This second round of lockdown has seen some of the most heart-breaking consequences of failed government policy, doubly so as all of this could have been avoided.

 

From a country that once praised itself for being able to contain the spread of the virus, we have transitioned to a country that is now struggling to get beds for the sick.

 

Our frontline workers are on their last legs trying to provide care to those that need it while temple crematoriums work overtime to accommodate the dead.

If there was any doubts, they're all gone now. Thailand is nothing but a corrupt third wold country. 

While people are dying at home, desperately waiting for a hospital bed, while others struggle to get vaccinated, what does the cabinet do? Work on a Thai space program!

I never had any doubts, and was argued against when I voiced them in the company of other farangs.

 

Shopping malls, mass transit, apartment blocks, modern military hardware, foreign investment etc. mean nothing when you have a thoroughly corrupt and ineffective judicial system, regular military coups, a dysfunctional government, bloated civil service and little press freedom.

As long as the Thai people (sheeple) continue to allow Soldiers in Parliament they will remain in The Dark Ages.  These Gangsters and the ones above them who pull their strings and issue the actual orders have to be disposed of and the quicker the better.  Nothing; absolutely nothing, will improve or progress until this happens ! 

 

 

It never left 3rd world status, don't let skyscrapers and the development of Phuket obscure the truth. Its a banana republic and always has been.

This opinion piece is spot on! Yesterday I read an excellent option piece in another English language newspaper published in Bangkok.  The writer was Ativan Achakulwisut and was published July 13.  It does a very good job highlighting how heartless this government is.

Third world, maybe that is why I am still here. I wrote the other day that I would leave if I could, the trouble is the rest of the world seems to be degenerating to image the Third World demography.

I too have encountered many disillusioned persons who only have rose coloured glasses and see no wrong in Thailand !

But the PM and his ministers have the best uniforms...and lots of them for different occasions.

Tried to do everything on the cheap now all the money's been spent or squirreled away on essential army toys and Swiss accounts the covid chickens have nowhere to roost.

They get killed and imprisoned for fighting the military. Ready a history book. Read a newspaper.

Which great nation has changed without the loss of life? Great nations are built on the blood and tears of the people who envisioned a better country, a brighter future. People who fought for what they believed was right.

Agreed. All wind and water. Incompetent so called 'leaders'. Always has been and probably always will be a third world country. Defined now as developing... Developing into what, one asks... A basket case, perhaps?

Always remember what it is in Thailand that keeps the corrupt in power. Something to do with the so-called golden triangle.

 

I've been is solidly third world nations and I've lived here 14 years. 
Most of Thailand is third world with a veneer of "developing" to paint some lipstick on it.
