? And that lasted how long? A month?

TAT - Talok (joke) Authority of Thailand.

Nothing better than a good evening joke for a nightcap.. ????

PM signed off on this month's ago as part of Thailands plan of opening borders moving forward towards October. In fact it's the only plan that hasn't flipped or flopped so far.

Vaccinated tourists, wearing masks, not allowed to gather, not leaving the island, no sitting on the beach, alcohol ban and all entertainment venues closed. and than all the paperwork insurance, covid free forms, visa, etc etc and coming soon an entrance fee of 300 THB.. Sounds a pretty and happy holiday.. Boycot the whole island. There are much better places to spend your money.

They told me 7 days quarantine than with little notice put it at 14 everything was paid for so hear I am.  Don’t book nothing you can’t cancel at the last minute. Because they can change it that fast

No. You can stay wherever you like.. In a house or in a hotel.. You follow the same restrictions as the other locals, but you cant leave the province for 7 days.. Easy.

I wonder what they are going to do with the ones who are vaccinated, enter Covid negative, but later found to be Covid positive as has happened in UK, Aust and Canada when in quarantine. It deemed less likely to be severe infection, but possibly still able to transmit.

Does that price include a jet-ski scam?
