Thailand reports another daily record of 9,326 COVID-19 cases, 91 more deaths

Thailand on Saturday (July 10) reported 9,326 new COVID-19 cases and 91 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. 
 

● 9,134 new infections

● 192 prison / prison infections
 

Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 326,832 with 2,625 deaths.
 

(Total infections since April 1: 297,969)
 

The news comes as Thailand announced tighter restrictions in the capital Bangkok and nine provinces on Friday in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, including travel curbs, mall closures, a curfew and limits on the size of gatherings.

Thailand set another record high for new COVID cases for the fourth day in a row with the 9,326 reported on Saturday, while also setting a new pandemic record for COVID deaths of 91.

 

Saturday’s results, with the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus spreading throughout Thailand, brought the country ever closer to predictions that it will soon surpass 10,000 new COVID cases and 100 COVID deaths per day.

 

The newly reported COVID cases – 9,134 among the general population and 192 among prisoners – came the day after the Thai government announced plans for a nightly curfew and the closure of some businesses starting Monday in Bangkok and nine other provinces with high COVID case tolls.

 

Saturday’s new case count also means Thailand’s tally of daily COVID cases has now doubled during the past two weeks from levels in the mid 4,000s in late June. Just in the past four days, the country set new COVID case records daily with tallies of starting July 7 of 6,519, 7,058, 9,276 and finally today’s 9,326 new cases.

 

The 91 new COVID deaths reported Saturday blew past the country’s prior daily record of 75 set just two days ago on July 8. Since the start of the pandemic, Thailand has now recorded 326,832 total COVID cases and 2,625 deaths, although some Thai doctors say the real figures, especially for cases, are likely much higher.

 

Because of the rapid rise in new COVID cases in Thailand, the country as of Friday was already reporting record levels of COVID cases hospitalized (74,895), the share of those in critical condition (2,685), and the share of those requiring ventilators to breathe (701). Those numbers are likely to go even higher when updated later today.

Charts looking ugly and reflects an even uglier reality that the virus has overwhelmed Thailand having been left to spread by poor control measures. Lets all hope the new semi lockdowns that are now coming into effect do something to flatten the curve. They should certainly help to do that but my fear is that Thailand is now stuck in a dark tunnel and has a long way to go yet.

The cases keep climbing and the deaths keep mounting, while many have fled the 10 provincial areas that are hit with the heaviest restrictions.  I was just shown another phot someone posted on Facebook this morning of more people standing in the rain starting at 3 am this morning waiting to be tested.  Additionally, this is now taking entire families as it has with my GF's relatives.  The other issue at hand is those locked into the bubble and seal locations are not being cared for.  Stay safe.

Chonburi Public Health Office has just announced they have 359 new cases and three more deaths. Most new cases are in Chonburi City (68), Bang Lamung/Pattaya (63), and Si Racha (118). The total cases so far is now 11,251 with 3,840 remaining in care

Hundreds of people are continuing to camp out in the rain every night at Wat Phra Sri in Bang Khen in the hope that they will be lucky today to get a free covid test. Many people are finding it hard to get tested

Looking at the graphs and charts, this is taking off and I am afraid the doubling of cases and deaths will be in just a few short weeks.  I am sure that this government believes that after 14 days it will decline but then I have other ideas based upon what I am seeing, hearing and watching play out in the surrounding countries.  Stay safe folks and ensure you protect your families.

A soft lockdown likely to do very little in 2 wks. Deaths are going to crack the 100 mark and infections will go well above 10,000 in this period. The two wks will be extended several times I think. Without a hard lockdown I can't see things changing that much. People will still be out and about incorrectly using masks and the spread will continue. Just my opinion.

And I suspect it will be many countries shortly banning it citizens from flying here and  restricting Thais from entering those countries too, not just the UK

Apparently the Government believes it will be in just 14 short days.....sad reality is they have now crated a firestorm as people leave the dark red areas and head to the areas only under surveillance.

I get confused.... if one looks at the plot of new infections for the UK, it appears they are currently in a 4th wave, certainly when one looks at peaks.

The lockdown should have been implemented a long time ago, and while it is going to be unpleasant, if it can reduce these numbers at a time when getting a vaccination is pretty much impossible, it will get my vote. Going to need more than a fortnight of it mind.

Yes you're right those bubble and seals, out of sight out of mind, they were neglected before, so the situation for those still locked inside must be horrendous for them. Lets hope the NGO's manage to give as much help as possible because as far as the government is concerned they are safely locked away and thats it.

The appetite for a hard lockdown doesn't seem to be there, both from the government and the populace.  So if you're right, I guess we will just continue like this for months.  Eventually, rates will come down, wont they?

I think due to testing limits we won't see this going much above this number, they simply do not have the testing capacity and are very unlikely to ramp it up

The healthcare system is already strongly overtaxed and then how many more will suffer in the meantime.  Going back to my "How long is a piece of string" view, I personally do not see the end of this for quite some time and it has just barely started to go upward.  14 days will do jack diddly without vaccinating people, and that will take time and while it does cases and deaths will grow.

All the more likely, I would have thought, given that the rules on travel between the UK and amber list countries like Thailand at the present time are due to be eased from 19 July:-

If the infection rates stabilise due to lack of testing, can the actual death rates be similarly hidden?

If it is working as expected you do see a decline in roughly 2 weeks of the infections . The deaths unfortunate are the last number to rise and also the last number to drop . 1st infected , then sick , very sick ( hospital ) , ICU/ventilator , dead ... it is how it works , so every action taken now does nothing on the number of deaths in 3/4 weeks , but should do in 4/5 weeks . Expect the number of deaths to rise more as the infections this week have risen a lot .

It's a corona virus which have been with us for a long time we just haven't seen one this bad and we haven't been testing for it so intensely the numbers of deaths and hospitalisations will likely fall but the virus and it's descendant mutations will likely just keep cycling around the world.Vaccines and natural immunity will likely build until it's less virulent.UK numbers are rising again but the the deaths and hospitalisations have been said to have declined 8-10 fold which puts it into average flu like numbers there.
