What a crock of <<deleted>>. Even at full capacity, which is doubtful, 40% of 15 million is just 6 million doses per month. This is well short of the touted 10 million doses per month they have been bragging about. Little wonder they are still having to import the Sinocrap.

AZ pulled the same trick over in Europe after contract was signed with the EU,

they renegaded their delivery schedule and made excuses for further delay, typical British MO

soon after came the bad news about AZ and nobody wanted them in Europe, so plenty of excess to be shipped over SE Asia

and then this LOL

Others have said this but it's incorrect, I will explain.

AstraZeneca needs Indias production capacity, they have long been the worlds manufacturing powerhouse for vaccines.

So AstraZeneca needs India, it doesn't need Thailand. Big difference.

India = Huge production and Market

Thailand = also ran in comparison.

I thought it was made in Thailand.

My mistake also. You wonder where it does come from?! Patagonia, Estonia, Botswana   ...  ????

One long season then, 12 months of the year. Get everyone vaccinated is the key.

It might help, we all hope it does. But it’s not possible for one, and two it probably would not even work like you think even if we did it.

For example, we have a vaccine, yet Thailand infections are spiking. If I would have told you that months ago you would call me crazy.

It is but Thailand is the production company for all of ASEAN.  You want to here people yell. Just imagine if they hold up deliveries to Indonesia or Phil.

This is PPP on AZ mgmt.  Hate to say it but it takes pressure off the gov't as they have someone else to blame.

as it was never meant for countries who could afford to pay the commercial cost being asked by other companies

I don't think that's correct.  Astra Zeneca stated a long time back that its product will be supplied on a 'not for profit' basis to every country that places an order, regardless of that country's wealth.  They will continue to do for as long as they consider the situation is a Pandemic and have reserved the right to keep the situation under review. The AZ product is, for example, supplied to the UK government at the 'not for profit' price.

The issue of countries that can't afford to buy vaccines is being dealt with by schemes like COVAX and others.

This is an unholy mess.  AZ came up with a good idea to do local production in SE Asia, if indeed they came up with the idea themselves, but they shot themselves in the foot but giving the whole production to one small company with no experience or track record in vaccine production. A back up factory in Thailand and/or elsewhere was the obvious thing to do, if they wanted to proceed with such a partner.

Now Thailand is gong to have to severly curtail or ban exports.  So there is not much point in AZ trying to bargain to cut the Thai orders.  The same thing happened to them in India.  There is nothing they can do against a sovereign power. In the EU they are being sued for non-delivery.

part of the vaccine is shipped in to Thailand from Europe and the UK if this ceases because Thailand decides to go it alone the vaccine would be deemed useless Thailand cannot be compered to INDIA as that country is one of the biggest producers in the world when it comes to manufacturing all types of medication . the other concern would be if Thailand insists on using mixed vaccines as reported , yesterday i read a statement released by WHO stating that vaccinating an individual with two types of vaccine should be avoided at all costs

Sinovac is better than nothing if you can't get anything else!

I’m at a loss to understand this mess. If AZ is asking to “extend the timeline to deliver 61 million doses to Thailand” what was the original timeline?  If SBS is currently producing 10 million doses/mo and 40% of that production stays in Thailand, then at 4 million doses produced per month for Thailand, its overall commitment would take 15 months to complete and now they want 5 additional months to deliver- 20 months total?

Probably the darkest day so far in the local battle with COVID...

about to top 10,000 daily cases, while some health officials say that figure is really 4X.

about to top 100 deaths, 98 today, with two foreigners

record number in ICU: 3,276, record number on ventilators: 839

and now, vaccine supply goes poof

No amulet precious enough is gonna get us out of this mess.

still acceptable metrics,

European countries with similar sizes to Thailand, we had 7,000 in ICUs and 500-900 deaths per day and that was probably under-reported

Thailand is going to face the same metrics by the end of August,

But they have neither the ICUs nor the staff (never mind vaccinated staff) to cope ... there is the potential for an Indian type calamity ...

Perhaps, but it could force you into a multi brand vaccination cocktail.  Or worse, it could preclude you from getting one of the better vaccines, if and when they become available.

If and when is the thing that is making me take what is available now, from what I have read no Vaccine protects you 100%.

neither did we in Europe, medical staff went through that same cahos, and it worked eventually

with 10,000 capacity in ICUs, silly lockdowns wouldn't be necessary and it would be business as usual with the virus spreading naturally

of course DELTA is putting a new pressure on those ICUs capacity

Well, Italy did and that was quite a disaster ... other countries got their acts together faster and managed, in part because they had the resources ... and they are far greater than Thailand's unfortunately.

Each one of the cases we are seeing recorded today has already infected many others, the growth is exponential, and numbers tend to lag by a couple of weeks ...

Fingers crossed it turns out better than it's shaping up ...

Italy situation was far from perfect, but to be honest they were at par with the rest of Europe in terms of cahos, only insignificantly worse

of course, the population doesn't see it that way, and everyone in Europe is mad somehow with their government slow actions
