The outbreak could probably never have been stopped but it certainly would not have been as bad had they done the right thing at the beginning and we all know what the right thing to do was. The problem we now have of course is the vaccine fiasco, letting the virus run like this has caught up with them and exposed their complacency and utter irresponsibility in the plan.

In the mean time the daily deaths pile up, those seriously sick in ICU and the families of the loved ones grieving their lost ones. Not to mention the disastrous economic impact this is having.

I updated my post which shows how many deaths there were last month compared to April. Here it is:

Within Thailand in the past 2 months there have been 136,599 positive cases. That's an average of 2,203 daily positives and there have been 975 deaths at at average of 15 p/d. In the last month, however, (May 1-Jun 1) there have been 101,948 confirmed positives at a daily average of 3,288 and 845 deaths at a daily average of 27. April 1-May 1 there were 38,145 positives at a daily average of 1,230 and 130 deaths at a daily average of 4

Chonburi Covid -19 cases drop to 29 confirmed and new infections

The Chonburi Department of Public Health announced 29 new and confirmed cases of Covid-19 today, June 2nd, mostly driven by clusters at factories and migrant worker camps.

Today is the lowest number of cases in Chonburi since April 7th, 2021.

This makes a total of 4,745 cases of Covid-19 in the current round of infections, with 978 people still under medical care and with a total of 28 recorded deaths in Chonburi since the start of this recent round of infections in early April.

324 schools reopen in Lampang province after 5 days with no covid transmission. Will be interesting to see what happens. If truly no covid then happy days.

If BKK and surrounds adopt this schools will not open until next year.

Its only my opinion but I don't think it will take long before cases are found in some of these schools. Covid is probably still around. I hope not but time will tell.

Only 100!

I fear Covid "Groundhog Day" will be recurring for a long while yet.

That long while yet as you say will eventually tell us all "How long that piece of string is".  The proverbial question we heard as kids in school from those teachers when we asked a simple question and got that rhetorical question asked of us "Well how long is a piece of string".....

One day we may know as covid seems to be like that long piece of string.......continuing on ad infimum

Well you can do an approximation based on their social status/income level ; Low income : Check place of work, house, market visits.

But the problem in Thailand and why we are in the current situation, is the hiso class : They travel everywhere, boink random escorts, drink in groups and are untouchable by the law.

Yeah....but what a life. No way they can be happy.

Well, we just got the news today that the GF's daughter will start school next Monday the 7th.  Oh and it will be On-Line teaching and class by way of using the Line App.  How many kids have parents that are still home, and not working during the day, who can help the children out when questions arise, and how many actually have tablets.....

I teach mainly poor kids. We started using the LINE group app but many parents complained it was unfair because those that can afford it can do it but those who can't their kids are being disadvantaged. School went to books of worksheets provided by teachers.

Ok so it looks as though Siam Bioscience can’t get the 6 million doses promised for June. It’s a new plant that never made vaccines before so some teething issues to be expected. But more communication from the company would help clear up doubts.

also worth noting that the hospital admissions in the UK are primarily from those that refuse to be vaccinated

Yes, and they are also the ones that went to India unvaccinated and brought the flaming thing back with them - as can be seen by the area of high infection in the UK which have high Asian populace.

Worrying for me, is that whilst stuck in Blackpool, the entire Asian contents of those towns are appearing on the beach. Some B and B's here are actively refusing them beds when they say where they are from.

It was always going to be an issue, but one that Anutin and this Government downplayed and stated that there would be no problems in making delieveries as well as he even said again today.  The man is a complete liar and failure it would seem

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/health-minister-confident-astrazeneca-doses-will-arrive-on-time

Thailand’s Public Health Minister says the delivery of 6 million doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is on schedule. Anutin Charnvirakul says the doses are expected to arrive in batches, throughout the month of June, and he’s confident the first lot will be here by June 7, when the national rollout begins.

“I’m confident the first lot will be put out on June 7.”

Oh, well if delays are to be expected when converting a medical plant into one that makes vaccines for the first time every, then mai pen rai! No harm in securing the license instead of actual doses.  It's not like time is of the essence or anything.

Just out of curiosity though, wasn't the plant supposed to be up and running in April?  Or am I misremembering?

JUST IN: After weeks of silence and mounting doubts, royally-owned Siam Bioscience publishes photos showing that the first locally produced @AstraZeneca #COVID19 vaccines have left the factory in time for the scheduled mass rollout next week.

The question now is "How many" and were these meant for deliveries elsewhere, like the Philippines, and instead they kept them for the use here in Thailand.  It would be nice if there was truly some transparency, or is it because of statements made by certain government people like Anutin that the hand was forced.  Just questions and no bashing.

This is the very point I was trying to make.  We just received a call that we need to go to the school tomorrow to pick up the needed supplies for doing the work they provide on line for the students.  This is truly homeschooling and yet there has been no reduction in fees.  Just frustrating.

Yep, so if world rankings are a good indicator, then Thailand would be in the top 10% in performance, overall as recognised by John Hopkins University and the WHO.

Top 80 in terms of cases??? Pls recalculate on a per capita basis as more like bottom 40. And in a country with porous borders and fairly high migrant worker population.

While much of the world is seeing a decline in cases (from horrific levels for so very many), a few countries are experiencing a wave at this time, including Thailand. We can pontificate as to why and who is to blame, but fact is the wave is so much lower than most countries have been through.

Some mild examples - Malaysia, also with migrant workers and experiencing higher case numbers with less than half the population. While things are under control in Australia, their deaths per million are still higher than Thailand. Thailand has performed 20 to 50x better than most of Americas and Europe, where majority of the doom squad be from.

Let's keep in context folks and maybe try understand why Thailand has done so well - heard it all from luck, genetics, diet, heat (partly but look at Central America). Good on you Danderman for your efforts to put the doom squad at ease.

In the meantime, let's hope Thailand can do it again and bring this more challenging wave under control.

I'm sorry you don't understand what NOW means and similarly seem not to understand global weekly trends in which as I stated Thailand is now in the top 20 worse perfoming countries globally. This has nothing to do with "gloom" it is a fact as of yesterday".

The first 1.8 million doses of Covid-vaccine made in Thailand are “ready to be gradually rolled out”, #AstraZeneca said Wednesday. Anutin said earlier that the first jabs were being deployed today and 6 million doses in total are expected in June.

Yeah, and another worry is that the virus(es) may become resistant to the vaccines as the crow flies short time, same as like what  has happened to antibiotics given to kill germs like bacteria and fungus. Not scare mongering but this virus is mutating way too fast and is definitely changing and surviving.. Been also reading some studies concerning AstraZeneca and the South African variant that everyone should read up on. My choice is Moderna or Pfizer, but as you said, "all unknown at present in an ever changing battle". So sort of take a look week by week and there is probably something new that pops its ugly head up.

I distinctly remember the experts saying corona viruses don't mutate quickly, were the experts wrong?
