I earn almost $200k, presumably I am exactly the kind of person they want to attract and keep. However, reading the above, it says things like "They must have qualifications of at least a bachelor's degree" - I have no university experience, however I do have over 20 years of actual experience and the title of "VP of Engineering" to match. They also say "They would be nomads in stock trading at companies making at least 50 million dollars per year" - What the heck? You only want people who work in trading companies? I work in an IT company, and how does it even matter how much the company I work for makes if I earn enough? Meanwhile, I can easily move to Ecuador and actually buy land and live there permanently and feel like it's my home as long as I make $800/mo (Rentista visa). I want to feel like this my home Thailand, I do not feel welcome here and I am worried I will need to leave soon as the STV isn't eligible for COVID extensions. I am 38 so I am not eligible for the retirement visa for another 12 years. I am not going to set 600k baht on fire getting an elite visa either, I think the fact I live here and spend 30000k baht a month on rent, hire a cleaner for 3600 baht a month and pay for groceries and e.t.c. should be enough. Sorry...that's not enough. Maybe if you gave blood????
Popular Post kynikoi
Pure fantasy. If they cut their financial requirements by 65% and the expected interest of foreigners by 75% they'd be on the right track. The thing about Thailand is that it can never compromise. Here they lay out some mildly interesting possibilities then link them to fantastical financial obligations. Of course we all know that 10-year visas will be actually 1-year visas renewed 10 times. The requirement to lock a fairly large some of money up in government financial interest and or condos is also a huge stretch. 250k outright will get you citizenship and perhaps a half dozen warm and comfortable countries. Finally, they just don't seem to understand that millionaires don't need this place. Thailand and it's retirement scheme are old news. Everyone at least in the west that might be interested in living here is already doing so or has thoroughly scouted it out. This really leaves only the Chinese which have all sorts of financial restrictions on money leaving their country. The Indians will be into consequential as well the Russians in this. The Indians don't have the money and the Russians don't have the numbers of population. Despite the current regime in power I was really hoping that this announcement was going to mean something for expatriates. I was looking forward to be able to invest the money that I made here in a condo and put it away from my wife. It's just more hopium Many of us will remember the mid-2000s. The condos that came with visas and how the condos were constantly being reassessed downward and funds needed to be topped up against it just for a silly visa. Finally they just drop the whole thing and all those people that own condos could go suck an egg. Edited June 5, 2021 by kynikoi 2

Mansell
When you start reading the details the whole thing becomes laughable. Retirees with quarter a million dollars.....most of us don’t have that kind of money. They must sit around at TAT and whomever comes up with the craziest idea gets a week at a resort for free. They need to sit down with farang and listen to some real solid suggestions to make this a real destination and not a fly by night joke. Do they ever send anybody to other countries to study solutions to their tourist issues? Do they ever think beyond their wallets? Have they taken Covid 19 into their calculations? I doubt it, the reality is it’s going to be around for probably six more years and they need to get on the vaccine band wagon.....and soon before it’s to late. 1
Popular Post ricardofel
Will it never end? I think not. Bad enough they have screwed up covid in Thailand due to incompetence on every level.......and now the TAT scheme. I thought I would end my days in Thailand, but I got smart and left 8 years ago. Best decision I ever made! Got my shots in the US 2 minutes from my house. Ending 2 weeks of quarantine tomorrow. Why did they change it to 2 weeks from 1 week? God knows why? Another bit of incompetence. People who are vaccinated, negative covid test are safer than most anyone in Thailand, but no....they add an extra week to help the hotel industry? The daily incompetence would drive me crazy. 2 more weeks and back to a reasonably sane California. Good luck all you farangs who will hopefully get your shots by 2022. 2

How can you be an (Executive) VP without a degree?! That doesn't even sound possible especially how young you are. I have three friends that are engineers and they've absolutely scrapped for their careers throughout their lives. I'm sure we're not talking electrical, civil, mechanical, computer, software, materials... Maybe sanitation. Popular Post wordchild
this whole plan has been kicked around for the last 12 months or so. As i understand it, its origin was a presentation made by a group of (Thai) economists and MBA types to a committee comprised of leading Thai business men , who had been asked by the Govt to come up with ideas to move the country forward. The pitch was " how does Thailand attract a greater share of the worlds wealthy and more potential wealth creators." there was general agreement ,within that committee, that the ideas presented should be worked on and presented to the government. I know one or two of the people involved and ,in the early stages , some quite radical ideas were discussed. eg the granting of permanent residence (without any hurdles , such as a language test) to those who were deemed to be bringing something significant to Thailand ie their personal wealth or a history of wealth creation. Monaco, Thai style, if you like. However the whole plan seems to have come up against the notorious Thai bureaucracy and what is left is frankly a pretty watered down version. I dont see anything in this that is compelling enough to attract the sort of people they originally targeted. I want to start a company here which would instantly employ 6-8 people but it's risky (49% ownership) and too complicated (Yes I know about FBL) Make it easy with people making $80k+/year & no criminal background to live here without crazy requirements (+ you'd get more nomads paying tax). SIMPLIY things. Make over $X a year? No criminal background? Welcome. Not "your company must be in stocks and make over 50 billion" like what? why? how did a person come up with this specific thing? Even if you take LSD & Shrooms together I don't think you'd be able to come up with something very specific like this. Having a small biz and setting up a company is not a problem amd no risks at alll. Unemployment normally is below 2% , can not get staff. It’s all about protecting thai owned businesses that are 100 years behind. do not for 1 min think having a company means success , until you meet and work with thai workforce., it is out of this world and if you thought TAT statements were silly , wait to work with thai, then you will really be in for a shock 1

Anything comes as quite a surprise, as the lack of talent within the TAT is astonishing. Sometimes, it would appear that the tourism authorities in Burundi, Bangladesh, Haiti, and Afghanistan have more talent and creative juice. It is a start. Hopefully they can get retrograde minds like Prayuth and Phiphat to buy into it. Their minds tend to run backwards, nor forward into a bright future for the nation. Having said that, I was thinking from the beginning of Covid, and the shutdown, that with the huge losses, the mind numbing collapse of the tourism industry, and the lack of revenue, that there was at least a remote chance some humility might be developed amongst these guys. The most important thing for these guys to wrap their heads around, is the fact that Thailand needs the outside world 20X more than the world needs Thailand. Your very right and with the sad demographic picture of Thailand it looks like depopulation will occur soon. The Junta is run by nationalistic backwards looking dinosaurs. Right now Thailand could be attracting the best and brightest from Asia to work here. The collapse of Myanmar was a golden opportunity for Thailand to open its doors to culturally similar hard working educated youth. Instead we have barriers placed up. For decades Thailand could have attracted educated westerners and Asians to help grow its economy. The nationalistic Junta is just too xenophobic and controlling to allow such.
