BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has announced his donation of three months’ salary, to help those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, during a meeting at the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) via video conference on 9 July.

At least 15 deputy prime ministers, ministers and deputy ministers in the Cabinet have also expressed a similar intent.

Democrat leader and Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanavisit said the party’s ministers were willing to donate their salaries, to help those affected by the virus, adding that it was just a small gesture.

Deputy Agriculture Minister Thamanat Prompow said the ministers from the Palang Pracharat Party will give up three months’ salary as well.

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob, of the Bhumjaithai Party, also announced that his party would join the cause.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Chuan Leekpai said it is up to the MPs to decide if they want to donate their salaries, as he noted that several MPs have spent a lot more than their salary on helping people during the pandemic.

Yes a very small gesture, now if they donated their earnings for 3 months, now that would be a serious gesture.

More like a big publicity stunt.

It deflects media publicity away from their gross incompetence in dealing with the said pandemic.

What a joke of a country. This is a common Thai routine. The pooyai pretend to care for 5 mins by telling the uneducated public

"we are temporarily stealing from you less"

Brave, my heroes! Thanks… Do whatever it takes to be recognized by the beloved leader

A drop in the ocean.

It takes quite a bit of self-criticism for a politician to admit that he is doing such a <deleted> job that he shouldn't be monetary rewarded.

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I wonder just how serious these ministers and deputy ministers are about following through with their ‘intentions’.

The strong stench of fecal matter from yet another phony PR campaign is wafting through the air, once again.

Whoever came up with this idea is an IDIOT.

Just do your job. And earn your salary.

By giving up their salaries they are revealing that they:

don't need the money

are not paid to perform

can have another excuse for failure

No one in an organization shoots down horrendous ideas like this. So you get in-bred decisions being made in a vacuum devoid of intelligence.

Epic fail.

I wonder how far this amount of money will go amongst the hundreds of thousands put out of work and now have zero income due to decisions made by these people.   Would it even be a tenth of a single baht?

Donate their jobs to someone who are able to do it correctly would be better ............!!!

Are brown envelopes considered 'salary'?

If not, this would be the quintessential definition of 'empty gesture'.

Keep your salary and donate all the money you take in bribe and corruption then we are talking about some serious money.

They should all resign, including the PM! They've screwed this thing up so badly many people are dying and will die from this horrible disease. As well as this was handled the first year, it's been botched horribly since then. 79 deaths the first year and 95 yesterday? Amazing.

His hand did a quick 180 when the cameras left.

I hope the Nobel Award Committee is taking note of this selfless gesture.....

so now every day there are articles, judging by many of them here on forum, about the government's and politician's generosity.

Nothing short of an early, unregulated by the election commission, election campaign.

Now, this government is backed and owned by several multi billion families.

As long as they are getting richer (within the last year their capital increased by 20%), they would be funding this coalition for the second term.

Can’t do that, because then everyone would know how much they really rake in.

And every new panic announcement flushes more money into their pockets.

Panic buying, hording. Prices rising steadily, never seen so few specials/discounts as now.

So if these "good harth" capinet members average salary is 60k bth/ month total giving is about 2.3 million bth! Every new (from million) jobless get 2 bth and 25 satang! I dont know where they going to use all money! Its so nice there is still heartfelt people in government! ( in here is rolling , laughing emoji)

How about if the Thai people who own that 15 percent interest in Sinovac agree to distribute all their proceeds from that investment directly into the bank accounts of poor, displaced, and out of work Thai people?

If all the scum in power donated a third of their nett worth to the people that might have a short term effect.

Not drawing a salary for a few months isn't worth talking about!

what a bunch of <deleted>..they have all stolen so much money as it is...their <deleted> salaries don't matter...they should all resign...and just give the people the damn GOOD vaccines already and stop playing <deleted> games
