Thailand road carnage: 55 dead Monday - stats show deathtoll continues like previous years

Daily News reported that 55 people were reported as having died on Thailand's roads on Monday.

 

They caution that their figures are unofficial.

 

They are also just those who die at the scene of accidents. When those who perish on the way to and at hospitals are added the figures are even worse. 

 

This made the death toll in May 1,039.

 

In 2019 14,907 died at the scene.

 

in 2020 it was 14,825.

 

In the first five months of 2021 it has been 6,104.

 

Last year in the same period it was 5,732.

As part of their campaign to raise driver awareness they featured an accident in U-Thong sub district of Suphanburi in central Thailand in which three trucks concertinaed. 

 

The driver of the third Hino truck was in a serious condition after plowing into the back of the second one on the U-Thong to Talung Neua Road.

 

The first driver said he had stopped to make a right turn and the second truck was behind him stopped too. 

 

The media said to watch out for vehicles turning.

Thaivisa notes that the deathtoll on Thailand's roads is at least 20,000 people per year and possibly as high as 24-26,000 depending on whose estimates are believed. 

 

Some 80% involve death of motorcyclists. 

 

The death toll among under 15's now rivals drowning as the leading cause of death in Thailand.

The way Thai drive and ride their motor bikes will never change so why would they expect the death toll to go down , it will increase as more people use the roads .

Doing things without thinking about it first, even for a second.

So far, all the commentators have ignored the fact that 80% of the dead are motorcyclists. Ya think that might have something to do with the high death toll?

Both drowning and traffic deaths are avoidable to a great extent, however they simply don't care here.

When you see bike riders wearing masks but no helmets then you know that there is no hope for this lot.

Suicides are quite high and growing here as well. But at least Thailand doesn't have the #1 title in this category. Well at least not yet. For road accidents including all deaths for the when pass away, this is about 65 deaths per day. My family and I saw one over the Songkran festival. As we were entering one of Promenada Malls entrances outer ring rd, there was a cruiser biker bike that got creamed by a lady at the exit side. Guy was not moving with a twisted neck and blood. Can't figure it out, but my take on it is the guy was probably leaving cutting out on the entry side and the woman ka-blammed him. Either way not pretty and very stupid avoidable as it looked. and that is just one of many of many i have seen up here.

Interestingly its  been hard to find workers for a  few  years but a recent  ad  my Wife placed got 35 replies in  minutes "desperate"  for work, though many were unsuitable for outdoor  work, ie an electrician and many looky likey beauty models with painted  nails, wouldnt last a day here digging etc.

5,673 drownings in Thailand in 2018. I was surprised as most Thai towns are not near the sea. A few swimming lessons would save most of them.

Probably on the conservative side, to be honest. As far as I know, the average daily death toll is between 70 and 80, possibly (probably) even higher.

That is light as are road deaths when you consider that 44, 549 people died of influenza and Pneumonia in Thailand in 2018, and here we all are freaking out over 1,000 deaths since April due to Covid and yes I am aware it is highly contagious, but 90% + people recover with mild symptoms and 0.62% people in the older age groups and those with underlying conditions die.

 

We all going to go somehow, personally, I prefer to just chill and watch things unfold until I will get a decent vaccination, if there is such a thing, Moderna, Pfizer, J&J, maybe herd immunity might have been reached by then ?

Motorcycles have most deaths  on Thai roads . Motor vehicles cause most of the motorcycle accidents . Try and educate the Thai drivers , not an easy task

it is good  with recent increase of max speed limit this will help thai keeping up the Thailand  worlds record for road carnage

The leadership has no clue or interest  in reducing the road carnage. The solution to this carnage has been worked out by most of the "developed countries".
