I see several cafes on jomtien beach starting to offer cannabis products, like cannabis tea. I tried one it was 100 baht for a jar of tea, the taste was somewhat unpleasant. I understand there is no THC component in there, so is there any benefit in drinking it or it is just overpriced herbal flavored water?

There's certainly a benefit to the cafe owner, at 100 baht a cup.  ????

I fondly remember visiting Happy Herb's Pizza on Sisowath Quay in Phnom Penh back in the early 2000's.  Good "happy" pizza and other simple Italian dishes with a side of ganja, which tastes a bit like oregano, in a small sauce bowl to add to your food.  Apparently the restaurant is still there but I'm guessing that you can't get a happy pizza or a side dish of ganja for flavoring any more.

 

One trip in 2003 or 2004 I went to Happy Herb's with a friend.  He ordered bread, spread the ganja from two side dishes on the bread, rolled up the pieces of bread like giant dobbies, and ate them.  A couple of hours later he had to hire two moto dops, one to carry him to his hotel and one to take his rental bike.  He couldn't even remember the name of his hotel so I had to guide them to it.

 

Historically ganja  was used as a herb for flavoring Cambodian food (and probably Thai too).  The first few years of the 2000's you could find bricks of low potency ganja at some of the street markets for that purpose.  I am sure ganja is still easily found in Cambodia but the penalties are simply too high for barangs (Cambodian for farang) if you are caught with it to make it worth while now.  It is legal and just as satisfying to buy and enjoy a good bottle of wine, and since there is no import duty for spirits in Cambodia doing this isn't even very expensive.

They did suggest that a couple of years ago........ ID or passport for entry......but never heard anything since.

why doesn't Thailand just tax and  legalize it and join the 21st century?  maybe a casino as well. this would certainly be a boom to tourism.   the ultimate irony is that the cops turn a blind eye toward certain other vices.

Yes, strange how prostitution, whilst illegal here, is accepted, along with all the domestic human trafficking,  debt enslavement, and mental health issues and physical abuse etc that comes along with it, yet, foreigners handing over their money to a state owned casino, playing a game of chance, is a no no.   Go figure.

Our local shops are selling it 35 Bhat a bottle in Ban Bung Chonburi. Who knows what's in it, old leaf..

Would point out smoking cannabis is also widely accepted here ........ but not if you're a white foreigner.

Different rules for them and us.

 

And YaBaa and YaIce ....... the young locals all use without much problems.

Back around 1977/78, I visited a Catholic missionary priest who lived in a small village in Loei.  One time he was invited to do a blessing ceremony for the working elephants.  Beforehand they fed him some chicken soup ... green chicken soup.  He'd never experienced ganja and was getting quite high during the ceremony.  He was quite ticked off when he found out what was in it.  555

 

A young cook at a restaurant I frequented once made my stir fried vegetables with ganja leaves mixed in.  But he told me he put it in.

I guarantee some of the cannabis places are adding a little extra juice to their drinks.....Anyone looking for a buzz would learn real quick who juiced and who did not.........Without the juice might as well be drinking lemonade.....
